AN: Just like I'm saying on all my other new chapters, sorry it took so
long. I'm working on the next chapter now, so it should be up soon. Hope
you enjoy this chapter!
Chapter 4
The rest of the day, Jamie felt like she was walking on cloud nine. True, she had promised herself that she never wanted to be in a relationship with Landon again. But this was the new Landon, and the new Jamie. She even took down the picture and polished it.
After staring at it for five minutes, Jamie decided to go inspect the attic.
There was so much stuff; Jamie knew she was going to need some help. She smiled and picked up the phone.
"Hello?" The voice said from the other line
"Hey Landon? It's Jamie." She said
"How did you get my number?" He asked playfully
"I looked it weirdo, like normal people." She said, "But anyway, getting to the point, the reason I called is because I'm clearing the stuff from the attic and-"
"You need some man power?" Landon joked
"Yes Superman, I need you help. Please, come save me." Jamie said, playing along.
"All right! I will fly over as fast as I can!" He said, and Jamie laughed
"Bye Carter." She said, and hung up the phone.
When the bell rang ten minutes later, Jamie opened the door, and almost died laughing.
Landon had a superman short sleeve shirt, a red cape, and goggles. The only thing different that instead of tights he was just wearing jeans.
"Well, except for the jeans, you look like Wonder Boy." Jamie laughed
"Wonder Boy to the rescue!" Landon yelled and "flew" into the house. "Where is the trouble fare lady?"
"Attic Wonder Boy." Jamie laughed, and pushed him to the entrance.
As they worked, every once in a while they'd find something funny (Jamie's baby pictures), or something sad (A picture of her dad and mom together). Landon watched her flip through her parents wedding album, and he knew how hard it was for her.
"Hey Jamie," Landon said, "I'm going to go downstairs and get us some lemonade. Do you need anything else?"
"No." She said and smiled at him . When he was gone, Jamie pulled over a box she had been eyeing for a couple of minutes.
When she turned the box she saw purple writing, which read, "Jamie's Stuff."
She looked at it oddly. She didn't remember having a box of "stuff", so her father must have done it.
When she opened up the box, the first thing on top was a picture of her mom holding her when she was born.
'Oh Mom.' Jamie thought to herself, 'I wish you were still here.'
All the pictures, awards, and certificates were in order, so she knew that when she got closer to the bottom was where she'd find the pictures of her and Landon together. And sure enough, there they were. The picture of them and a baseball game (Jamie eating a hot dog and cheering the home team on), lots of pictures from the prom and Halloween when they craved pumpkins together.
On the very bottom of the box, was something she thought she had lost; her diary. She opened it to the middle page and read,
Dear Diary,
I love him so much. And I'm not acting like those cheerleaders who write 'I love so and so' on there hand and giggle madly. No, this love is different. When I'm around Landon, I feel different, special. We don't go on ordinary dates to the movies or diner. Instead we stay up late, just looking at the stars. Or when it snows, and we go take a walk in the park. And when we kiss...that just pure happiness and bliss. Words came not express how I feel about him, just true love. I've never been this sappy before, but I just can't help it. I'm in love.
Jamie remembered writing that. She turned to the last entry, and she remembered that too.
I feel like a fish out of water. Like it's not possible to breath, and I'm going to die. I want to cry, I want to let it all out, but it's just clogged in my throat, unable to come out. I can't believe this would ever happen to me. I've heard stories about other girls getting their heart broken, but mine's not broken. It's been stomped on, right in front of my own eyes. I don't think I can live this much longer. As soon as I graduate, I'm leaving. I know my Dad won't want to too, but he's going to have to understand. I loved Landon. It hurts just to write his name. The worst part is, I thought he loved me back. Heck, he told me. And I believed him. I'll never be able to love again. I can't love, knowing I could be hurt this bad again. He said he loved me. He said he loved me. He said he loved me. And I loved him back.
Jamie couldn't hold it in much longer. When she saw Landon come up, humming and holding lemonade, she burst into tears, and ran down the stairs.
She ran into her room, and curled herself into a ball.
Landon watched Jamie run away, and wondered what had gotten into her. She probably found something of her-
He saw the diary lying on the floor and picked it up.
Inside was Jamie's handwriting.
He read the entry and suddenly couldn't breathe.
'This is what she went through?' He thought, 'This is what I caused her?'
Still holding the notebook, he silently walked to Jamie's room, and knocked softly.
"Jamie?" He croaked
Jamie heard Landon's voice but didn't really want to face him. Before she could tell him to go away, he came in and sat on the bed next to her.
He lifted up the diary and said, "I think before we go ahead we need to go back." Jamie didn't look at him but nodded.
"Look Jamie, when you ran out of the attic I saw the diary, and I read it." He paused
Jamie didn't care that he read it. In a way she was glad he knew what she went through.
"You can keep it." She said
"Fine." Landon said, and set it down, the held her hand. "Jamie, I loved you so much. You were the best thing that ever happened to me, I thank God every day for letting me share part of my life with you. And I'm really sorry about how much pain I caused you, and I can never get over the fact that I lost you. I think I should probably go. I'll see you later."
Jamie didn't answer, so Landon picked up the diary and walked out.
"Bye." He said and left.
Jamie stayed in her bedroom the rest of the day until the doorbell rang.
She got up, not caring how she looked, and walked downstairs to the door.
When she opened it, it was Eric standing there weakly smiling and holding flowers.
"Eric that's really sweet of you but-" Jamie started but Eric cut her off and gave her the flowers.
"There not from me." He said, "I'm just the messenger."
Jamie stared at the purple Hyacinth and looked at the tag on them. 'Flower Meanings' it read, and Jamie looked up purple Hyacinth. It said, Please forgive me, sorrow. [AN: I know they actually mean this because I looked it up]
"He wanted to say I'm sorry, but he couldn't find a flower which said that." Eric said
"That's really nice of him." Jamie said, putting the flowers into a vase.
"Jamie, you'll never know how Landon felt when you broke with him." Eric told her Jamie didn't say anything.
"I think it's time to move on Jamie." He said
Jamie turned to face him. "I think so too." She said
