Chapter 2- Hectic mornings
"Matt!" Sarah called up the stairs to her husband. "If you don't get going, the kids are going to be late for school!" She went back into the large kitchen, where her kids were sitting at the table in the breakfast nook, eating their cereal. "Charlie, Jenna, Grandma is going to pick you up after school and you are going to eat dinner at her house, okay? We will pick you up at seven o'clock tonight."
Matt flew into the kitchen, looking at his watch. "We're late, you guys. Go get your backpacks and get in the car, okay? I'm right behind you." He kissed Sarah quickly, and hurried out of the room, out the door, and down to the driveway, where his children were already buckled in, Charlie's social studies project placed in the middle of them. He had made a model of a pyramid, with one side open so you could see all of the rooms inside of it. He had done a really good job of turning his parent's medical tape and gauze into a mummy.
Sarah didn't have to leave for the work for another hour. She was doing rounds this morning at the hospital, and then in the afternoon she was volunteering her time at the local family clinic. She smiled as she rinsed her children's cereal bowls out and put them in the dishwasher. The phone rang, and she picked it up. "Hello?" Sarah said.
"This is Dr. Brewer. Dr. Russell just called, and she was involved in a car accident this morning, nothing too serious, but she has to wait for the police to get there so she can give her report. Would you be able to come in now, rather than in an hour, we could really use you."
Sure, I'll leave right away. I should be there in about 10 minutes, okay?" Sarah replied. After she hung up the phone, she grabbed her bag, and headed out the door.

Lucy was standing in the middle of her kitchen, stirring eggs and trying to make her daughter Kallie's lunch all at once. Kevin entered the room and silently took over the stove. Lucy smiled at him gratefully, as she went back to making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Then suddenly, she gasped, and put her hand on her round stomach. Kevin turned around, a worried look in his eyes, and asked "Luce, what is it, is something wrong?"
Lucy laughed. "No nothing's wrong. The baby moved for the first time." She grabbed his hand, and placed it on her stomach. "There it is again! Did you feel that?" She asked him.
Kevin smiled and kissed his wife. "That was incredible. I love you." He kissed her again.
Lucy smiled back at him. "I love you too."
Kallie came into the room. She climbed on to a chair at the marble counter. "Daddy?" She asked.
"What, sweetheart?"
"Do you know that the eggs are burning?" She giggled, hiding her smile behind her hands. Kevin and Lucy both turned, and saw that the eggs were black and beginning to smoke. Kevin took them off the burner, and put them immediately into the trash. Lucy laughed.
"I guess I should have let you make her sandwich, rather than let you burn breakfast." She said, still laughing.
"No, Mommy!" Kallie protested. "Daddy doesn't know how to make my sandwich. He always puts too much grape jelly on it, and it gets soggy. You make just right." She smiled up at her mother. She was definitely her mother's daughter. Kallie had straight blonde hair that went just past her shoulders, and blue eyes, just like Lucy.
Lucy smiled, and pulled out a box of cereal from the cabinet, along with three bowls. Soon they were all sitting at the counter, eating their new breakfast.
At eight o'clock, Kevin left, taking Kallie with him, so he could drop her off at kindergarten on his way to work. Lucy was cleaning up the kitchen when she heard the crash. She darted up the stairs, and saw her son Jake sitting in the middle of his room, a pile of toys next to him. He had overturned his toy chest. Lucy smiled, grateful that everything was alright. She picked her son up and brought him downstairs.

Cecilia was getting ready to go to work, trying to figure out what to wear, when Simon came up from behind her, put his arms around her, and kissed her neck. "Good morning, honey," he said between kisses.
"Good morning," Cecilia smiled as she turned around, kissing him.
"I was thinking about Christmas, and what to get everyone, and I had an idea for my parents. I wanted to run it by you first, but it is something that I have wanted to do all my life." Simon told her.
Cecilia listened to what he wanted to do. Wow, she thought. "Are you sure?" She asked him. "That is a serious gift you want to give them." She sat on the edge of their bed. Simon sat down next to her.
Simon nodded. "I really need to do this, Cecilia. I want to do this."
Cecilia looked at him. She saw the determination and the need in his eyes. She sighed. "Okay." She said, knowing how important this was to him. "Why don't you talk to your brother and sisters, and see if they want to do this with you." She suggested.
Simon smiled. He was so relieved that she understood. "That is a good idea. I'll call them this weekend. He kissed her, and rubbed her stomach. "I have to go to work. Take care, the both of you." With that, he left the room.
Cecilia went back over to her closet. She still had no idea what to wear.

Mary was sitting nervously in her bathroom, waiting for the timer that was sitting on the counter to ding. She didn't know what she should be feeling right now. She was confused. She and Jason were having problems, and a baby might make things worse. However, it could be what they needed. As much as she loved her son Alex, she missed being around him every day. She wanted more children, but she wasn't sure that she and her husband were ready for a child.
The timer dinged. Nervously, she stood up, and walked to the counter.
