I do not own 7th Heaven, The Buffalo Sabres, or the Philadelphia Flyers.
Author's Note- Sorry, I forgot about Ruthie and Peter. This chapter is mostly about them. And by the way, I am a HUGE hockey fan, especially the Flyers, even though lately they haven't been doing so hot.
Chapter 5- Stressful nights
It was Saturday night, but the Crawford University campus was quiet. On the third floor of Walton Hall, in room 314, Ruthie Camden was studying for her economics final that was on Monday. Supply and Demand, Recessions, Deflation, she was trying to remember all of the definitions of all the concepts and theories she had learned this past semester, but it was no use. She couldn't fit any more knowledge in her brain right now.
Ruthie looked over at her roommate, Maggie Atwood, who was busy memorizing French verbs. She was a language major, and had a French final on Monday, an Italian final on Tuesday, and a Japanese final on Thursday. Maggie was a nice girl from Dallas, Texas, and she hoped to one day be a translator for the United Nations. She was studying Japanese so that she could get an internship at some international electronics company. She and Ruthie were really close; they had been roommates since they were freshmen, nearly four years ago. Peter, Ruthie's fiancé, lived one floor up, in room 425. Maggie was dating his roommate, Nicholas Frazier, who was also from Texas, and was on the pre law track. He had been accepted Yale for law school last week.
Ruthie thought about Peter. She was really excited that in a few months, they would finally be married. They had been dating on and off since they were in middle school. Even though they broke up a few times when they were in high school, they had always found their way back to one another. Ruthie admired the ring he had given her last year. It was really beautiful, it was a square cut diamond set in gold. She loved it, mostly because the man she loved more than any other had given it to her.
There was a knock on the door. Ruthie looked at Maggie, who was so engrossed in her flashcards, didn't even notice the banging on their door. Ruthie opened the door, revealing Peter and Nick on the other side.
Peter kissed her once he came inside. Maggie was still concentrating on her flashcards. "Maggie, we have visitors." She said, finally, Maggie looked up from her verbs. The annoyed look she had on her face instantly vanished once she saw Nick. Leaping up from the floor, she threw her arms around his neck.
"I am so glad to see you!" She exclaimed, giving him a kiss. "I feel like I have been in this room since Thursday night, and I haven't seen anyone but Ruthie all day!"
Peter laughed. "That's why we came down here. We have all been studying all day, and we need to go and blow off a little steam. Nick and I were hoping that you two would take a break and go and get some dinner with us."
Ruthie and Maggie were definitely ready for a break. They grabbed their coats, and all four of them headed out the door.

Mary started to pack her bag for work. She had a flight in two hours, and she needed to leave in a few minutes. She was going to call in sick at first, but then decided against it. She felt that she should go; it would help her to take her mind off of what the doctor had told her earlier. She could feel the tears starting to well up in her eyes again and pushed all thoughts about that out of her mind, and zipped her carry on bag shut.
Jason was watching a hockey game on TV when she entered their living room. He looked up at her and smiled. "The Sabres are getting killed by the Flyers tonight. If they keep this up, they will never go anywhere in the league." He motioned for her to sit down next to him. "What's wrong?" He asked her. "You seem upset, and when I came home from work this afternoon, you were in bed."
Mary forced herself to smile. "I'm just a little tired. I didn't sleep very well last night, and I decided to take a nap, since I have a flight in about two hours. I'm going to have to leave soon, I have just enough time to get a cup of coffee, and then I need to go."
She kissed him and went into the kitchen. Mary knew she should tell him, he had a right to know that they would never have children, but she just couldn't yet. She needed to let it sink in a little more before she told anyone about this. Mary finished her coffee and rinsed her cup out in the sink. She walked back in the living room, gave Jason a quick kiss goodbye, and headed out the door.

An hour later, Peter and Ruthie were walking back to the dorm, hand in hand. Peter looked over at Ruthie, and thought about how beautiful she really was. She had warm brown eyes, and a kind smile. She was beautiful inside and out. He was so lucky to have her in his life.
Ruthie looked over at Peter, who was still staring at her. "What?" She asked him.
"I was just thinking about how lucky I am to have found you." He said.
"I'm lucky too." She leaned over and kissed him. "Let's get back. I still need to study for that economics final I have on Monday."

After her plane landed, Mary drove around Buffalo. She didn't know where she was going, but she didn't want to go to the apartment. She navigated her way through the streets, and ended up on a very familiar one. She made a quick decision, and pulled into a driveway near the middle of the road. A porch light went on as she got out of her car. She walked up to the front door, and before she had the chance to ring the bell, the door opened.
"Mary, what are you doing here?"
