Then suddenly Arwen woke up to emptiness and to death. The place beside her was empty. No strong arms were wrapped around her. There was no warm body snuggling against her, just the cold emptiness. A tear rolled down her cheek as she realized there never would be again. For he was dead. Aragorn, king of Gondor, was dead. Her hope was gone. She remembered the words she had spoken to Aragorn, long ago.
"Our love, an eternal love, shall be the end of me. I could wish for nothing else." This was true. For now she longed for death to come to her. For she had no reason to live. Each breath was like an arrow piercing her heart as she remembered the moments they had shared together.
She screamed in anguish. Never again would she kiss his lips. Never again would she wake up to his singing. Never again would she be happy. For her heart went with Aragorn. She sobbed into her pillow the whole night, until sleep came and captured her. Her dreams were just as bitter, for she dreamed of him, and when she woke, he was gone, never to return.

Arwen danced in the grass, twirling in the moonlight. Her hair spun out behind her, her purple dress spinning at her ankles. She felt so free, so happy. The soft grass tickled her feet, as she danced to the music only heard in her head. Her eyes twinkled, and a smile was on her face. Oblivious to the world around her, she did not sense Aragorn coming. He snuck behind her, and grabbed her outstretched arm.
She gasped and exclaimed, "You're back!" He only smiled and started to dance with her. They danced the night away, glad to be in each other's company. To long had they been parted, they never wanted to leave each other's company.

Arwen cried out again. Why would not death take her? Her fate decided long ago, because of her love. A love now lost to time. She cried his name out into the night. Why would he not return to her? Why did he die? Why did he leave her to this torture? The questions reeled in her mind as she gave into the exhaustion.
