Stars.
Lying on his back, looking upwards at the sky, Yugi was quiet. His hands were behind his head, separating his head from the soft grass beneath him. His gentle, violet-ruby eyes were half-closed, a thoughtful look on his face. He lifted his right hand and softly began to count the stars he saw.
"One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve…"
A gentle, midnight breeze blew by, ruffling his hair and sweatshirt he was in. The park he was in was deserted. The only sounds were the running water of the fountain and his counting.
"…Thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty, twenty-one…"
A few cherry blossom petals hovered in the air, floating down with grace to the dew-covered grass. Peace, serenity, tranquility.
"…Twenty-two, twenty-three, twenty-hour, twenty-five, twenty-six…"
With every star Yugi counted, he felt two things happen to him: first a pain that continued to tear itself inside his heart. For every star he counted came back a memory; a memory of him.
"…Twenty-seven, twenty-eight, twenty-nine…"
Yet, with every memory, the wound would heal itself filling him with warmth. Even though he was gone…no longer by his side constantly, he still had those memories…so really…was he really gone?
"..Thirty…thirty-one…"
So…why even try counting the stars? There were so many, he wouldn't be able to keep track. Just like with his memories. A smile crossed his face, a soft chuckle escaping his lips. He knew the stars would always be there…the same with his memories…
There was no need to count.
He would never run out of them.
