**hey everybody-I said I'd try to get this chapter up within the next couple of days, so here it is as promised-I really like this chapter, though it is kind of slow....I've had some people say the story is getting too 'romancy' and to slow it down, but that's exactly what I'm going for-if anyone thinks I should slow it down or anything, review, or drop me an emailand let me know what you think. thx :D**
Ch. 6
Sarah ran as fast as she could away from the Great Hall. When she got to the Entrance Hall, she stopped, realizing she didn't know where anything was or where to go. Just as she was contemplating what to do next, she heard a voice behind her, calling her name.
Draco emerged from the side corridor and stopped when he saw Sarah. Although her tears had stopped, a fresh wave of them overcame her when she saw Draco, and she sank to the floor. Draco ran over to her and took her into his arms. Picking her up gently, he carried her up the stairs (surprised at how light she was). He automatically knew where their dormitory was, and when he reached it, the portrait swung open without a password. Upon entering, he lay Sarah down on the large couch and turned to shut the door. When he turned back to her, she was sitting up, wiping away the last stray tears. She smiled up at him, and he sat down next to her on the couch.
"Thanks," she said quietly. "I didn't think this would turn into such a big thing."
"Don't even think about it anymore. Pott- Harry will get over it eventually." He kissed the top of her head, and they both smiled. After a few moments, Sarah looked down at her watch and grinned sheepishly.
"What is it?" Draco asked her.
"Um, I'm kinda hungry," she said, then laughed. "I guess I made you miss dinner too, huh?"
"No problem," replied Draco. "I can show you where the kitchens are if you'd like."
"Sure, sounds great," said Sarah. "Think while we're out we could look around a little bit too?"
"Of course," smiled Draco. "I'll give you your own personal tour." And with that, he pulled Sarah up off the couch and led her out of the portrait hole.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------
As Draco led Sarah through the numerous corridors, he pointed out to her all the classrooms and told her who all the portraits were of. After about an hour, they finally reached the kitchens.
"You're going to like this one," Draco told her as they approached the picture of the bowl of fruit. He tickled the pear, and when it giggled, Sarah burst into a fit of laughter.
"Oh..my..God!" she choked. "That's..hysterical!" This of course caused Draco to start laughing, and when the door swung open, all the house elves in the kitchen stopped to stare at the two laughing teens outside. Once Sarah and Draco had regained their composure, they stepped inside.
"What would you like?" asked Draco. "You can get just about anything here."
Sarah thought for a moment, making a mental list of all her favorite foods. Finally, she settled on one. A house elf came scurrying over, waiting eagerly for something to do.
"Okay," she said, "I'll have a hamburger, soy, mind you," she noted to the elf. (A/N: yes, she's a vegetarian-seeing as I really am one, I though it fitting to make myself one in the story as well :) "And I'll have some coke with it, thanks."
The house elf nodded then turned to Draco. "What can Bitsy get for Mister Draco?" it squeaked.
"Er, I'll have the same as her please," replied Draco, as he was never one to really make conversation with a house elf. They were still servants in his mind, after all. Bitsy shook her head, then scurried away, only to come back a minute later with their food. Sarah thanked the elf, then took the food and turned to Draco.
"Bringing this back to our room?" she gestured. He nodded, and led the way out of the kitchens.
Sarah and Draco walked back to their dorm in silence, and when they finally got to the portrait, Draco muttered the password, "Sugarquill,' (thought up by Dumbledore, of course) and the door swung open. As he shut it behind them, Sarah made her way over to the spacious couch with their food. Taking up her burger, she took a bite, and much to her delight, it tasted just like her favorite ones back home. She motioned for Draco to join her on the couch, and when he did, she handed him his food, only to realize that not only were hamburgers and soda muggle foods, they were American muggle foods, meaning he had certainly never tried either.
"Just try a bite," she said to him. "I know you'll like it." He did, and to Sarah's great surprise, Draco immediately wolfed down the rest of the burger in a few huge gulps, then moved on to his soda. He eventually realized she was staring so he swallowed rather quickly.
"What?" he asked, wiping his mouth on the back of his hand, not realizing just how 'un-Malfoyish' he was being.
"Nothing," she replied, "It's just that I've never seen anyone inhale a burger like that." Truth be told, she had done it many times herself, but he needn't know that. They both laughed then, and finished off the rest off their dinner. Once everything was gone, and Sarah had promised to introduce Draco to more American foods, she yawned and glanced at her watch.
"Ugh, it's only ten o'clock," she said. Sarah wasn't one to go to bed early, even if she had to get up early the next morning. "I think I'll read for a little while," she sighed.
"Are you sure?" asked Draco. "Maybe you should rest up for your first day at Hogwarts tomorrow."
"No, I won't be able to sleep now anyway, it's too early." She yawned again, and when he raised an eyebrow at her, she asked him, "Are you going to bed now?"
He got up and stretched, replying, "No, I'll stay up a little more with you." It wasn't in a Malfoy's nature to go to bed late, but he did it for her.
Sarah smiled, then got up and went to her room. All of their things had already been brought up, and she came back a minute later with a book. She settled herself back on the couch and opened her book, immediately losing herself in it.
Draco smiled when he saw her with the book. 'She's just like Granger,' he thought, 'But in a good way.' He made himself comfortable in a big armchair and closed his eyes.
Somewhere in the next few hours, Draco fell asleep, and when he finally awoke, it was well past midnight. Glancing over at Sarah, he could just make her out on the couch in the moonlight. She had fallen asleep, the book still open in her lap. Walking over to the couch, Draco picked her up, careful not to wake her. He carried her to her room and placed her on the bed, covering her with a blanket. Closing her book, he placed it on the nightstand and backed quietly out of the room. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
