Night

By Harbani Ahuja

As the sun closed its eyes
And started to go down
It shot some pink and purple
Into the sky of our town

The moon appeared suddenly
After counting up to three
All day it had been with the clouds
Playing hide and seek

As I stood beside my window
And watched the life outside
The always bright and golden sun
Had just begun to hide

I started into my room
Depressing, bleak and dreary
And then I looked outside
Vigorous and cheery

A dirty window lay between us
I had already tried
But I would try again; to escape
To life that lived outside

I waited till it was silent
Waited till I could leave
I left my room, them thinking
That I was still asleep

I snuck out the door after
I crept down the stairs
If felt cool and breezy
As I just stood there

I stood there for a while
As still as I could stand
I breathed in the fresh scent
As a leaf swept past my hand

Then I walked over
And lay beside my tree
The grass tickled at my cheek
And bright leaves fell onto me

It smelled like fresh-picked roses
The wind blew at my hair
Then I looked up at the sky
The world's jewels all lay there

The wind began to whisper
Then started on a run
I stared up at the dark deep blanket
That was warm without a sun

I smiled to myself, there
As I lay beside my tree
And then I closed my eyes
As sleep came over me
