"You knew, they wouldn't make it in time," Mac hissed out.
"Sarah."
"You knew!"
Clay looked at his feet. "Yes."
"You bastard," Mac said before she pulled her right arm back delivered a punch to make the Navy SEAL behind her proud to see.
Clay fell to the ground as the coffee cups dropped from his hands, spilling all over the place. When he hit the ground the force of the punch he scooted across the floor a good three feet. Once he stopped both hands flew to the bloody mess on his face. He didn't utter a word as Mac, AJ, and Kershaw stood above him.
Mac's jaw clenched as she watched Clay stare at her. Clay moved his gaze from the woman, who showed her hatred for him. He looked at AJ who was hiding a smirk. "You might want to get that looked at, Clay. I think it's broken."
"You should really be more careful there's a coffee spill on the floor," Kershaw commented.
Mac turned around and walked towards the window again. Kershaw walked toward the couch and AJ remained towered over Clay. Clay slowly stood up one hand on his nose. He moved like he was going to try to talk to Mac.
"I wouldn't try it, Webb," AJ warned. "Get your nose looked at, and then pray Harm makes it out of this. Because if he doesn't, there isn't a cover secretive enough to save your sorry ass."
Clay looked at AJ, turned around and hit the elevator button. The door opened and he walked into it. He tried to look at Mac, but her back was to him.
2:33 AM
Mac remained at the window as AJ and Kershaw watched her and door to the operating room. The door to the room opened and a doctor walked out with his hands together. He looked out into the room. "Mrs. Rabb."
Mac caught the name and moved towards him as AJ and Kershaw stood next to her. "Yes. How is he?"
The doctor gave her a brief smile. "He put up a good fight. The one bullet grazed the side of his chest and he has a few stitches there. The one we were most concerned with was in his upper chest. It hit approximately one inch above his heart. With both shots he was very lucky. An inch lower or an inch higher and we would have had a different discussion."
Mac paled slightly at those last words. "He's okay?"
"He's in recovery and then we're going to move him to an observation room," the doctor told her.
"When can we see him?" Kershaw asked.
"Mrs. Rabb will be able to see him tonight, once he's moved into observation. Later tonight or tomorrow morning he will be moved into a regular room. Once there he can have the regular amount of visitors." The doctor informed Kershaw, before he turned back to Mac. "You're husband's going to be out of it for a while, but everything will be fine tomorrow."
Mac sighed in relief. "I'll feel better once I see him."
"When will that be?" AJ asked.
"Within the next twenty minutes." The doctor told them. "If you have any questions, please feel free to ask the nurse. If you'll excuse me."
"Thank you, Doctor," Mac said giving his hand a shake.
He smiled at her, then the other two men and left the waiting room.
AJ smiled at Mac as he thought about the words Mrs. Rabb and husband, but now was not the time to ask about those words. "I'm presuming you won't be in on Monday, Colonel."
Mac looked at AJ and tried to stream together a thought. "I don't think I will be, Sir."
Kershaw looked at AJ. "I think Colonel MacKenzie has everything covered now. I'm going to check on Webb. Care to join me, AJ?"
AJ looked at Mac and noticed the tension in her shoulders had left. "I think I will, Dewayne. I mean someone has to tell the hospital staff about the mess on the floor."
Kershaw didn't hide his smirk. "Colonel, tell Mr. Rabb I will speak with him tomorrow afternoon."
"Yes, Sir," Mac said before the two men walked to the elevators.
