Chapter 7: Ever After
Lily walked over to the Gryffindor table. She took a deep breath and sat beside him.
"Hi, James," she said quietly. She fumbled for words. "Thanks for your Christmas present...I really love it. It's adorable," she paused to look at him. He had turned and was watching her carefully.
He finally nodded. "Your welcome. Thanks for your present too...that's a really nice pen..."
"Well, see, James, there's this thing I've got to talk to you about. I got this necklace...and I was wondering if you...if you, um, knew who sent it."
James nodded. "I did."
Lily felt her eyes sting with tears. "James, you shouldn't have done any such thing. Besides, I thought you were having a great time with Arabella!"
James shrugged. "I felt like it," he said, ignoring the last question.
Lily sighed sadly.
"Lily, how's it going with you and Diggory?"
"Not too good, James," she answered sorrowfully.
James's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Amos is always gloating about it," he said. "Oh, did Jess tell you?"
"Tell me what?" asked Lily.
"She didn't tell you? Well, I'd better let her tell you..." he grinned.
Lily just shrugged in response.
Suddenly, James got serious again. "Lily, there're something that's been bugging me since we...stopped the charade...what was that dream?"
Lily sighed. "I still not ready to tell you that James," and before she could say anything more, she felt cool lips on hers. He cupped his hands around her face and kissed her, hard. But then he pulled back reluctantly. Lily whispered, "What was that for?"
"I love you," he answered.
Again silent tears spilled forth and James pulled her into a hug. "What's the matter, Lily?" He slowly caressed her back as she sobbed into his shoulder. "I'm sorry."
Lily pulled back. "It's that dream, James. I'm sorry. Boy, I think I'd better go talk to Amos." She left quickly and marched towards Amos who was watching her with his mouth open.
"Amos, we've got to talk. We're through. It's not you, it's me...I love someone else, so I don't think this is fair to you. Sorry, here's your bracelet." She said all this very quickly and rushed out, all the while watched by a very amused James.
Soon, James followed after her. She had already disappeared into the common room where, she was whispering something in Jess's ear.
"Jess!" squealed Lily.
"What?" asked Jess, laughing.
"I broke up with Amos!" she announced happily.
"You're happy?" asked Jess, although she wasn't really surprised.
"Yeah!" said Lily perkily.
"Guess what?"
"What?"
"Somebody's here to see you," Jess pointed towards James who was standing in the corner, watching them. Lily smiled and walked towards him. Before she could say anything, James pulled her into another kiss. It was intense and heartfelt.
James pulled out with his breathing a bit ragged. "I love you," he whispered into her neck as he kissed it.
Lily ruffled his hair. "I love you too, James," she whispered.
