Author's Note: This idea hit me while I was watching TV . . . I don't want to reveal the characters just yet, it is an AU fic involving a GH pairing. Please review and let me know if I should continue.

She lay in comfortable silence, her head over his heart, her arm resting just under his rib cage. Shutting her eyes and drinking in the scent of him, she relished the feel of his body under hers, his arm wrapped around her waist, the weight of it making her feel secure in a way that only he could.

The movie played on forgotten, as the dwindling fire had taken over the room, lulling them both into a contented haze. She could tell by the movement of his chest under her cheek that he was sleeping, and had been for some time. She peeked up at him through her lashes, keeping her head still, and a smile touched her lips at the sight of his peaceful countenance.

Tears abruptly pooled in her eyes, and she shut them quickly, burrowing closer into his side. She allowed herself to relax in his arms for mere seconds longer, memorizing the feel of his body next to hers, before manoeuvring her body off the couch and crouching in front of it. Gazing once again upon his face, she marvelled at his beauty, and reached up to gently push aside the hair that had flopped onto his forehead.

She had always adored the feel of his skin, and couldn't stop herself from trailing her fingers over his cheek and along the line of his jaw, feeling the stubble that had grown over the day. Her fingers stopped short of grazing his lips, and she finally stood, the saddest of smiles gracing her face as she looked down upon her best friend, her soulmate, and the love of her life.

After ensuring that he was deeply asleep, she decided to permit herself one last indulgence. She bent over his body and pressed a kiss to his lips, darting her tongue out for a split-second to sample the flavour that was uniquely his.

She immediately retreated, grabbed her purse, and strode out the door, tears falling silently behind the curtain of her hair as she left, never looking back.
