A/N: Thanks to the..one...person who reviewed this story...cough, Thanks Black Knight 03, and yes I agree with you, I have had a lack of reviews for this story. But I do plan to continue, no matter what you guys think about it. So there! Just kidding. So here is the next chapter.
"we found traces of GHB in her system," the doctor calmly spoke to Ethan, while Kate laid in the bed next to them. "Not enough to knock her out, but enough to make her feel dizzy."
"So...she felt sick, and that is when she went to that guy's house," Ethan replied.
"Right. And when she tried to resist his advances, he knocked her out with a chemical that he mixed in his kitchen."
"You mean he planned this in advance?" Ethan asked.
"Yeah. Sick-minded guy, wouldn't you say?"
The two nodded their heads in agreement.
"But, she will be okay, won't she?"
"Despite maybe some psychological effects of the incident, I think she will be physically okay. But..."
"But what?"
"Never mind. I will have to discuss it with her parents and her."
"Please tell me."
"Why you?" the doctor asked, as he raised his eyebrows.
"Kate is alone in this world. She plays it off real well, but I know betrayal by your own parent well. I can tell."
"You two are friends?"
"Off and on. She is the pretty, popular cheerleader, and I am the stereotypical handsome, but yet very dumb jock. She was more interested in a more social relationship, one to boost her popularity, but I know her better than that."
"Really? You seem like you have a good head on your shoulders."
"I lost all interest in any academic pursuits when my mom died. People just assumed that I was...not so bright."
They sat in awkward silence for a second.
"So what is going to happen with Kate?" Ethan pressed the doctor.
"Well...I really should not tell you first."
"Okay, I get it."
Ethan started tapping a beat on the table.
"Would you please stop that?"
"Sorry, just bored."
After waiting for a minute, the doctor spoke up again.
"Are you two romantically involved?"
"It's complicated. We are, we are not. It is a painful cycle."
"Have you two ever participated in...I don't knwo how to say this, sexual activity?"
"No...our relationship isn't that deep, much to my dismay. It it kind of like a publicity stunt, you know like what celebrities do."
"Ahhh. I understand," the doctor said.
Kate sat in her bed, awakening from her sleep.
"Is my mom here yet?"
"She is flying in tonight," Ethan quickly replied.
"Oh."
A look of anger and sadness washed over Kate's face.
"Is it okay if I can just be checked out right now? I don't want my mom to know...about this, and if it is okay we can just keep this under wraps."
"I am afraid that will not be possible, Ms. Saunders," the doctor replied.
"Why not? You told me that she was not hurt," Ethan asked.
"She is not technically hurt," the doctor replied. "I guess I should stop trying to avoid the issue and tell you. You are pregnant."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
"WHERE IS MY DAUGHTER?"
An impatient, sunburned woman snapped at the receptionist.
"Name, please."
"Saunders, Kate, Saunders....how could she be so stupid?"
"Miss? She is on the third floor in room 345."
Julie Saunders, still in her beach outfit, stormed down the halls of Hillridge General Hospital until she reached the room where Kate was talking to Ethan.
"YOU LITTLE WHORE!" she screamed, as she ran into the room, and slapped Kate across the face.
"Mom, I'm sorry..." Kate whispered through her tears. She had been crying since she had recieved the news,
"I can't believe my own daughter is pregnant. You will be getting an abortion right away."
Kate, scared to speak up, sat back in her bed.
"Who are you?" Julie snapped at Ethan, who had been sitting queitly in the corner since her outburst.
"I am...Kate's friend from high school," he timidly spoke up.
"Please get out now," she said, pointing a manicured finger in the direction of the door.
"I would rather he stay, Mom. Ethan is my friend."
Julie glared at her daughter sitting in the hospital bed.
"I would like some alone time wih you."
Ethan hurried out to the hallway, but kept a safe distance to the door.
"Kate, what were you thinking?"
"I am so sorry."
"I need to make an appointment for you right away. Do you realize how embarassing this could be if it got out?"
Kate suddenly became infuriated with her mother.
"That is all you ever think about. Julie, Julie, Julie. I am your daughter, so why don't you act like it? And I plan to keep the baby."
"What did you say?"
"I want to take responsibility for my actions. I am keeping the baby."
Overwhelmed by her daughter's response, Julie sat down.
"Kate, it would ruin your life."
"I don't believe in killing an innocent life."
Julie took a deep breath.
"I will not allow that."
Kate looked down at her stomach, and sighed.
"Mom, there is a human life inside of me, and I cannot let it die. It's my child, and I want to keep it."
"But..."
"I don't want to argue about it, it is what I want to do. Ethan siad he would be glad to help me out."
"But your cheerleading, and high school...."
"I am not going to be selfish. I should not have went to that club."
"Kate, I am your mother, and you will do as I say. And I say that you will get an abortion right away."
"I am sorry mom, but I can't."
"YOU WILL DO AS I TELL YOU TO, AND THAT IS FINAL!" she screamed, aand ran out of the room, slamming the door shut.
The door slowly crept open not too soon after.
"Can I come in?" Ethan gently asked.
"Yeah," Kate replied, sobbing after her encounter with her mom.
She continued to cry, sitting in her bed.
"It's okay," Ethan said, wrapping his arms around her.
"Ethan, I can't..."
"It's okay. You don't have to."
"I don't know what to do, but I know that I can't murder an innocent life."
"We will think of a plan."
Kate stayed, wrapped in Ethan's arms.
"My life stinks," she said.
"No it does not."
"Come on, Craft. I have no true friends, my mom hates me, and I am a whore who is pregnant."
"Don't sell yourself short, Saunders. You have lots of friends."
"Not like Lizzie."
"What does she have to do with this?"
"She has two really great friends, and someone who truly loves her, not as...you know, like all of my relationships," she replied.
"More people love you than you think."
Kate breathed in the scent of Ethan's cologne.
"Why did you come to my rescue?" she asked.
"I knew you were in trouble, and I had..."
"Cut the crap, Craft."
Ethan was, not acting, truly perplexed.
"What do you mean?"
"Tell me why, truthfully."
"I told you."
Kate laughed through her tears.
"I can see right through your act, Ethan. I always knew that you were not dumb, and I always knew that you loved me."
Ethan smiled at Kate.
"Darn, you outed me."
The two laughed together, until they looked into each other's eyes.
Their two lips met, and they shared a passionate kiss. Ethan moved his hand around her waist, but Kate broke away.
"Not so fast, mister. I'm going to be a mom in nine months."
Ethan smiled at the young woman whose innocence had been destroyed just the night before. He kissed her on the cheek, and brushed back a piece of hair from her face.
"You're going to make it, I believe."
The new couple sat in the bed, and talked the night away until they fell asleep in each other's arms.
