Extinction - Iris

She was the last one. The last Witch to be hunted by the STN-J...the last Witch ever. And they hadn't meant to kill her. It was the last thing on their minds when they fired their guns, only to find real bullets instead of Orbo. Real bullets. The kind that rip through flesh. The kind that kill. But the small group of hunters had no choice but to shoot at her when she became agitated and used her powers to knock over Robin. Robin...her betrayer. Robin...her own blood.
And yet it was Robin who had tried to save her. Tried to save the last Witch. Tried to save the brown haired, violet eyed, British teenager known as Iris. She had watched her, studied her, if you will, so that she knew what she was dealing with. But Robin didn't find a cruel woman but a soft hearted adolescent who went to church every Sunday in London and spent her free time in Japan working alongside her father in a nearby hospital. She had a soft spot for the children, Robin noticed. It was only a month after moving in with her father that he had died of a heart attack and her mother dying in a freak fire. She was alone but took no pity from others The two had even carried on a memorable conversation before Amon and the crew tried to capture her in Harry's. Yet, here lay the good-hearted Iris in a pool of blood, feeling her very life slipping away from her body.

~At Harry's, earlier that day~

Robin entered the small cafe with a deterined expression. Yes, she would show her associates that she was worth more than the title of 'Craft User', that Amon had so generously bestowed upon her. She sat next to the Witch and ordered a cappuccino, one of the few things she missed from Italy. Iris didn't turn towards Robin but acknowledged her presence with a smile.
"Hello Robin."
"You know my name." It was more of a statement than a question. Iris nodded. Robin stared at the Witch. Her auburn hair was partially pulled back with a plastic clip. However, the clip wasn't strong enough to hold the desired amount of heavy hair, causing a few strands to grace the apples of her cheeks. Iris grinned again. Her smile, Robin noted, reeked of kindness, yet her violet eyes were flooded with a rare sadness.
"I know alot. It may just be coincidence but you're everywhere I am. They're hunting me aren't they?" Robin simply nodded, unable to answer with words.
"Iris...I..."
"It's funny, but i'm expecting Death. And i'm not scared. It's the hunters that scare me. And the fact that i'm the last one. The last Witch. The hunters....they hunt like we're animals. But I breath, eat, feel,....BLEED like every other human on this planet. What makes me so different that I have to be hunted?" Her eyes were close to shedding tears.

"You have a Craft."
"So? I only use my powers when I feel threatened. Besides then, I never use them. I used to think that they were jealous of my powers, so they would hunt me to feel superior."
"They don't kill Witches Iris."
"Yes they do. In an ironic way really. They use our own kind to disable us. I would rather meet Death than my body be filled with Orbo." Robin was shocked that this girl knew so much. Iris finally met Robin eye to eye. "I'm not scared of Death, Robin. I could care less about him. But I don't want to be the last one." Tears were freely falling from her lavender eyes, making Robin's own vision blur from salty tears. "I don't want to be the last one and hunted like an animal. I don't want to die by something stolen from my own kind. " Robin wanted nothing more than to embrace the girl and tell her that everything was okay. But she knew better. She knew Amon's car was parked right across the street from Harry's, listening to every word that was being said. She knew that the STN-J crew was waiting patiently around the corner for Amon's word to move in. Robin slowly leaned over the counter and pulled out a tablet that she used to take orders when she worked as a waitress. She then began to scribble a tiny message on the paper. Iris wiped away her tears and sipped at her tea. "I just want to go back home...to London....with my-" A small mumble caught her attention and she scanned the room for another person. When she didn't find one, she focused her ears on the sound again, only to trace it back to a hidden ear piece on Robin.
"You're....one of them?!", she whispered. Robin calmly stood up from her chair and passed the slip of paper to her. ~There are hunters outside. Get out while you can....please.~
Iris abruptly shot up from her chair, knocking the stool over on the floor. An orchid colored jacket swung limply around her.
"You knew, yet you help them anyway. I get it now. You were researching me." Iris paused on this note." How can you do this to your own BLOOD?!" Robin was taken back by this. Her blood? Did that mean...? Even in the heat of the moment, Robin could hear the slamming of a car door and the scrape of shoes across the pavement. Amon entered the cafe with his gun aimed directly in their direction. Iris backed herself into a corner, ready to protect herself against any kind of attack that Amon might throw upon her. Robin moved in front of the teenager in her defense.
"Move Robin." His voice was cold, but Robin's expression was colder. She had to make it cold, otherwise he wouldn't catch her point. His eyes narrowed into thin slits of warning. "Move."
"No." Iris managed to inch towards the fire exit during the cold staredown. However, Amon caught the motion and fired at Iris. Robin also caught the motion and dived at Iris, pushing the teenager out of the way, Orbo grazing the her left side. Robin yelped in pain. Iris budged towards the fallen Robin. She squeezed her hand softly, sending a soothing smile in her direction and driving the pain out of her body for a moment.
"Thank you." Iris then stood and shot a blast of power at Amon, knocking him over and locking down Harry's. Without another word, she fled the building. Robin managed to gather enough strength to stand and faced Amon. She knew he would not be happy about her decision. ~That night~
Robin paced back and forth in her hospital room. She felt like a prisoner, like she was being punished for the day's earlier situation. Amon had not communicated with her since the incident. She remembered looking at him as he lay on the floor, secured by invisible ropes of power. She then blacked out but never felt impact with the floor. Had Amon caught her before she fell? It didn't matter if he did or not. The fact of the matter was, that he now felt betrayed. Robin had purposely disobeyed her associate to save the life a Witch; the thing she hunted she had saved. She plopped down on the soft mattress and rocked her haad in her palms.
Amon stared at the girl through the tiny glass window of her hospital room door. Why had she done that? Save a Witch and defy STN-J? Kate had done the same thing and he was forced to hunt her. He had hoped Robin wouldn't be the same, that she was somehow different. He also hoped that she had sufficient reasoning for her motive to save Iris. He entered the room, sending chills down Robin's spine.
"Let's go. We've got a lead on Iris' location." Robin was at first surprised by Amon's voice, but then regretted ever hearing it. She was being forced to see Iris again. But she knew what he was doing, he was testing her to see if she was really betraying STN-J; if she was betraying HIM.
Iris clawed at the cargo boxes. She had found herelf enclosed in a warehouse on a local dock. No way out, unless she wanted to get shot with a gallon of Orbo. She had seen how much of that liquid was used to bring down Witches and that was something she was willing to avoid. She felt the presence of another being and turned to find a blonde haired Robin peering over at her. But Robin wasn't alone, Amon stood closely behind her, his gun raised to shoot.
"I'm sorry Iris..." Iris' blood began to boil as she screamed in agony and power surged throughout the room, knocking Robin into Amon. He gracefully caught her and fired a round. Two more rounds were fired from the rest of the crew. After the smoke cleared, they gawked in horror. Before them stood a bleeding Iris. Numerous holes leaked the crimson liquid as the bullet ridden collapsed to the ground. Robin sniffed the air and found the distinct smell of lead. Real bullets? Why couldn't they just bring her down with killing her?!
"NO!" Robin fell to her knees beside the girl, Witch's blood soaking through her full skirt. She turned the teenager over, Iris' usual bright violet eyes now a hazy purple. Tears were still being emitted from those eyes and Robin could feel a knot swelling up in her throat. It didn't have to be like this. It didn't have to end like this for her. She gently closed the girl's eyes and said a silent prayer. "I thought you bring them down with Orbo." Karasuma dropped her gun, still shocked from what had happened.

"We do but..."
"Witches are meant to be hunted." Amon's unmoved voice brought Robin from her grieving.
"She still bleeds like everyone else!!!! She could still feel!!!" The crew looked at each other for answers but none were given. What now? Witches were now extinct. Robin stared at the crew in a demeaning manner. They killed her. They executed the last Witch. What was left now that there were no more to hunt?

Kinda short, but yea.....Next chapter: the new breed of the hunted
