Far away, beneath this same dark sky,
under this very same sad moon
he wanders aimlessly,
his thoughts somewhere – and with someone – else.

Loneliness pierced him,
like a thousand razors cutting
through the soft flesh
of sweet love and bitter longing.

Her face rose before him
her eyes twinkled bright
holding a promise unfulfilled
of a love that held no hope.

How long has it been?
How many roads had he trod?
How many sad songs had he heard?
How many unseen tears had he shed?

How many moonlit nights
spent gazing up into the sky?
How many solitary days
spent wandering strange terrain?

How many sleepless nights
filled with fitful dreams?
And how many dreams
filled with images of her?

He lost count;
just as he lost all hope
of ever taking that road
back into her waiting arms.

"I ask for your forgiveness,
as I wander alone with memories of you;
I pray for your peace
as my heart cries 'I love you.'"
