She was so lovely. He couldn't stand it. The way her hair fell on to the book she was reading for fun was intoxicating. The fact that the book was as thick as his hand was wide was so typical of this bushy brown haired beauty. It was almost impossible for him to study with her around being so attractive. He knew that if he admitted it to anyone he'd probably be laughed out of Hogwarts. After all, she had Krum. Who would choose an ordinary wizard over a famous Quiddich player? She glanced up at him and he pretended to read his copy of The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 6. He wondered if she saw right through him.
"Are you still working on that assignment?" she asked almost innocently.
"Almost." he grumbled.
She glanced over his shoulder. "You got those two reactions mixed up," she calmly pointed out.
He breathed a small sigh. "Thanks, Hermione."
"Are you okay?" she looked at him with some concern. He never wanted her to be concerned about anything.
"Fine," he replied. "Why?"
"You look, oh, a little. ." she looked away from him, "out of it. That's all." She returned back to her book and left him to finish his homework.
Five minutes later, he slammed his book shut. He couldn't take being this close to her and having her not know how he feels. "Hermione?" he asked determinedly.
She looked up from the large book. "Yes?"
"Will you marry me?"
"Are you insane!?" He felt his stomach drop into his shoes. "We're only sixteen, for crying out loud!" He looked intensely into her eyes. They shone with anger. He looked away.
"Well, I didn't mean right now, or even this year," he said quickly. "I just can't stand being with you everyday and not being able to hold you and kiss you. I am in love with you, and I don't want a future with out you."
"If this is some kind of joke. . ."
"It's not." He risked looking into her eyes again. "I have never been more serious in my life. I want to be with you forever." Her eyes were warmer and showed some timidness.
"I guess we could go out and see what happens." she said tentatively. He grinned and, in his excitement, he kissed her.
