Thomas walked slowly home after a particularly exhausting day at the academy. As usual, he was thinking of Peter and swing. He still couldn't believe that he'd done it. He'd betrayed a friend, and gotten him sent to a concentration camp. Why? The reason he'd had before now seemed pointless. Thomas sighed. His parents didn't know that he stayed in the HJ for them. They didn't know that if he quit they'd have everything taken away from them. They didn't know anything.
Angrily, he kicked a stone from his path, sending it ricocheting into a wall. Why the hell should he stay for the sake of people who didn't give a damn about him?!? At that moment he decided something. Tomorrow, he was leaving. He didn't care if he was thrown in a CC; it was what he deserved after how he betrayed his friends. Maybe he would see Peter again! Oh, how much he missed him!
Peter had been his best friend since forever. They had always done everything together. Hell, Peter was the reason Thomas joined the HJ to begin with. He could've never forgiven himself if he'd let Peter go through that alone. Remembering one of the first days they were there, Thomas chuckled, mirthlessly.
~*Flashback*~
They had been in gym class, when Emil, the swing kid turned HJ who had beaten Avrid, asked for a volunteer to help him demonstrate how to box. Thomas had immediately raised his hand, wanting to teach the guy what the punishment was for hurting one of his friends, especially someone like Avrid, who had no chance of defending himself. Emil had smiled, saying he was glad to see a new recruit so eager. Thomas had quickly gone up to the ring and gotten ready.
At first, his former friend had quickly pounded him to pulp. But then he'd gotten cocky and thought Thomas beat, so he turned around to address the class. Seizing the moment, Thomas had gotten to his feet and attacked.
The two had traded blows fairly equally, until Thomas' weariness from his previous beating had proved to be his undoing. Emil continued to pound him, until Peter had been unable to stand it anymore and had rushed in to pull the HJ of him. Thomas collapsed and felt cool fingers on his face, cradling him, asking if he was all right. Emil had walked out, but Thomas got up and started singing "It Don't Mean a Thing". Emil hadn't been too pleased. Falling back, his mission completed, Thomas had felt Peter catch him and ease him down. Whispering calming words, his friend gently tried to wash the blood away.
~*End Flashback*~
Sighing, he continued to walk to his house. The decision to leave the HJ was final. He owed this to Peter and to himself. Smiling grimly, he began to plan.
