Chapter Two: Lost Innocence

Raven and the others sat in the den later that same day. Each was dealing with what the dream they had shared. It was nearly noon when Sword finally made an appearance. His hair was tousled and he seemed tired. He yawned as he sat at the table for lunch. He had changed his shirt to a dark blue and he still had his sunglasses on. When he was done he walked up to the others and sat on the couch.

The Titans looked at him each wondering what to say. Raven spoke up first. "Why do you look so tired?"

"I was up all night scrying."

"What," Beast Boy had spoken up, "is scrying?"

"I used a large mirror to find things and information. I searched your entire world and found what I need to seal the last portal to Xith."

            "Where is it?" Robin asked.

"What is it?" Starfire asked. Everyone was interested, the dream temporarily forgotten.

"It is in the History Museum here in town. It's a coal black diamond called the Lost Innocence." He looked around at them. "We have a problem though. It seems your buddy Slade has an interest in an army of demons for himself. I suppose he thinks that if he summons a demon it will fight for him."

"Can he actually do that," Robin asked a hint of worry in his voice.

"He could summon it but demons are very loyal to their Daemon masters. You can only force one to obey you if you put magical restraints on it, strong magical restraints. As far as I can tell Slade doesn't have any magical ability whatsoever."

"So what will happen if he summons it and can't control it," Cyborg queried.

"Usually it will turn on its summoner, kill him, and return where it came from. But since this is the only world left unsealed the Daemons could order their demons to obey Slade until one of them could get an army through. If we can't get that jewel I'm going to have to go to Xith and destroy both Daemons. That would be nearly impossible."

"Well we carry some respect here in the city and maybe we could get the diamond before Slade does," Robin said deep in thought.

"Hey," came Terra's annoyed voice, "You wouldn't happen to know how all of us had the same dream last night would you?"

Sword scratched the side of his head. "Nope," he said, "Like I said, I was up all night scrying. I didn't have time to do anything like that." He thought for a moment. "Did you all have splitting headaches when you got up?"

"Yes," they chorused. He held up his hands and began chanting. After a few minutes he stopped and lowered his arms.

"It seems that my strong magical energies have triggered the release of something dormant within you all."

"What could we possibly have hidden in us that we don't know about," Cyborg was looking annoyed.

"I don't know. I just know that you all have something hidden within you and you need to find out what it is and how to control it before you hurt yourselves." He looked at them each in turn. "Was there any reason why I would have known that you had similar dreams last night?"

Beast Boy chimed in, "You were in it."

"That's odd," he quipped, "I don't think I've ever been in anyone's dreams except my mother's."

"One more thing," Raven said, "Why don't you ever take those sunglasses off?"

"Oh that…" Sword rubbed the back of his head absently, "People tell me that my eyes are peculiar."

"Do they shoot super cool laser beams out of them," asked Beast Boy excitedly.

"Or are they some weird unnatural color," Terra sounded just as exited as Beast Boy.

"Oh no…" He said waving his hands, "Its just that my eyes show people things. I don't know what they see because no one will tell me what they see. It may be different for everyone." He looked solemn as he spoke the next part. "I've lost a lot of friends because of my eyes so I took to covering them except while I sleep."

"So what color are your eyes?" Raven was curious.

"Deep cerulean blue." After that he bid them good day and went to get some sleep.

((()))

Raven sat in her room at her writing desk. She had her chin in one hand propped up on the desk. The other Titans had gone to the museum to retrieve the "Lost Innocence" Diamond. She had declined the chance to go with them under the excuse of needing to meditate. She had not however been meditating at all. She was instead trying to figure out what it was that she was feeling. Oddly enough Sword had declined the chance to accompany the others as well.

She had intended to spend the entire time alone in her room but now a low growl coming from her stomach denied her the pleasures of solitary contemplation. She went to the kitchen and opened the fridge. She pushed the contents around trying to avoid the tofu and other meat substitutes. When nothing in the fridge seemed satisfactory she began to rifle through the freezer. Nothing in there either. She then went trough each and every cupboard until she found a small bag of chocolate baking chips. It seemed that Cyborg, who usually did all of the cooking, had tried to hide them again. It was futile as Raven could find chocolate chips in a twister.

She absently picked her way back to her room as she concentrated on eating the rather large bag of chocolate. When she opened her door however she noticed that it was not her room she had entered. She had entered one of the guest rooms. Sword's guest room to be exact. She stood frozen as she saw him asleep. The covers were thrown off and he was laying spread eagle on the bed. His blue t-shirt had ridden half way up his stomach to show his well-built abs, and his hair was still as tousled as it had been earlier. He slept with his leather gloves on and his boots were neatly placed to one side of the door.

Raven couldn't help herself as she realized something. She knew what the emotion was that she wasn't able to identify before was. But it couldn't be that! Could it? No, she was misreading it. She did however admit that he was cute the way he slept. She let a small smile slide across her face as she admired him.

Before she could help herself she began to walk toward the bed, chocolate forgotten, and kneeled next to the sleeping man. She studied every inch of his face while it was peaceful untouched by worry. She couldn't tell how long she had been there staring at him, studying him. Fate, if you wanted to call it that, intervened. After who knew how many hours of her kneeling there on the soft carpet, her communicator rang. What happened next, Raven would never forget.

Raven had no time to react as Sword's eyes snapped open and hers were immediately drawn to them. She only stared into them for a few seconds but it felt like an eternity. What she saw when she looked into her eyes made her drop the forgotten chocolate bag. When Sword finally realized what was happening he sat bolt upright, grabbed his shades from the night table and placed them over his eyes.

The communicator rang again and Raven grabbed it to avoid the embarrassing moment. She flipped it open and saw Robin on the screen.

"Raven," he said clearly relieved, "Go get Sword and meet us in the warehouse district on the east side. Slade has the diamond and is headed there. He switched the one in the museum with a fake and left his calling card hidden near it. Robin out!"

The heroes looked at each other and agreed in an instant not to talk about what had happened with the others and to talk privately soon. Then they were off to help the Titans against Slade.

((()))

When Raven and Sword arrived at the warehouse district they found the other Titans waiting.

"Hey guys," Cyborg greeted them, "We just need to find out which building he's in. Then we can go bust him up and get that diamond."

"The only problem is that there are fifteen warehouses each three hundred fifty feet in length. This sector of the city stretches for over a mile," Robin explained in a worried voice, "We need to find him before he can summon any demons."

"Here," Sword gestured to Beast Boy, "Lend me your communicator."

Beast Boy gave him a suspicious look and asked, "Why?"

"I need a reflective surface, preferably round to perform the scrying spell."

            "Oh! I see. Why mine?"

"Here!" Robin shoved his into Sword's outstretched hand.

"Thanks!" Sword then flipped the communicator so its glass screen could be clearly seen. Then he began a swift chant. Everyone craned to get a look at the screen as he muttered the incantation. Soon they could see Slade's minions ripping crates open and could see him standing in the center of one of the isles. The view switched and they saw a large, white number thirteen above an open warehouse door.

Sword flipped the communicator shut and handed it back to Robin saying, "Warehouse thirteen."

"That's directly in the center of the lot," Cyborg half screamed, "We'll never make it in time!"

"Allow me." Sword raised his hand and said a few sharp words in an obscure language and they all passed through some exceedingly gray world and were immediately standing in front of warehouse thirteen.

They entered to find Slade waiting for them diamond in one hand and open book in another. He spoke a short incantation and held the Lost Innocence aloft. The jewel flared with a dark light.

"Witness my power as I control an army of demons." Slade had a smug air of confidence about him as they waited for the demons to show. What happened was less spectacular than a horde of deadly monsters appearing but had just as big an impact.

With a small 'pop' a small creature, that Sword later identified as an imp, swooped from nowhere, grabbed the black diamond and swooped away with another small 'pop' and was gone again from the Titans world.

Sword walked up to Slade, shoulders tense, face set in anger, and grabbed the masked man. He lifted the shocked villain off of his feet and spoke. "You fool," he spat the word as though it was poison, "You have just doomed not only yourself but your entire realm. You just let the one thing that could seal this world and save it from destruction be taken by one of the demons that want to strip this world of its natural resources. Your greed has made you an IDIOT!" He then grabbed the masked man by his head and with his eyes ablaze and a wave of his hand opened a portal colored of deepest crimson red and tossed the foolish villain to his doom in the realm he named "Inferno".

A/N: Well what did you think? Was that good or what? No really tell me. I need to know.
