Sam was restless. Her sleep was broken by dreams. Names kept floating through her mind and she didn't know why. A man she knew kept appearing in her dreams but it wasn't her husband. She knew this man from somewhere, but couldn't place where. She kept seeing a sheen blue water and felt she should know why. Names: Daniel, Janet, Cassie, General, Jacob, Colonel, Sam. Who were they? What did they mean to her? She tossed and turned and muttered in her sleep. Sam Carter, Sam Carter....why did she know that name? Was it someone she knew before? Military uniforms, guns. What was this all about. She'd have to ask Jackson about that. She'd have to ask him a lot of things. She needed to know more about her past, about her illness, about ...everything. She sat bolt upright in bed sweating, her heart pounding. Something was right at the front of her mind, but she couldn't quite grasp it, something that was very important. She thought hard, but it slipped away. Her head was aching. She was so frustrated that tears filled her eyes.

Just as she was starting to get herself out of bed, Jackson came in. Startled at seeing her awake he came immediately to her side.

"What's wrong, baby?" He asked brushing the sweaty hair from her forehead. "Did you have a bad dream?"

"I don't know. Images and names kept floating through my mind. Water, blue water. Was I ever in the military? Or did I work for the military. I dreamed about a general. And the military. This is driving me crazy!" she said as tears started falling down her cheeks.

Jackson immediately pulled her into a hug. He didn't want her to see his face. He knew that some of her memories were starting to surface and this could be the beginning of the end for him...for them. He had to keep her from her past, but was not sure how to do it. He pulled her tighter and ran his fingers through her hair. He would just have to keep her drugged more heavily. She couldn't remember her past. He wouldn't let her. If she did, she would leave him. He would not let that happen. He needed to distract her right now. He pulled back from her and looked into her face. The tears still fell slowly, but she seemed to be better. Once again the looked into her eyes and started to move towards her lips. She looked back at him with some apprehension. His lips brushed hers softly then withdrew. He looked at her again. There was nothing in her eyes that told him no, so he repeated it. She responded slightly, moving closer into his arms. That was all he needed to take the next step and deepen the kiss. They clung together for a few minutes, each lost in the moment. As he started to pull away, she pulled him tightly to her.

"What's the matter?" He asked looking into her eyes.

"Thank you," she whispered quietly.

"For what?" he asked.

"For being here when I need you", she mumbled back, starting to lean heavily in his arms. He looked down into her face and saw her slipping into sleep. He smiled. Crisis averted - at least for now. He gently laid her back onto the bed and pulled the quilt over her.

Getting up, he moved to the bathroom and looked again at Karen's medicines. "Looks like I have to go with the heavy meds now. She's having breakthrough memories and we can't have that." He pulled out a box of Duragesic patches that Karen had used for pain. He knew that one patch was good for 3 days. He could keep her sedated and controllable for quite a while...long enough to make her forget these memories, and to reinforce that she was Karen. He took a patch from the box and returned to the bedroom. Gently turning her head and shoulders away from him, he tugged her nightgown down so that the back of her shoulder was exposed. He opened the patch and applied it to her back, then eased her onto the bed.

He smiled to himself. "This will keep you mine," he said softly. "You will be mine...body and soul."
