Ok. So this is for all you really confused people. This is stuff that happens later to Joey and Mai. Mai revolts against Joey in a later season, so this is their duel. The loser loses their soul. (It's easy to tell that it's Joey in this picture) So this is just a romantic perspective on it.

The battle of the centaury has begun. The duelists had so many emotions and a friendship that they would never thought would end. One, a well-known duelist with a street attitude, looked as though he had lost before the battle had started The other, an also well known female duelist with fire in her eyes, looked like she was ready at any point of the day. Two duelists and the destiny that would bind their hearts to one another till the end of time.

Now after the war had finally finished, they saw who would fall and who would stay standing. It wasn't who should have though, as the female duelist Mai Valentine had found out. She had made a grave mistake.

"I'm glad you finally saw the light," he fell. Mai ran.

~Hold onto me, love. You know I can't stay long. All I want to say was I love you and I'm not afraid~

"JOEY!" She called his name from the darkness, and he heard. It was too late though. He was lost in the obscurity.

~Can you hear me? Can you feel me in your arms?~

She could him, tears streaming down her cheeks. Mai's heart leapt a hundred yards, saying over and over, 'He can't leave me. He can't leave me.'

"M-Mai..." his breath was slowing, "I-I'm sorry to leave you so soon."

"Don't say that Joey. You'll be ok."

~Holding my last breath, safe inside myself. Are all my thought on you. Sweet ruptured light it ends here tonight~

Mai's tears swelled larger. Joey's soul drifted farther and farther away from her. Joey began to tease up, he knew that if Mai held him any longer, she'd suffer his same fate: a sacrifice to an underwater god of mass proportion. He already guessed that him mind would be targeted, after all, he is one of the people standing in Dartz's way. Dartz, his man rival sent on complete destruction of the world. He could just see his smirking face watching him struggle over losing his own essence. Joey's fate didn't bother him; just Mai's was on his mind.

~I'll miss the winter, a world of fragile things. Look for me in the white frost, hiding in a hallow tree~

One last hope. One last prayer entered Joey's mind. It was a snow-covered valley, sparking with white speaks of shimmering glitter. Joey was sitting with Mai, laughing, smiling, and talking, unlike their present situation. That confirmed him that it was no doubt that he would lose the sensation of Mai's warm touch. He was going to be a sacrifice...a sacrifice.

"I need to say goodbye." She looked into his eyes, but saw nothing more then a blond-brown blob. Her tears wouldn't allow her to see him with her, one final time.

Joey felt her warm tears touch his cold face. They dripped into his mouth. It was a sweet, sorrowful taste.

~I know you hear me. I can taste it in your tears~

With the last of his strength, Joey pushed Mai out of the ring of blue fire that was slowly sucking his soul away. Mai screamed. There was no more she could do for him.

~Closing your eyes to disappear. You pray your dreams will leave you hear. But still you wait you know the truth. No one's there~

JOEY!" Her voice echoed in the night air. His body fell, fatigued and soulless. All life that ever entered the shell was gone away, never to return.

~Say goodnight. Don't be afraid. Calling me, calling me as you fade tonight~

Mai caught his body as it fell into her arms. He taught her something important: true love must make sacrifices.

~Holding my last breath, safe inside myself. Are all my thought on you. Sweet ruptured light, it ends here tonight~
