A/N: Yay update ness!! Something I should mention about this chapter...
Gonna be really confused at the refrence to the character 'Nikkole' if you
haven't read DBXLV. And even then, confusion may arise, seeing as I
haven't finished and explained. Basically they were very in love with each
other not so long ago... but things didn't quite work out. At all. I
meant to give you guys a longer chapter because of having to wait so long...
but meh. *shrugs*
On to the story!

Goku gazed out of a window, not blinking often, and watched the sun set, and black took over the city. He felt a deep-rooted depression each time Gohan let out a moan of agony. How well he knew his pain... If he only hadn't gone through the same thing, it might not be so bad. But he had. He could feel it each time Gohan got the strength to cry out in anguish. And what hurt the worst was that he could only sit there and do nothing. There was no villain to slay, no danger, nothing but the virus. Goten had come in long ago, along with Gochi, and sat by Gohan's side. Gochi had fallen asleep, both of her tiny hands clasped around Gohan's adult one, while Goten could do nothing but stare at him. He hadn't touched him since he walked in.
Chi-Chi came in and out of the room, moping about, finding comfort in pacing. She would say nothing as well, and never stayed long, for she couldn't bear the sight of her son in so much pain. Goku might have stared out of the window all night...
"Umm, excuse me?" A timid voice called out, one he had never heard before. He turned slowly to face the new person. It was a pretty young girl with medium length black hair and bright blue eyes. She wore a baggy t-shirt and spandex shorts. He could only blink a response. "Is Gohan here? I'm a friend of his, Videl. A lady in blue hair said I could find him here..." She asked, fiddling her fingers nervously. Goku looked to Gohan, who was lying in his bed. She gasped and ran over, not believing her eyes. "GOHAN! Oh no, what's wrong with him?!"
Gohan's eyes fluttered open briefly at hearing Videl's voice, but couldn't keep them open. He moaned deeply and squirmed. She could almost hear him screaming on the inside, almost feel his pain...
"...His heart is failing..." Goku said quietly. "A virus is attacking it..." He was interupted before he could say anything more.
"WHY ON EARTH IS HE HERE?!?! HE SHOULD BE AT A HOSPITAL, WHERE THEY CAN TAKE BETTER CARE OF HIM!!! YOU'RE HIS FATHER RIGHT?!?! TAKE CARE OF HIM!!!!" She screamed, tears coming forth. Goku simply looked out of the window again.
"The hospital wouldn't have what he needs yet,"
Videl wanted to yell and scream out all her frustrations on him, but realized it would be futile. Instead, she sat down by Gohan, opposite to Goten and Gochi. She wanted desperately to reach out and touch him, in an impulsive emotional way, to let him know she was here and that she cared, but her pride held her back. She was awkward showing love to the opposite gender. She almost slapped herself. LOVE?!? That COULDN'T be what she was feeling... Right? She narrowed her eyes, trying to keep her composure.
"Gohan..." She started. He stopped his squirming, seeming to respond to her voice. "I... I don't know if you can hear me... But..." She paused. What should she say to someone who is dying? "I want you to know..." She finally gave in, and reached out to grab his free hand, the one not occupied by Gochi. "I'm here for you, and you gotta beat this, 'kay?" She squeezed his hand tight, her bottom lip trembling from attempting to hold back tears. What the daughter of Hercule didn't expect was him to squeeze back, lightly as he did. Was it simply a reflex? She blinked though tears, allowing them to run down her face. A feeling of complete terror and consolation came at once. Terror in fear of losing him, consolation in knowing that he was trying to hang in there.
"Vi..." She heard him murmur. Astounded, she squeezed his hand tighter. "Videl..." He suddenly let out a terrifying scream, and began thrashing about, waking up Gochi and catching Goku's attention. Goten got up and backed away. Videl stood and clasped her hands on his.
"Gohan!" She cried. Goku ran over to help control him, but Videl's approach seemed to be working better. "It's alright Gohan! I'm here! Please calm down, wasting your energy isn't going to make it better!" While Gohan calmed his thrashing, he couldn't help screaming in agony. He squeezed her hand tighter, his strength making her cringe in pain. Normally she would pull away from something causing such harm, but if it relieved Gohan in the least, she would go through it. Goku noticed this quickly, and wondered why Gohan hadn't told them about this girl earlier. Bulma ran in just then.
"I've got some medicine here! I finally managed to break it down to the specific ingredients--"
"Just GIVE it to him!" Goku howled, flaring frusteration etched in his face. Hearing his father scream stressed Gohan out, making him resort back to writhing and yelling.
"Gohan, Gohan! It's okay!" Videl whispered. "Please don't scream!" She aimed at Goku and Bulma.
Bulma, still surprised that Goku had taken that tone with her, was equally caught off guard to find this girl telling them what to do. Deciding now was not the time to argue, she came over and gave a bit of the medicine to Gohan. Videl calmed him down enough to take it. A few more moments of pain filled screams passed, and finally, Gohan slipped into complete unconsciousness, his hand falling from Videl's. His head fell to one side as he slept peacefully, his heavy breathing the only sound in the room at last. Videl rubbed her throbbing hand, just now realizing how badly it was crushed. Nothing was broken (she hoped), but it was swelling a bit. They all sat down, not saying anything for awhile.
"Goten, could you and Gochi go find Mom?" Goku asked quietly. Silently, the two youngest Son children quickly left the room. Another moment of silence, and Videl shifted uncomfortably. Bulma narrowed her eyes at her. There was an uneasy silence in the room. They all sat there in the stillness of the air, all thinking about different things, Bulma on the edge of talking, Videl's thoughts in a puddle of confused and conflicting emotion, and Goku... It was impossible to tell whether he was relieved or worried by this turn of events, his posture slumped in a way, and his face set just so that it could be interpreted either way.
"I'm suprised that you were able to console him so easily..." Bulma stated after a moment or so of this akward silence. Videl smiled nervously, not even looking up to Bulma.
"...Which I find rather odd..." The door open swiftly as Chi-Chi said this, making her way in, sitting down next to Gohan, stroking his cheek with her hand. "Have you been seducing my son, young lady?"
Her eyes widened in horror merely at the suggestion. "WHAT?! Of course not!!" She exclaimed. "We... We don't even know each other that well!"
"Then why did you let him hurt your hand so bad?" Goku asked quietly, but not in a very accusing way. It was simply because of curiosity. Videl didn't reply.
"Oh my Kami! Why didn't you say something!" Bulma exclaimed, getting to her feet, taking attention away from Chi-Chi's suggestion. Goku made eye contact with Chi-Chi, and they both smiled warmly as Bulma fussed over Videl. Nothing needed to be said between the two, but it appeared as if Gohan was finally getting over Nikkole.

Videl sighed deeply on her way back to her house. She didn't leave until around eleven, eventually Chi-Chi had to insist that she go home and get sleep; it was a school night after all. 'Like I'm going to get much sleep while Gohan is so sick...' She thought bitterly. It was raining hard, it fitted her mood perfectly. She wondered if he was going to really be okay, after seeing him writhe in so much pain...
To her horror, a tear ran down her cheek. Aghast, she wiped it away quickly. 'I don't care about him that much... Do I?' Double checking, she realized just how much she enjoyed her time with the supposed bookworm. He was so bold, enough so to not be afraid of her, even though she could probably beat him down easily. At the same time, all of that only hid a much more sensitive side to this boy... He always masked this compassionate side, and subconsciously, she had been searching for it. The times they spent talking and laughing... She recalled each moment with overwhelming happiness and regret. 'This can't be the end of the memories... It seems as if there are so many more waiting to happen...' She looked outside at the storm exploding around her. 'Gohan, I'm not going to let you get beat by this thing, I'm going to be there by your side though all of it...' She ignored how corny her thoughts sounded to her more prideful side, because it was her raw, true emotion, and she wasn't going to deny it any further, even though it made no sense to her. She wasn't ready to label this new emotion, though, and decided to wait it out before making such rash conclusions. She pulled up to her father's mansion, and got out of the car.
The rain pelted her hard, but she didn't care. Looking around, she wondered if this was something like what Gohan was seeing in his sleep right now. Was he dreaming of a cold, rainy night with no sunlight? She felt herself want to cry more as she felt herself become consumed by the night. Did he feel isolated and unloved? Or was it worse? Was he not only alone, but writhing on the ground in pain while it rained around him? She fell to her knees, feeling herself tremble not from the cold, but from unbearable images of Gohan in such suffering. If only she could take it away! Her father always tried to make it seem as if money could do everything, but he was wrong. If money couldn't take Gohan's pain away, then it could not buy happiness. For that was the only thing that could even bring a smile to her right then.
It took a long while for her to get the strength to get up and walk inside, away from the pain. In doing this, she almost felt like she was abandoning Gohan... She made way slowly to her room. As she undressed for bed, she noticed her untouched homework on her desk... The reason for her worrying about him in the first place.
"Some things are more important than numbers..." She murmured, dropping onto her bed, tears her only comfort. She promised herself she would visit Gohan first thing in the morning, even though there was school.
