Ron sat on the stool and wondered why he had even thought of believing Fred and George.  He felt the Hat settle around his ears and it instantly became very animated.

'Wrestle a troll, you can't be serious?' Ron didn't know how to respond, so he wondered how he could hear it.  He also wondered if others could hear it.

'No they cannot hear me, you are a curious one, aren't you? Now, just think and I will hear you.'

'Um, I want to be in Gryffindor. May I Please?'

'Ahhh, but are you Gryffindor material?'

'I- Uh…I d-…Yes I am.'

'Attempted Honesty, at least. And some courage too, let us see though…You do remind me of your parents.  Your father with his courage and fairness.  You mother with the pure love she showed everyone, no matter how they had hurt her.  But you are a combination of the two, your love and courage is strong, but you are ambitious to exceed all of your brothers.  So within you there is the almost-limitless ambition of a Slytherin, The profound Courage and fairness of a Gryffindor and the unending love and Loyalty of a Hufflepuff.'

'I can't be in Slytherin.'

'I see.  Is this what you want, or what you think your family wants for you.  I have seen the wasted lives, just because they followed their family's wishes and not their own.'

'Well, it's the only house I've thought of.'

'I see.  There isn't more, or is there?'

'Well, I guess I'm friends with Harry Potter now.  But he doesn't know anything about our world.  I want to be his friend.'

'I see, I will only ask you these few questions…'

There was a short pause, as if the hat was taking a deep breath.

'Do you trust him already?'

'Yes, I do.'

'Will you stick by him, no matter what?'

'I'll do my best.'

'Good.  You have had a good and loving life, but things will change soon.  You must stick by the ones that will become your friends and those whom you love.  Your family will not always be as harmonious as it has been.'

'Um…ok?  I- I guess, I can just trust my friends.'

'Excellent.  Now, before I say anything else Weasley, remember this.  Love is a powerful weapon in the hands of both good and evil.'

This only confused Ron a bit more, but he figured he would just file it away until he was old enough that he thought he could figure it out. Even though that might not be till he was older than Dumbledore.

The Hat just laughed at his thoughts and said to him.

'Yes, once again there is another Weasley to sort.  Well as I see, it had better be…'

"GRYFFINDOR!"

When Ron ran down to the Gryffindor Table, one of the other students leaned over to him and said.  "That was one of the fastest sortings I have ever seen."

"What do you mean?"  Ron was truly confused.

"You were up there for less than three seconds."

Ron looked at that hat for quite a few seconds, but within a minute the Headmaster had called out the food and Ron dug into it.  Ron thought about the hat during the meal, but Harry's scar was hurting him and it made Ron forget all about the Hat.

He never bothered to think about it again for a long long time.
