Chapter 1
A horrible virus has struck the entire Earth in one quick movement and the casualties are mind-boggling. The virus has the ability to reanimate the recently deceased that have been infected. The virus spreads by the bites that the reanimated creatures inflict on the living.
Is this the first time that his virus has ever occurred? Not even close. A small settlement in early America became infected and this is their story.
"It is the work of the Devil!" A man at the head of the room shouted out loud over everyone else. Most of the town's people had gathered in the church and the large and heavy doors had been boarded up. Children sat crying, women were asking men what to do, and the men had baffled looks on their faces.
"It is impossible to think of. Goodie Tucker was with the dead." A woman said to no one in particular. "I saw him die. I saw him die." She repeated it over and over again.
"Listen to me people!" George Johnson said at the front of the room. He stood up on a platform that made him slightly taller than everyone else. "We cannot lose our sanity. We must remain calm." No one seemed to be paying attention to him.
"I said listen to me!" He said it again with much more authority and this time everyone stopped. All eyes were on him now and only a few murmurs escaped the crowd. "There are three of those hell sent creatures outside and this is no time for us to come unraveled", he said as the crowd started to calm down.
"There must be something we can do to save ourselves from this fate." George said. "We have four knives here and that should seize the beast."
"We must pray!" A man yelled out and the attention of all the people was quickly taken away from George and the chaos quickly replaced the peace that had taken the room over.
One of the many stained glass windows suddenly busted with the sound of an explosion and colored shards shot out in all directions. The three zombies that lurked outside were quickly trying to force their way in through the tiny opening.
A woman standing too close to the window when it shattered was bleeding from a large piece of glass that had gotten lodged in her back. A child that still stood next to the opening was crying as one of those things grabbed him up and pulled him outside in one swift motion.
A blood curling scream sounded from outside and then it was replaced but a bubbling gurgle sound. "Jesus, save us!" A woman screamed out.
Two of the zombies that weren't still feeding on the child outside started to try at the window again. This time they made a success and were quickly running after the innocent people inside. George watched from his podium as the men and women he lived with stated to die.
The horrible monsters sank their teeth into people and ripped away chunks of bloody flesh. Shouts and screams filled the church until there were no other sounds. George looked at the window just in time to see the small child and the third monster crawl through the window.
"God forgive me." He said to himself. He reached next to him and grabbed a lit candle. The flame almost went out because of how quick he moved it over to a silk curtain. He closed his eyes and lit up the cloth and it caught quickly. The flames licked up the walls, leaving black burnt trails as it went.
George was soon consumed in the fire, as was most of the room. The monsters seemed to fall at the heat of the fire. As George fell to the ground he got a final glimpse that his plan had worked and the beast had been contained.
Little did George Johnson know but he had saved the entire world from a disaster that could have ended life all together. He stopped the end of the world, for the time being at least.
