Chapter 1: TJ and Gretchen
TJ rifled through the papers on his desk angrily. Where was it? It has to be here somewhere.
A shadow appeared at his door. It was the shape of a woman. She stepped into the light.
"Ahh, Gretchen Grundler." TJ said with a slight growl. "What a surprise."
"A surprise?" she asked in a whispery voice. "It shouldn't be a surprise. I told your secretary I was coming."
"Well it just so happens, that I was looking for my schedule when you walked in. What can I do for you?" he asked. "Nothing," she tilted her head. "Can't a person drop by to visit an old friend?" TJ looked her up and down. She had grown her hair out, and switched to contacts. She was wearing a red dress and fur around her neck. "You've changed a lot Gretchen." He said incredulously.
"Do you like it?" she asked.
"No, not really. I miss the old, smart, reliable Gretchen."
"The nerdy Gretchen," she said tucking her chin to her neck.
"No," said TJ, taking both of her hands in his. "The Gretchen that was my friend."
She pulled her hands away. "We're not on the playground anymore TJ Detwieller. We're out in the real world."
And with those last words, she swished out of his office.
