Chapter Four :: Confession

Mai leaned against the window of the café, swinging her house keys roudn her middle finger and then grabbing them tight and putting her arm down by her side. She sighed, how could he do this to her? Again? She slipped her keys into her bag and folded her arms, she'd give him five mroe minutes then she was going!
Five minutes later Joey hadn't turned up and Mai was annoyed now. The onyl thing that had changed was that the rain had stopped. She leant up off the window and opened her bag, pulling out her mobile. She pressed some buttons and then put it back to her ear. "Hello? . . . Yeah, a cab . . . Umm . . . Mainstreet, you got that? . . . Valentine, Mai . . . Ok, thanks." Then she hung up and put it back into her bag.
She looked at her watch, eleven o'clock exactly. She then heard someone calling her name. "Mai! MAI!" They called as she turned round with a puzzled look, only to see a blonde-haired boy runnign towards her, he stopped by her and held his knees, panting.
"Joey . . ." She spat, turning away. He grabbed her arm.
"Mai, i'm so sorry it's-"
Mai pulled her arm back and he was forced to let go. "Don't give me your crap, i don't care anymore Joey!"
Joey frowned, "But Mai . . . I, i'm sorry." He said making puppy dog eyes.
Mai folded her arms and narrowed her eyes. "Joey, you do this all the time, out of five dates, none have been perfect! Now, if you don't mind, this date is over, I've got a cab coming."
Joey sighed, "Mai, what's up? i said i'm sorry!"
"All men say their sorry Joey." She said, leaning back against the window.
Joey really didn't know what to say, could he tell ehr the truth? She would go mental, he couldn't. So he just nodded and turned around. "I get it," He sighed, "Bye then Mai . . ."
Mai ignored him, not even turning her hyead to see if he had gone. She just looked straight ahead at some poorly done graffiti on the oppisette wall. Then she heard a speeding car, which stopped and skidded to the cerb near her. The window wound down to re-veal an oldish man. "Mai Valentine?" He asked.
She nodded and he pointed to the back door and wound the window up again. Without another look at Joey she opened the dor and climbed in, slamming it behind her.

"Is she awake yet Seto?" Mokuba asked, he was standing in his PJ's, staring at Seto, who was sat waiting in a chair outside the room where Isis was.
"No, arn't you meant to be in bed right now?" Seto asked, leaning to one side.
"Well, i wanted to see if she's OK." He said.
"She'll be fine Mokuba . . ." Seto sighed, rolling his eyes.
"Are you sure?"
"Mokuba, i'm sure," Kaiba said, "Now move it and get to bed!"
Mokuba nodded and sighed. He walked away slowely, lookign back, "'Night Seto." He said as he disapeared round a corner.
Kaiba didn't answer he just continued to stare at the wall. What the hell had happened to her? Something wasn't right, something was very wrong . . .

Isis woke up and gasped, sitting up right. Then she blinked and raised an eyebrow, This wasn't Mai's house . . . She took in her surroundings, She was lying in a four-poster bed, with white silk sheets and around her the room was decorated with a lime colour and too one side, near a large open window was a set of drawers and a cupboard, to another was a wide-screen TV and sterio, next to her was a bedside table and a mirror. Where was she?
Then she looked down at herself. The blood from her nose had gone, it just stang a little. All of the blood was gone, she only had a small bandage round her arm. She looked at it, she could see bloodstains throught it but it didn't hurt anymore. She wasn't wearing the same dress, but she felt the note from Kaiba by her side, it must have slipped out of her pocket while she slept . . .
She was about to get up when there was akncok at the door. She looked at it and then whispered, "Uh. . . Come in?" and it opened slightly, slowely, to reveal Kaiba. "Kaiba?" she gasped.
He nodded, eyeing her. She looked different already. He didn't move for a second, all he could feel was that feeling again, the feeling that he could do anything, the feeling of true happiness. Then he shook his head and let the door close on it's own.
Isis looked up at him, holding the note firmly in his hand. He came to sit on the bed, near her and then they just looked at each other, for what seemed like hours, but only minutes had passed. "How do you feel?" Kaiba asked eventually.
"A bit dizzy, and shocked . . . How did you find me?" She asked.
"I was driving by, saw you, you were bleeding, you needed help." He said, leaning further towards her slowely and nervously.
"Oh . . . Well, thank-yuo," She said, "So . . . What now?"
"Now, if you wouldn't mind, you tell me what happened to you?" He said in a slight;y warning tone. Isis looked down, ashamed, hwo could she say anything? She couldn't . . .
"My father," She said, and she didn't know why. She was telling herself not too, and it was just coming out. "My father . . .He beat me up, he does it alot . . ." She said, trying not to cry and look stupid in front of him.
Kaiba didn't say anything for a second. "Your father did this to you?" he asked, now he had made his mind up that all father's were assholes.
Isis looked down more, staring at the sheets. "I don't know why . . . He never loved me." Then she coudln't help but start crying, and she knew Kaiba would think she was being stupid.
Kaiba put out his hand and touched hers. She sniffed and looked up. He held it tightly as they gazed at one another. He had no idea why he was doing it, he just did it . . . Then he suddenly let it go and stood up, nearly banging his head off the top of the bed. "We nned to call the police." He said, in a serious tone.
"NO!" Isis cried, swinign the blankets off of her. She leapt up and looked at him. "No, you can't. Please don't-"
"We have too, he could do it again."
"Don't call the police on him Seto, trust me!" She said and Kaiba nearly gasped, no-one called him Seto, only Mokuiba ever did. And how was he meant to trust her? he'd only known her about two seconds? But, he knew, somehow that he could . . .
"OK," He said, looking at her. "But you have to stay here, not in this room but . . . You can't go back home otherwise-"
"I know." She said, sitting back on the edge of the bed. "Thank-you . . ."
Kiaba nodded, he didn't want to stay with her, it was something about her, it made him feel differently. "Well . . . There's cloths in that cupboard, you can come out whenever you like, i'll be in the hall until two a.m, OK?"
Isis nodded. She was about to say thanks again but he turned swiftly and walked out, closing the door behind him, without saying goodbye. Why had he wanted to leave so badly? What had she done? She sighed and wrapped her arms round her body, it was cold for a mansion . . . and what would she do now? She was alone with someone she didn't really know in a strange place, the onyl person she had to go back to was her father . . . Or Mai . . .
*-*-*
Mai opened the cab's door and climbed out, slamming it shut behind him. She waited as the driver wound down his window and looked at her. "$4 miss Valentine" he snorted.
Mai raised an eyebrow and dug into her bag to find her purse. She pulled out some coins and dropped them into his open hand. He took them and smiled at her. "Anything else you wanna' give me?" He asked, eyeing her.
"Oh my God!" She cried, abckign away. "Piss off you pervert!"
He laughed and began to wind his window up. "Look foreword to seeing you again!" he cried as his engine started and he drove off, speeding round a corner. Mai watched him leave then turned roudn to her front door and took her keys out from her bag. She went toi put it in the lock and stopped.
"What the hell . . .?" She asked, their was blood on her door, a handprint, and some on the doorbell. She looked at it and then run her finger down it, it was dry. She was nerovus now, what the hell was going on?
