Janie Mane, Head of the Department of Animagies, fired!

Yes, the rumors are true. She was fired two nights ago. A fellow worker overheard a conversation she had with someone.

"Sitting in the dark they were." She commented. "I was jus' passing by, I needed her to sign a paper for me. When I raised my hand to knock, I heard a nervous young man say that he would give her fifty galleons if she told no one he was an anamagi. She had caught him, I assumed, and right I was as I later found out. Our Jane said no, stubbornly. But he forced a yes out of her with 100 galleons and the deal was sealed."

Our source requested not to be revealed, but she did go and reveal the secrets of Jane Mane to the Minister of Magic, Cornelius Fudge. He questioned her under veritasm, where she revealed that she had in fact, taken the bribe. When the affect of the of veritasm wore off, Ms. Mane made a huge show. She said that no one knew how sick her poor mother was, currently residing in St. Mungo's and how she desperately needed the money.

Fudge believed this, and decided to let her continue working if she turned in the 100 galleons and the person who gave them to her. She readily handed over the galleons. Jane said she would track down the person and bring him in tomorrow.

Later, after some excellent research by yet another fellow worker, the Minister of Magic was appalled to find out he had been fooled. No family member of Jane Mane was in St. Mungo's. A drop of veritasm, and a few hours later, Jane Mane was fired on account of accepting a bribe and lying to the Minister of Magic. This leaves only one mystery unsolved, we never did find out the true identity of the illegal anamagi.
