Miki's middle school years: Prologue to Marmalade Boy tm
Chapter One:
Miki sat on a bench outside Tokyo junior high. She was a freshman. Her first year in junior high had not been easy. Well not since he arrived. He was a tall cute Japanese boy with eyes you could drown in. His name was Ginta. He was the new boy and all the girls liked him and all the guys wanted to hang out with him. Miki couldn't even glance at him during school because of the mob that surrounded him. But Miki had talked to him after school as she walked home. They seemed to have a lot in common. They both liked tennis. Miki didn't see why Ginta didn't join the tennis team. The couch was looking for a new freshman guy and Ginta seemed perfect for the job. But he insisted that he wasn't good enough to play on a real team.
Miki came back to her senses as the bell rang. She hurried to the girls' locker room to change for tennis practice. She walked in slowly there weren't any familiar faces. She knew there were freshmen on the team but she didn't know any of them. There were several older girls around Miki. Miki felt awkward as she changed into baby blue sweats. She listened to the older girls talk as they changed into their short tennis skirts.
"Yeah I saw him! He's so cute." One of the girls said twirling her strand if blond hair. "Isn't he a freshman?" Another girl asked. "Yeah, His last name is Sou or something!" The blond one said. The girls left the locker hall still chatting loudly. Ginta, Miki thought to herself. Even the seniors wanted to go out with him.
Miki walked out of the locker room. A tall pretty girl sat on a bench; a book in her hand. Miki recognized her from her homeroom class. She never seemed to have any one to talk to. Her name was Akizuki, Mieko Akizuki. Mieko was such a pretty name it suited the girl well. Miki walked over to the girl.
"Hi! I think we are in the same class?!?! I'M..," Miki began.
"Koshikawa, Miki Koshikawa. I know. I knew you looked familiar." Mieko said lightly snapping her book shut. Miki was confused. "I'm Akizuki, Mieko Akizuki. It's quite a pleasure to meet you. So I take it you didn't go to Tokyo magnet or else I would have remembered you."
"No I went to school out of town. Had to commute because my mom and dad couldn't afford to move when mom got a new job in Kobe. So I was forced to take the subway for an hour and a half to Kobe every morning and every afternoon." Miki said in one breath. Mieko listened very intently. Not minding that Miki went on and on. A sharp screech from a whistle caused Miki to stop suddenly. Chino-san tapped her foot impatiently. Miki turned from Mieko; waving a quick goodbye. Mieko waved back, smiling.
Miki hit the tennis ball swiftly with her racket. Her opponent was no match for her smash. The ball bounced off the ground and out of the court winning Miki the match. Miki heard two people clapping loudly. Miki looked around the courts looking for the clappers. Miki caught sight of Mieko; she was clapping and had a huge smile on her face. The other clapping came from the other side of the court. It was Ginta; clapping loudly. Miki smiled as she walked towards the fence where Ginta stood. HE waved as she walked closer.
"You were great!" He said as Miki stopped on the opposite side of the fence.
"Thanks! But it wasn't much of a challenge!" Miki said. She smiled nervously. Ginta smiled too.
