Lizzie picked up the phone and called Miranda for the umpteenth time.
"Miranda, we have a code orange! Code orange!"
"Huh? What's that asked Miranda.
"Godo is gay. And he's 'with' my brother!"
Lizzie heard a sob on the other end of the phone.
"What's wrong?" asked Lizzie. "It's bad, but it's not that bad!"
"Lizzie, I like Gordo."
"Of course you do! We're best friends!"
"Not in that way. I like like him."
"As more than a friend?" whispered Lizzie.
"Yes."
"It's okay, Miranda. I understand."
Miranda's voice turned hard as gravel.
"No, Lizzie. You don't understand. You always get everything you want! Am I supposed to always be happy with the leftovers?!"
"I like Gordo, too, you know," said Lizzie softly.
"Of course Lizzie! Don't you see what you have? I hate you!" roared Miranda.
"I thought we were best friends."
"Not anymore."
Lizzie felt she now understood the phrase 'trouble in la la land.'
