~Money isn't Everything~
It was a nice summer afternoon when they decided to take a break making flyers. Ginji had agreed to treat both of them to a pizza each in the nearby store across the road.
"Ban-chan...that was my pizza!" Ginji wailed at his partner who just swallowed his piece of pizza.
"My share didn't fill me up so I had to eat yours." Ban said, snickering at Ginji.
"But that was—"
Ban was now heading to his car, ignoring the red-faced Ginji who was shouting behind him.
Ginji seated himself beside in the front seat while Ban took the wheel. Ban changed the subject.
"Wanna go somewhere else before going back to the Honky Tonk?"
Ginji thought for a moment then his face brightened up. "How 'bout we go to the park, Ban-chan?"
Ban replied with a nod and a sigh, then drove to the direction of the park.
-----
After Ban had parked his car, he found a bench and seated himself on it. Naturally, Ginji followed and sat beside him.
Ban took a cigarette and lit it. It was one of the few things that he was used to doing. Ginji, on the other hand, was staring at the kids playing by the playground. They were silent for a while. Then Ban suddenly spoke up.
"Why d'you want to go here?" Ban said looking at Ginji.
"Well....I just thought that we'd enjoy the view here, that's all."
Ban stared at Ginji for a moment, then said, "Liar. That's not the reason why we're here, right?"
Ginji turned to look at Ban slowly and said, "I know this is a silly question, that you wouldn't want to answer, Ban-chan."
Ban saw in the look in his eyes that this was one of the rare moments when Ginji became serious. "What is it, anyway?"
Ginji fiddled his thumbs and gathered himself. He didn't want to ask the question, it would hurt Ban-chan, but he wanted so badly to know what would be his answer.
"This question has been bothering me lately, and I'm wondering right now if I'm doing the right thing asking you this question."
"Okay, okay tell it already. I don't want suspense or something like that."
"Will you promise not to get mad?"
"Yeah, yeah. Spit it out already."
Ginji breathed deeply, then finally asked, "Ban-chan, you like money right?"
Ban glared at Ginji. "You already know the answer. That's what we're working for right?"
Ginji continued, "Ban-chan, if it's over money and me, which will you choose? To put it over simpler terms, will you give me away just for money?"
There was a long silence between them. Finally Ban answered. "Ginji, you know I like money, but there are just some things that money can't replace. You, for instance."
Ban grinned at Ginji. "Ginji, you're one of the most important people in my life. I can't trade you for the sake of money. I'm not that desperate."
Hearing Ban's answer, Ginji flew to Ban, crying and hugging him at the same time.
"Thank you, Ban-chan!" Ginji said between sobs.
"Hey, hey cut that out! You're making a scene in public!"
But deep in their hearts, Ban nor Ginji really didn't mind. They had each other.
