Author's Note: Oh man, since Chapter Four I've had only one review per
chapter. Come on! My story can't be that bad! Or maybe it's because it's
got no romance in the genre? Ah, whatever. I've already started this so I
may as well finish it. To anyone still interested, here's Chapter Seven.

Chapter Title: The Final Battle Begins
Upper-earth Atmosphere
Three objects sped toward each other without being aware of it. One was a metal pod, plummeting toward the ground at great velocity. The others, two spacecraft, shooting toward space. The distance between the projectiles was closing rapidly.
Suddenly, from within the two spacecraft, alarms started to blare. The occupants of the vehicles looked at their display screens.
"Something's headed toward us." 5 reported over the radio from the rear seat of SHARC One.
"Yeah, and it's closing fast!" 30C yelled from SHARC Two's rear seat.
1 and 274, the pilots of the two spacecraft, quickly rolled their craft to the side. One to the left, the other to the right. A split-second later, a flaming metal pod sped by them with terrific speed.
"What in the blazes was that?" asked 1.
"Some kind of Nerd weapon fired to shoot us down?" 5 suggested.
"No, that wasn't a weapon." 274 said. "I only caught a really quick glimpse of it, but I could've sworn it looked like a landing pod."
"It's probably heading toward the Antarctic base!" 1 realized.
"What can we do?" 30C said. "Long distance communications are under Nerd control so we can't warn the others. And we can't turn back and go back down, these SHARCs are built to fight in space not in the atmosphere."
274 grimaced. "Don't worry, let's just keep on going. I'm sure Numbahs 2, 3, and 4 can handle anything the Nerds send."
But even as he said that, 274 wasn't convinced. 2, 3 and 4 were most likely going to be in trouble, and there wasn't a thing they could do about it. Not a darn thing.
KND Antarctic Base
Numbah 2 fiddled with the base's central controls, trying to figure out which systems were operational and which weren't. Since many of the systems weren't in storage like the SHARC craft, they were frosted over so much that there was no hope of getting them to work. But some, to 2's surprise, still managed to work.
He had managed to reactivate the base's defense grid, but, in the condition they were in, he knew the grid was next to useless. He had also tried to reactivate the base's temperature modulators, but to no avail. It looked like they'll just have to keep their winter wear on.
"Come on, Numbah 4!" 2 heard 3 say. "It's fun."
2 turned to see 3 pulling on 4's sleeve. She had been trying to convince the boy to be her partner in skating across the icy floor of the base. "No thanks, Numbah 3." 4 said as he pulled away from her and sat on a bench. "Ah'd rather not."
"Please?" 3 said in a cutesy voice as she flashed 4 a puppy dog look. "Pretty please?"
"Oh no, no ya don't." 4 said. "That won't work on me. Ah'm immune ta that."
A few minutes later, 3 was dragging 4 along with her as she skated wildly across the floor. 4 was grumbling as 3 dragged him along. "Ah gotta stop lettin' that darn puppy look get ta me." He muttered.
2 smiled in amusement. He knew that 4 had a crush on 3 and, no matter how tough 4 made himself out to be, the blonde boy would never be able to resist the Japanese girl's charms. It was actually kind of fun to watch. 2 looked at the two operatives for a while before he finally looked back to the defense grid's monitor screen.
Just as he looked down, he saw a blip flash rapidly across the screen. It came to a suddenly halt about four miles away from the base. According to the screen's readout's, it had come from the sky. 2 had no idea exactly what it was, but he was sure he knew where it had come from.
2 frowned as he took control of an external camera. He pointed it at the direction the screen indicated and zoomed in. His eyes widened as he saw a metal pod, and something seemed to be crawling out of it...
"Numbah 3! Numbah 4!" he shouted. "We got company!" 4, glad for the excuse to stop being dragged around by 3, went running to 2. 3 skated along as she followed him.
"What is it, 2?" 4 asked.
"Ooh. Is it penguins?" added 3 in a ditzy tone.
"Huh?" 2 said, taken slightly aback by 3's comment. "No, it looks like something from the Nerds."
2 then gestured toward the monitor screen. 4 and 3 took a look.
"Hey, it's a big bug." 3 said.
4 smiled. He cracked his knuckles in anticipation. "Those Nerds sent another darn robot 'ere, eh? That's good, ah was gettin' bored."
Nerd Star Space Station
"The SPIDR pod has landed, Alden." Jane reported. "But it seems that the KND have managed to launch two craft into space."
"What?!" Alden demanded. "Are you telling me that we sent Klaus to attack targets that are already gone?!"
"No," Maria said as she looked intently at her terminal's monitor. "From the craft's design I can deduce that only four operatives are heading for us. The other three are most likely still on Earth."
Alden looked up at the large main monitor. On it was an image from one of the Nerd Star's high-resolution surveillance cameras. The image was of two shark-like spacecraft, which were speeding towards them. Alden looked at the screen for a short while before finally turning back to Jane and Maria.
"Very well," he said. "Klaus can handle the three on their ground base."
He looked up again at the main monitor. "We can handle the ones up here. Prepare the SQUIDs, when those craft come within striking range, release them."
Jane and Maria nodded. The two girls turned to their terminals and started typing commands. Alden looked at the main monitor and smiled. "This ends, Kids Next Door." He said in a squeaky voice. "Right now."
"N-now, now." Allan said, attempting to mimic his older brother. Alden turned toward him.
"Yes, dear brother, now."
SPIDR pod, four miles from the Antarctic Base
Klaus looked at the SPIDR's global positioning system. It appeared that he had landed about four miles away from his target. He smiled, the SPIDR would be able to cross that distance in no time at all.
He reached for the side of his helmet and activated the neuro-cybernetic control system that would allow him to control the robot with his mind. Time to see if it worked. He pictured the SPIDR in his mind, he pictured it crawling out of the pod. To his delight, the robot responded immediately, crawling out of the pod quickly.
"Good, very, very good." He said to himself. He mentally ordered the robot to head for the base. The SPIDR responded instantaneously. Its legs skittered wildly as it ran across the snow with amazing speed. Klaus laughed in amusement as several penguins scrambled out of his way.
"Vatch out, Kids Next Door." He said to no one in particular. "Klaus ist coming for you!"
The SHARCs, en route to the Nerd Star
The SHARCs flew in tight formation as they proceeded toward their target. The two craft's weapons were armed as the nerd space station came into view.
"You know," 30C commented. "I expected a lot of things when I heard about the Nerd Star. But I definitely did not expect that."
"Yeah," 5 agreed over the radio. "There's just something weird about seeing a big old Mississippi river boat floating around in space."
"Be on the look out." 274 warned. "They've probably seen us by now. Who knows what kind of weapon they're gonna use against us."
The two SHARCs continued onward, its occupants watching the Nerd Star intently. Looking for any sign of activity. But the space station gave no sign of it detecting them. It just continued on its orbit, seemingly oblivious to the two craft.
"I don't like this." 1 remarked. "That space station's being too quiet. It should've done something by now."
"Yeah," 274 agreed. "Something doesn't feel right---"
"Look!" 30C suddenly said, interrupting 274. "Something's happening."
As they looked on, the rear paddle wheel of the Nerd Star detached. It seemed to float in space for a while, doing nothing. Then, it split open, out of it came several small objects. The small objects apparently did nothing at first. They just floated in space, stationary. But then, they started moving.
"Kids Next Door," a squeaky voice suddenly said over the SHARCs' radio, startling the operatives. "I congratulate you for managing to get up here, and for evading capture from the WOLF and HORNET units. But I'm afraid I can't let you continue, this is as far as you go!"
Just as the transmission ended, the objects they were observing started to head straight for the two SHARCs...
Nerd Star Space Station
Alden smiled as he finished the transmission to the two KND craft. The Nerd Star's paddle wheel contained sixty SQUID units. He knew the KND couldn't possibly stop them all.
SQUID (Space-borne Quantitative Undersized Intrusion Drone) units were eighteen-inch long robots designed to destroy spacecraft. They had can- shaped bodies with drill-like heads on one end and ten metallic, wire-like tentacles surrounding a rocket booster on the other. They were programmed to drill into enemy craft and to destroy them from within.
"Alden." Jane said. "We have received a transmission from Klaus. He reports that the SPIDR is working perfectly and he is starting his attack on the KND Antarctic Base."
Alden just nodded, he knew Klaus would have no trouble neutralizing the remaining operatives on the ground. He kept his attention focused on the main monitor.
He saw the two KND craft go into different directions. The KND vehicles then started to do evasive maneuvers. But it was all in vain. The sixty SQUID units split into two groups of thirty and proceeded to pursue the craft. Already, some of them were starting to dig into the hulls of their targets.
Alden smiled wickedly. The KND would soon cease to be a threat to him and his team. Victory was within his grasp...
Author's Note: To anyone kind enough to read this story, that was Chapter Seven. Please, I ask you, review this fic. It's really demoralizing to go through all this work and have only one review per chapter to show for it.
