Harm sat on the back porch of his Grandmother's farm and watched the darkness in the sky pass over him.  His thoughts were on the woman who was four hours away with his heart.

The door swung open and Frank walked out. "If your mother sees you, she'll kill you because you don't have a jacket on."

Harm chuckled. "Yeah." He glanced at his stepfather.  "And Grandma will yell at you for not bringing me one."

"Hell, Son, I don't even have a coat.  You're mother gets cold too easily."

"I remember the temperature would drop below 80 and she wanted to turn the heat on in the house."

"Yeah, but we love her anyways."

"Yeah, we do." Harm smiled.

Frank sat down in the wicker chair and looked at his stepson as his view was still in the sky. "You miss her."

"Who?" Harm asked.

"Mac."

"I asked her to come."

"I know."

"You know," Harm asked.

Frank decided to let his son know. "I was outside the hospital room when you asked."

Harm moved to the other whicker chair. "What else did you hear?"

"I know enough to know you two are married," Frank paused. "You want to talk about it?"

"Grandma already tried."

"Really what did Sarah ask?" Frank wondered.

Harm sighed. "She's with Mom that Mac and I belong together. She just told me to get my head out of my six, but not so nicely."

Frank chuckled. "Sarah does have a way with words."

"Yeah, but she didn't help much.  I think that is the first time ever she couldn't solve one of my problems."

"Well, I don't admit to knowing everything, but I do know a thing or two about women," Frank informed the younger man.

"Really?"

"I did land your mother." Frank gave Harm a playful grin.

Harm took a deep breath. "It was an accidental marriage, but I've always loved her.  She wants an annulment and I've decided that I don't want one."

"Have you told her this?"

"Not in so many words."

Frank took a second or two. "I'm going to let you in on something.  The things in life, that we want and need the most, are not always the easiest things to get.   There are times, when you need to fight to get what you want.  If you truly want to have Mac, you need to fight for her.  Tell her what you want and that you will have her.  Don't let her decide what your future is going to hold.  Just take her and don't let her go."

Harm thought about Frank's words and realized the man had just given him a plan.

"How do you know it will work?"

"A long time ago, I meet a wonderful woman and there was something standing in my way of getting her.  I fought and got her."

"What was standing in the way?"

"A stubborn ten year old boy," Frank informed Harm.

Harm chuckled at his words. "Me."

"You."

"I was pretty mean to you."

Frank let out a good old fashion belly laugh. "You were a pain in the ass, Son."

Harm joined him in the laugh. "But she was worth it."

"She is worth it," Frank corrected him and then turned serious. "And so is Mac."

"Thanks, Frank," Harm said to the man who he had a new understanding with.

"No thanks needed, Harm.  That's why I'm here," Frank fatherly said to his son.
