The Darkness Inside of Her
By: dragonfly-rising
Warm brown eyes regarded the group of powerful young women that trained against each other in the sun lit yard of the dojo. They took in every nuance of each attack, catalogued every response. He was very interested to find he respected these Sailor Senshi more and more as he watched them give their all in the practice.
~ They must be formidable opponents if this is how they train ~ He thought to himself.
A slight breeze ruffled his shiny black hair that lay straight down his back. Beside him a young woman stood, her eyes focused on the group below. He looked over at her pleased to see that she had a respectful smile on her face.
"So these are the ones?" She asked curiously.
"The ones grandfather sent us after? I believe so." He replied.
"I don't get it. Aren't they good? I can sense them from here Jon, there is nothing evil in any of them." She insisted.
He returned his attention back to the young women. It was true his sister was a much better judge of a spirit's characters then he but he could not deny that they were the only ones here that fit his grandfather's description. The words the old medicine man had used to describe them floated into his mind.
~ A horse of shadowed joy for life and death ~ Jon's eyes danced to the blonde one with pigtails.
~ A crow of fiery power ~ now he looked at the black haired one.
~ An otter full of strength ~ the other blonde became his new focus.
~ A swan surrounded by the depths of deep water ~ the blue haired one.
~ A puma of deadly lightening ~ the brown haired one.
There could be no others like these young women, he was sure they were the ones.
"Do we go after them now?" His sister, Sheana asked.
"No not yet...the time is not right. Grandfather said that something would happen soon. That shadow warriors would come to confront the horse and the horse would become changed. I do not think it has happened as of yet." Jon replied.
"This isn't right Jon...we should be helping her not waiting for her to become something worse. This should never have been placed in our hands, this is not what we do." Sheana said with anger.
"We don't know everything Sheana you know that. We can't just step over there and say "Hey you are about to turn into something unnatural so could you please stop and listen to us." How would you react to that?" He snapped.
"I would kill you but that is me Jon. She wouldn't do such a thing. Can you not feel how large her capacity for love is?" Sheana argued.
"Sheana we have been over this a thousand times. We can't interfere until the shadow warriors change her. That is what grandfather said to wait for and we WILL wait like we were told to do. If we do anything it could rupture the balance and that is what we are here to protect not one person." Jon said with finality.
"You never cared about the balance Jon, you know we are wrong to wait" Sheana stated before turning and leaving the tree they had been perched in.
Jon looked at the women again with a heavy heart. He knew his sister was right but he was bound by his grandfather to act in his absence. He could not just allow his personal feelings to interfere with his duty. There was no place for second-guessing in this. He hadn't flown this far from home just to fail in his mission.
He stayed in the tree for a very long time arguing with himself. The young women finished their training and left the grassy area laughing and talking to each other with high spirits. One young woman, the blonde with pigtails, paused outside of the dojo's doors and looked back in his direction. He felt his heart speed up, hoping she could not sense his presence. She shrugged to herself after a moment and then went inside. Jon waited a few minutes longer before jumping down from the tree and leaving the area. His mind buzzed with worry over her having known he was there.
