Golden morning rays shone brightly outside, but inside of Philip's room there was no sign that it was even light outside. A heavy curtain covered the window next to his bed, blocking the strong light out of the dark room. The only source of light inside his room was a pale night lamp that glowed alone in the black, not illuminating anything but a spot on the wall.
Philip grumbled in his sleep and turned over, almost falling out of his bed. He moved a little more and fell, frantically grabbing the curtain as he did. His eyes hurt painfully for a moment, unused to the bright light that came inside without the curtains. He grabbed around until he found what he was looking for; an alarm clock. He tried to see the time, but found it impossible under the blinding light of the sun.
He got up, still holding on to the clock, and moved to a darker corner in the room. 10:54 he thought oh, no! I was supposed to wake up three hours ago!!!
He threw his alarm clock on the bed and rushed down the stairs. "MOM! DAD! WHERE ARE YOU!?" His voice boomed around the house. He moved into the kitchen, hoping to find them there. Instead he found an unusual note attached to the fridge with a small orange magnet. He tore it out of the magnet's grip and read it carefully.
Philip,
Your father and I went out to work, sorry we didn't wake you up to say good-bye, but we knew you had been packing all night and neither of us wanted to wake you up. I packed some food for the trip, I left it in the fridge. Good luck and DON'T LEAVE YOUR BROTHER BEHIND!
Philip opened the refrigerator door and looked inside. Wrapped in a neat package his mom had wrapped food for two that would last a few days. He sighed and took it out, placing it on the table just as a small boy came down the stairs.
"What time 's it" he asked, rubbing sleep from his eyes. Philip looked at him, surprised that he didn't know. "where's mom 'n dad?"
"Mom and dad left already, something we should do soon. Did you pack yesterday?" The young boy nodded. "Go get changed and bring everything down here. I'll go get myself ready."
"We're goin' on a pokemon journey... we're going to 'ave a lot of fun!" Philip rolled his eyes. Alexis, his nine year old brother, was the worst company he could ever ask for in a journey. He didn't like his brother at all, he felt that it was unfair that he had to wait until he was fourteen to go on a journey, and his brother got to go at nine. Any conversations he had with his brother were one sided, he guessed it was because Alexis idolized him in a way and repeated things Philip had already said in the past.
A thought suddenly stuck Philip as he thought of what his brother had said, he had prepared everything for his pokemon journey; everything but a pokemon!
