Stalker

Something's not right. Something's not right at all.

These were TJ's thoughts as he stared at the closed door. It still hadn't sunk in yet.

That was one of my best friends, Gretchen Grundler. The Genius. We always thought she was destined for great things, even more than Vince. And now...

He swallowed hard.

And now... she was wasted. I'm not going to let this rest.

He grabbed his trenchcoat and hat, and pushed open the door. He looked both ways in the narrow hallway. He spotted her just turning the corner. He took a quick step. It made a clap on the tile that echoed throughout the hallway.

Stupid shoes.

He stepped lightly following her at shadow distance. She opened the door to the building and walked openly out into the street.

One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Okay, I should be safe now.

TJ followed her outside. Black and purple spotted blocked out his vision. He rubbed his eyes discreetly. Working in a dark office had its downside.

He turned up his collar to hide his face even more, and continued his stalking.

He followed her across the city, through parks, slums, subways, and even bathrooms.

This Dame can walk.

He gazed unhappily down at his shoes, now covered in black mud from tromping through a small wetland.

It's almost like she knows I'm following her. Like she's trying to lead me off course. Heck, for all I know, she could know I'm following her. Gretchen IS a Genius.

Even if she IS wasted.

A small evil voice in head spoke out. A shake of his head cleared it up. The problem with those small voices is that they are usually right.

Finally, Gretchen reached her final destination. It was a tall building, maybe three or four stories high. It was a building that you wouldn't take a second glance at, either the person (or people) that lived there were really plain, or...

...have something to hide.

Coming soon...CHAPTER 3: GRETCHENS THE CRIMINALS
