Rogue draped a cloth over the mirror of the room that she and a girl called Shadowcat shared. She didn't need to see what she looked like, she already knew: untouchable.
The group of girls all joined hands. Rebecca turned to her friend and beckoned with a finger, smiling. "C'mon Marie! It won't work unless we all do it!"
She knew better. She didn't want to. But she wanted to belong, so she did it. She crept closer to the group, sitting on her knees.
"Grab my hand." Rebecca held her own out, palm up.
Marie hesitated.
"Don't be scared." Her friend smiled.
"Rogue, we're goin' out, wanna come?" Scott leaned his head inside her room.
She sat with her back to him and shook her head sharply. "No, Ah've got things to do."
He paused. "See ya when we get back then."
She smirked. Not likely...
"Marie?"
She looked up into his eyes. Eyes like the sky. She smiled happily. "Yeah?"
"I really like you . . . a lot."
Her cheeks pinkened. "You mean it?" Please say you do.
He nodded, his lips twisting into a smile. "I do."
There was an akward silence, but when the two met gazes again, it spoke volumes.
He licked his lips. "Can . . . can I . . . "
She widened her eyes eagerly. "Yes, Cody?" She whispered.
"Can I kiss you?" He breathed.
How many times had she tried it? Dozens at least. It'd never worked, obviously. She had the scars to prove it.
"'Scuse me, could you hand me my pencil? I dropped it and it rolled by your desk." He smiled apologetically.
Marie smiled back and curved down to pick it up. She handed it back.
"Thanks." He said, their fingers brushing.
She had so many memories, and most of them didn't even belong to her. Sometimes she had to remind herself that she was real. She couldn't reassure herself by reaching out and touching something for comfort like the others could.
She didn't like hurting herself, in fact, she hated pain. But the blood . . . the blood reminded her, gave her hope.
And I'd give up forever to touch you
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't wanna go home right now
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
And sooner or later it's over
I just don't want to miss you tonight
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
And you can't fight the tears that ain't comin'
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
And you bleed just to know you're alive
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
