Title: Still worth it… (ehm, sorry 'bout the lousy title)
Author: Villemo (villemo112@hotmail.com)
Disclaimer: Don't own them; wish I did; don't sue.
Summary: "She's not coming back" it's a
statement, not a question. She sighs, sits down; and answers it anyway "No. She
isn't."
Missing scene from Heroes part 2, Sam & Daniel talk. Some S/J implied.
AN: I was kinda miffed at the lack of any kind of
Sam/Daniel interaction in Heroes part 2, so I decided to write the/a missing
scene myself.
Hope you like!

[Still worth it…]
"She's not coming back" it's a
statement, not a question.
She sighs, sits down; and answers it anyway
"No. She isn't."
"She's never coming back."
there's bewilderment in his voice now.
"no." again.
"I just…" he shakes his head.
"-can't believe it." she finishes.
"yes. No." him this time. "I just never
thought it would be- I mean- I always knew that something could potentially
happen to one of us. someday. But- I kinda figured it would be me, or you, or
Teal'c, or…" his head turn to look at her "just not her" a sigh. "you know?"
"Yes." she knows.
There is silence. then:
"I gave him the tape."
"what?" confusion.
"I gave him the tape. The one with-"
"why?" accusation bubbles
"because. It's her." He looks at her; his trademark expression of determination
on his face. "It showed her. who she- " a pause "-was."
Her brow furrows.
"mmm" - The noncommittal noise escapes her lips.
She doesn't know. she can't know. she hasn't seen.
And she doesn't want to.
"okay" her eyes meet his. acquittal. In an unvoiced sentence /'if you say so. I
trust you'/ , passing between battered hearts.
They think. Look away.
"How is Jack?"
"better. he went home."
"good."
She closes her eyes; and leans her head back against the wall behind her.
Lets it rest against the grey solid surface as she gathers her courage, then:
"I was so scared…"
It's no more than a sigh really, a
breath of words…but it seems to echo around the almost empty room.
A hand searches out for hers, finds, grabs hold, gives warmth, and she
continues.
"when he was lying there- I just. I didn't even think. I just ran to him. It
was-" the words are inadequate. they're missing. they can't cover how it was.
how it is.
"I know." he says simply.
"-and then I heard your voice on the radio and-"
He closes his eyes. An arm finds its way behind her shoulders. He relives in
Dolby surround.
"I know…" He does.
She leans against him, and a sigh escapes her lips she asks the question…
"how is this our lives? How did this become my life? – Losing people. never having people…"
"-helping people, saving people…" he continues.
She quiets.
"do you still think it's worth it?"
he hesitates, but…
"yes."
