"Walk please!" Peter called after a child who was speeding down the Jennings Elementary School hall. The child turned to look his principle in the eye. Slowly, he turned around and walked to class. Peter laughed and walked to the fifth grade hall. He knocked on the door of room 11, and walked in. There he saw his wife, Ruthie, sitting at her desk while all the kids worked on a work sheet. Ruthie smiled when she saw Peter walk into the room. He motioned for her to come over to him, setting of a round of catcalls from throughout the room. Ruthie laughed and silenced her students by threatening them with more homework. Peter and Ruthie stepped outside the classroom into the hall.
"What's going on?" Ruthie asked her husband with a sly smile.
"Just thought I'd come and say hi. It's not like you didn't let on that your kids would be working at 1:00 pm."
"Yeah so maybe I wanted you to come say hi..." Ruthie said with a giggle. Ruthie leaned in for a kiss, but Peter backed away.
"No no no! We're still at work, you know." He said.
"Oh well!" Ruthie answered. Peter smiled and held his wife by the shoulders, pushing her back into her classroom. When she was in, she spun around and stole a kiss before he left. The catcalls started again, but a single glare on Ruthie's part made them all stop. She happily walked back to her desk and sat down at her computer. Lifting her laptop screen once again, she continued composing her e-mail to Mary in New York.

Mary carefully balanced her tower of grocery bags in her arms as she felt around in her purse for her house keys. She finally felt them and pulled them up. She put the key in slot and turned. She turned the handle and pushed the door open.
"Carlos!" She cried out when she got inside. "Help!" Her husband rushed into the room to rescue her. He cautiously took the top three bags and carried them to the kitchen counter. Gratefully, Mary followed with the last two bags. She sat them next to the other bags and turned to her husband.
"Thank you!" She said happily and kissed him. He laughed.
"Oh course." He answered. Mary headed for the office.
"I'm going to check my e-mail, OK?" She asked. Carlos nodded his approval and Mary sat down at the office chair. She pulled up her AOL screen and clicked 'sign on'. A minute later, her welcome screen appeared.
"You've got mail." Said a robotic voice out of her speakers.
"Why thank you. I can see that!" She responded, even though the voice couldn't hear her. She clicked on the yellow letter sticking out of her mailbox and her mail screen opened. She scanned the letters from the top down.
"No, I don't want a new pool." She said, hitting delete, "I know I didn't win a million dollars." She said, hitting delete once again. "Oh, Ruthie!" She said happily and double clicked on her little sister's school e-mail address. The e-mail came up and she began to read.
Dear Mary,
Hey! How are things going up in The Big Apple? LoL. I know you hate when I call it that, but I like it, so oh well. I'm pleased to announce, as Lucy and Kevin's personal mailman, that Lucy is officially two months pregnant! She's due September 8th. Isn't it exciting? Now mom and dad will have five grand kids instead of four. How fun. Luce has been trying to call you but you weren't in. She asked me to drop you a note. Why she couldn't, I'm not sure, but I'm happy to be able to chat with you.
How is life as a secretary working out for you? Are you enjoying taking calls? Making appointments? Haha. Speaking of doctors, Matt is Lucy's doctor. Weird, huh? She's all excited though, and I guess it will let them spend more time together, so it's all good.
Oh, Mary, I better get going. My class is just finishing up with their spelling cross word puzzle activities that I gave them. Have a great day. I love you! Love, Ruthie (AKA Mrs. Petrowski—haha)
Mary smiled as she read the note from her sister. She immediately called Carlos in when she was finished. He came in and saw the huge smile on his wife's face.
"What?" He asked.
"Look!" She told him, pointing to the e-mail's first paragraph. A moment later, Carlos looked up at her.
"Lucy's pregnant?" He asked.
"Yeah! Isn't is wonderful?" She asked happily.
"Sure, it's great." He said. "So that will make our niece and nephew count five now?"
"Yep. Emily, Sean, Rachel, Ethan, and then Lucy and Kevin's new baby." She said with a smile.
"Cool. When is she due?" He asked.
"September 8th." Mary answered. "Near Labor Day!" Carlos laughed.
"Yeah! How funny." He responded. The couple laughed and kissed.
"Just seven more months. I can't wait. I love to see all the babies." Mary said. Carlos eyed her skeptically.
"Mary..." He said slowly. "You know that we aren't going to..."
"I know. I know. Not for a few years anyway. Stop worrying. I'm not hinting!" She said.
"OK..." Carlos answered, still suspicious.
"We're not ready yet. Don't worry!" She said kissing him.
"OK." He said sounding more sure. "Maybe in a few years."
"Yeah. In a few years." She confirmed. They smiled and Mary turned back to the computer.
"Now, if you don't mind, I think I'll get back to reading my e-mail." She said. Carlos laughed.
"Fine, fine, I'm leaving!" He said, hearing her hint loud and clear. Mary smiled and clicked on her next e-mail, thinking all the while of Lucy's new pregnancy.
