Heart of a Youko ~Anika
Disclaimer: Even though it makes sense, I can't promise this is true. It's
not, mostly. And the term 'youko' does no t belong to me. Sue, and
you'll be on my list of people to visit. (See Stanza 18)
-
You know my name,
My shirts and jeans,
My long red hair,
My mind as a human,
-
But is that all you see?
You have forgotten, mortal,
To look beneath my appearance.
For I am a Youko.
-
I'm cunning by nature,
Merciless by habit,
Ruthless by custom,
Heartless by choice.
-
I can play any system,
Crack any code,
Hack any computer,
Any secret withhold.
-
I'm as good with a weapon,
As I am with my mind.
Plants are my specialty;
I will slay anything in my path.
-
So why, you ask,
Do I protect the innocent?
Protect those, who care not for me,
Only for the human body I've acquired?
-
I don't know,
Need I a reason?
I once sought to kill
Those very beings.
-
They are fools.
Helpless fools.
Arrogant and pointless beings,
That's who they are.
-
Yet I will fight,
All the same.
Not for them,
But for me.
-
For me.
I'll fight for that.
My strength and skill,
Myself.
-
That's what I'll tell you.
What you will believe.
But, once again, you have forgotten,
To look beneath appearances.
-
I fight and slay,
For my own purposes.
And for you,
Who taught me I had no choice.
-
But to trust you.
So I did.
And you proved that it was...
Not falsely given.
-
But that makes no difference.
The most I will do,
Is give you fair warning,
The tables may turn.
-
Turn upside down.
For you at least.
For I may go back to who I was...
And still am.
-
And someday you'll wish,
You'd killed me,
When you'd had the chance.
But, by then, your chance will be gone.
-
Gone with the wind,
That carries the flames,
That lights my path
As I make my escape.
-
On one of those days,
I will have slain many people.
You know the evil in my veins,
Can never be drained.
-
But, still you persist,
So I fight at your side.
Because you let me,
Because I have no choice.
-
And as we fight,
I realize something,
You, you're different.
I now see your mind.
-
You know well enough,
As I have said before,
That the darkness in my blood;
It can't be extinguished.
-
You, you don't try.
You accept who I am.
Not minding the darkness,
Not minding the hatred.
-
But it doesn't matter,
I will act no different.
Show no sign,
Of weakness or emotion.
-
Because I am a youko.
You can't change it,
As no one can.
And you don't try.
-
Perhaps it's respect,
Of your endurance;
Perhaps it's the knowledge,
That you understand.
-
Were you any smarter you'd know,
That you don't know everything.
But there is one thing you do know,
The answer to the question you ask so many times.
-
Why do I protect?
Fight for the helpless?
Don't start the act,
I think you know the reason.
-
You know the reason.
It's the same as yours,
But only in some ways.
For, it is the reason, of a youko.
