Chapter 4
Sora looked around for Riku, but saw him nowhere.
"Kairi. I promised I would I would take care of you. When you barely survived. I would do anything. But I think Riku will win this time. If he gets you, I'll-" He interrupted himself.
He looked to the sky. He saw a star go out.
"No!" he gasped.
Sora started to cry. To cry for his friends. For Kairi.
***"Wake up Sleepyhead."
The voice was distant. Sora opened his eyes. He saw Kairi.
"Kairi. Are we back home?" he asked.
"Duh. We never left. You told me that you wanted to show me something," Kairi said.
"Yeah. I called it the Secret Place."
Sora led the way to the Secret Place. Inside, Kairi was amazed. They sat down. They drew each other. When they were done, they went outside and sat on the pier.
"Kairi. When we are older. I want to see other worlds. But most of all, I want to share a Paopu Fruit with you," Sora said.
"Me too."
"Kairi. Can I make a promise to you?" asked Sora.
Kairi nodded.
"No matter what happens. If the world gets run over by terrible people or anything else, I'll always take care of you," Sora promised.
"Thank you Sora."***
Sora heard a noise. He shook himself awake.
"It was only a dream," he said to muttered to himself. "I have to keep my promise."
"What promise?"
Sora turned to where the voice was coming from.
"What promise Sora?"
It was Kairi who was talking to him. Sora held out his hand to her.
"Don't be afraid of the darkness Sora. Let it take you away."
"No Kairi. I will protect you. I promised. Where's Riku?" Sora said.
At that moment, Riku appeared.
"Riku!" Sora gasped.
Riku held out his hand. Sora tried to reach it, but he was just to far away. Kairi looked into his eyes.
"Don't be afraid. Believe."
Then they disappeared.
"No! I-"
Sora turned around. Two pairs of yellow eyes were looking at him. Two Anti's stepped out. They were about to attack Sora, when a voice said, "Come my pets."
Sora saw the dark, evil Kairi.
"Sora. Leave us alone. Break your promise. Promises are meant to be broken," she said.
"Not if it's for someone you care for more than anything. Kairi. I care for you with all my heart. Ever since that day… " Sora's voice trailed off.
"Forget it Sora. I found someone else. Someone that is worth my time," Kairi said.
Riku appeared at her side.
"Sora we're giving you a choice. To either come with us or forget us. Throw down the Keyblade and join us!" Riku said.
Sora looked at the Keyblade. It fell out of his hands. Kairi and Riku held out theirs. Sora was about to grab their hands when he pulled back.
"No! I won't go into the Darkness. We brought you out Riku. And now you want to go back?"
"If you don't wish to come with us, then let the Keyblade choose it's own master," Kairi said.
The Keyblade was not in Sora's hand, but in Kairi's.
"Kairi! Don't do this!" Kairi lifted the Keyblade to destroy Sora.
"Oathkeeper! I love you!" Sora called out, as she was about to hit him.
The Keyblade fell from her hands.
"No. Please take it back," Kairi begged.
"I can't hide my feelings for you. Not anymore," Sora said.
"But you must."
Kairi fell to the ground. Unconscious.
"Kairi!" Sora screamed.
He ran to Kairi's side.
"She lost her heart. There is no coming back for her," said a voice.
Sora turned and looked into the shadows. Maleficent stepped out.
"She has no more love in her heart. She turned dark. Way beyond your reach. He he. Now you can't keep your promise to her!"
Maleficent laughed her evil laugh. Sora looked back at Kairi laid. She was gone. Riku was also.
"Kairi!" Sora sat on the rock.
"Riku. You said that we would see other worlds together. But we aren't."
"Yes we are."
Sora turned to the source of the voice.
"Riku!" But it wasn't Riku. At least not bad Riku.
"Where's Kairi?" Sora asked.
"We are doing what we wanted. We are in each other's hearts. We will see other worlds together. Remember we will always be friends. In bad times and in good," Riku said.
He then disappeared.
"But Riku. How can we be friends if we aren't together? I'll never forget the day we made that deal," Sora said.
Sora walked back to the camp.
"Hello! Is anyone here?" he called out.
"Who's there?" another voice called out.
Link walked out into the open.
"Link. Where's Saria?" asked Sora.
"Ask your friend Kairi. She'll know."
"What do you mean?"
"She took Saria. I don't know why. But I swear I'll kill her."
"Link. I promise I'll find her," Sora said.
"Please." Sora walked out of camp.
He saw smoke coming from the next clearing over. From what he could see, a Heartless was fighting. He drew his Keyblade. Then he ran to the clearing. When he stepped out of the woods, he saw Leon and a shadow him fighting. Sora jumped into the fight. He fought with all his might. When the Heartless disappeared, Sora and Leon sat by the fire.
"Leon. What was that?" Sora asked.
"Your friend Kairi said it was an Anti," Leon said, looking around.
"What are you looking for?" Sora asked.
"I'm looking for some clues to where Yuffie went to. Kairi took her," Leon explained.
"Leon!" a voice yelled from inside the woods.
Cloud ran out into the clearing.
"Zelda… is… missing," he gasped.
He looked at Sora.
"Kairi took her. She's your friend. Where is she?"
"I don't know. I don't know anything. I don't understand anything. He was right. I did make a choice that affected my life. I-I-I lost!"
Sora looked to the sky. He saw Kairi as he last remembered her on the island. Then she started to laugh. Laugh at him. At how he was so pitiful. Sora tried to reach out to her, but he couldn't reach her. She took the Keyblade and shot at him. He fell backwards. He only heard one thing over the yells. And that was Kairi's laughter. That was all he could remember.
