The Darkness Inside of Her
By: dragonfly-rising
Within the rolling nothingness of the Spirit Realm a once unaware entity reacted to the disruption in the earth's energies by ever so slowly awakening from its eternal slumber. It could not be said that the entity had been waiting for such a thing to happen, in fact it had not been aware in so many centuries that it no longer cared what transpired in the Mortal Realm. What ultimately drew its attention from its peaceful sleep were the emotions that surged with the new power that battered the Spirit Realm with such force. The internal struggle, the anguish, and other such powerful impressions raged into the Spirit Realm demanding attention be paid to it.
~ A long time since such has touched me ~ was the first coherent thought that it had.
It stretched as only a spirit can intrigued that something from the Mortal Realm could bring about such a response from it. It seemed there had been another disturbance in the Spirit Realm very long ago, or perhaps it had been merely yesterday, time was inconstant in the realm it existed in. It tried to concentrate, to remember the other time of notice but the memory escaped him only teasing him with a glimpse of something silver, perhaps a soul that had stood out among the many that existed here. As it became more aware it struggled to recapture its memories of such things, knowing them to be important. After some time it recalled it had once been bound to the earth, the Mortal Realm, a wandering spirit of great power. It did not know how it had come into this power nor could it think of what had happened to cause it to exist in the Spirit Realm itself. The absence of such things in its mind did not cause it to fret. It knew, now that it had become aware, that the memories would return. All it had was time. All it wanted was to find what had awoken it.
The spirit settled into an attitude of waiting, straining its senses for the one that had called to it so strongly.

Sheana felt the awakening of the dark soul within the Spirit Realm as an intense shudder that left her breathless.
"What is it?!" Jon exclaimed in concern beside her.
Sheana looked at her brother across the arcade table wondering why he could not feel what she had. She knew he was not as in tune with the spirits, but it was inconceivable to her that he could not have felt what had run through her.
"Something very dark has woken from its sleep Jon. Something awful." Sheana told him, knowing she had paled considerably.
"What do you mean?" Jon asked more specifically, his expression turning serious.
"I don't know exactly Jon...I just can feel it. Something in this world has captured the attention of an ancient spirit, a powerful one. I can't even say what it is; I just know this is only the beginning. It won't go back to sleep on its own, its very interested in the Mortal Realm now." Sheana tried to explain further.
"Will it be able to come here?" Jon questioned.
Sheana nodded slowly, "With enough time it will come here...for what purpose I don't know".
Jon frowned, "This is bad. Grandfather never mentioned anything about the Spirit Realm. Why didn't he warn us?"
Sheana sighed, "He did Jon...just without being specific about it. It has to be that girl, she did something that we didn't feel, something that caught its attention."
Now Jon scowled, "Damn her...why couldn't she just leave well enough alone!"
"She didn't know Jon. Even with my warning how could she have possibly know that one of those would have noticed her." Sheana fired back immediately without thinking.
"Even with your warning?" Jon asked ominously.
Sheana scowled now, regretting her hasty words "She deserved to be warned Jon. I wasn't as specific as I should have been if that soothes your pride."
"No it doesn't Sheana. This has nothing to do with my pride and everything to do with you being a sentimental fool! You always do this! You get your heart involved and then I have to clean up after you. Now she knows at least you are here and that doesn't give us an advantage!" Jon hissed at her angrily.
"I won't go against what I believe is right you idiot. If you had been the one she would be dead. You don't understand women and you sure don't understand what it means to be a Healer!" She hissed back just as angry.
"I wouldn't have gone in the first place Sheana...don't you understand SHE is dangerous!" Jon flared.
Jon rose from the table and stalked off leaving an unrepentant Sheana to pay for their drinks. After Sheana had done so and walked out into the sunlight she couldn't help but regret that she had not told the blonde girl more. Her warning had been vague purposely in a vain attempt to protect her and her brother. It had been a waste of time. Another shudder swept through her.
~Is this just the beginning? ~ She wondered to herself worriedly.
