Prologue

I've known Pippin for as long as I can remember. As my best friend, he has stuck by my side through many small adventures. He even led me to the lass that I am spending the rest of my life with.

But let me start at the beginning. My father, Peregrin Took, came home after the War of the Ring, and set things straight here in the green Shire. In 1427, he married my estimable mother, Diamond of Long Cleeve, and three years later, I was born.

I was named after Faramir of Gondor, Steward of Gondor, whom my father had saved from death by fire during the War of the Ring. They had become friends while Peregrin had served in the Gondorian army, and are still friends now.

My best friend was born in 1426, the son of Samwise Gamgee and Rosie Cotton. He has many siblings, including Goldilocks Gamgee, my adored wife. The others are named Elanor, Frodo, Rose, Merry, Hamfast, Daisy, Primrose, Bilbo, Ruby, Robin, and Tom. I should like to wonder how Rosie managed it...

Goldilocks was born a year after my birth, and we too grew up together, though never as close as Pippin and I, what with her being a lass and all. We lads didn't quite like playing with the girls, for they preferred more dolls and less mud. Pippin's older brother, Merry, was also part of our little band, but we often made him go away, as he liked to be in charge.

I had read in Mister Gamgee's Red Book that Frodo was named after Frodo the Nine-Fingered, one of my favorite characters in the story. I always asked, and still ask, whether the story was true or not, and Mister Gamgee always answers, "Perhaps, Faramir my boy, perhaps."

The story of my own that I would like to tell you takes place when I was a mere thirty, not even yet reached adulthood. My dear friend Pippin was thirty-one, and Goldilocks was twenty-nine...

[A/N: Well, here it is. The incredibly short prologue/introduction/thingy for my little work-in-progress called "The Many Adventures of Faramir Took," featuring the dear little son of Peregrin Took and Diamond of Long Cleeve. I will eventually incorporate his romance with Goldilocks Gamgee, but I have no idea how just yet.
