*Okay. I know many people are going to say, this story has been written a million times, but don't judge just yet! Yes, Rory meets Jess again in New York City. However, in season 2, when Jess left after the car accident, Rory went to go and visit him, but he never came back. So nothing with Rory and Jess happened in season 3, but otherwise, everything else did.*

(Everything else happened in Season 3, except for the parts with Rory and Jess. Rory went to the party by herself and Dean told her he was engaged and everything else that really happened. But the kiss at Sookie's wedding never happened. Basically everything else happened, including season 4.)

Rory Gilmore was sitting at her desk at the New York Times. She was one of the head writers and her boss adored her. It was her second year at that newspaper job. It was just two years ago that she graduated from Yale and made her mother and grandparents the proudest people in the world.

Rory had to say she was happy. She had a large apartment all to herself in the city and a great job. She had friends and a family she could depend on. But even with all of that, there was still a little something missing. She had an empty part inside of herself. Sometimes there was a feeling that maybe she would be happier if she had a companion or just a boyfriend. Rory hadn't had many of those. There was Dean and maybe she went on a couple of doom dates. But she was 24 and had only one real boyfriend in her life.

Of course there was Tristan, but they never even dated. Rory knew she had more of a friendly feeling with him, but it wasn't that serious kind of romance.

There was just one more person. Jess. Oh, that name. Rory just couldn't stop thinking about him. It had to be 6 years. But she couldn't figure out why after 6 years she still dreamt about him. Why was she always dreaming about him? They were never really that close. Were they?

"Here you go, Miss Gilmore."

"Thanks, Jamie." Rory smiled gratefully at her secretary Jamie, who just handed her a cup of coffee.

"Can I get you anything else?" Jamie asked patiently. Jamie was kind of a nervous person. She was always so jittery and alert.

"Oh, do you know when the next meeting is?" Rory sipped her coffee and wheeled her chair to her desk.

"12:00. I think. No, maybe it was 1:00. Oh my gosh. I'm not sure, I'll go and find out." Jamie freaked. She started to run to the door but Rory stopped her, amused by the sight of Jamie freaking out.

"Jamie, its fine. I thought it was 12:00 anyway." Rory smiled and sipped her coffee as she got up from her seat. She put her cup on the desk and smoothed out her skirt. "I guess I'll head to Rose's office."

"Oh-okay. That's fine." Jamie smiled.

"Good." Rory breathed out with a smile.

Rory walked out of the glass doors of her office and down the hall. On her way, she had to pass all of the other desks of employees. She simply smiled at everyone, even people she didn't know, just to be polite. On her way to the elevator, there was a large granite counter where you could check in and check out. There was a man standing in front of the counter, talking to the receptionist.

Rory stopped and stared at the back of this man's head. Whoa. He looked just like Jess from behind. He had the spiky dark hair and the same skinny figure.

Slowly, the guy turned around to see Rory staring at him. Rory snapped out of her daze to see it wasn't Jess, just an ordinary man. He nodded at her to be polite and she simply smiled.

Rory inhaled hard in embarrassment. What the hell is wrong with me? She walked into the elevator and pressed the button to take her to the 8th floor, the floor of Rose's office.

Rose was the head editor of the business. She gave out assignments and basically told people what to do. Rory's advantage was that Rose loved her like her own kid.

Rory stepped out of the elevator when it reached her destination. She walked down the hall and to large glass doors, similar to hers and knocked. Rose looked up from her desk to see Rory and smiled as she motioned for her to come in.

"Hi, Rose." Rory smiled, opening the door.

"Rory! How are you? Please sit down." Rose smiled.

Rose was about, say, forty-five. She had some wrinkles on her face and her hair was colored blond since she dyed it once a month. She was skinny and short and wore thin glasses that made her look intellectual.

Rory did as she was told and sat across from Rose.

"So, what's my next piece?" Rory asked, anxiously. She loved getting new pieces. It made her feel good to write something she knew was most likely to be read.

"Rory, Rory, sweetie. You're always so quick to dive in. Can't you just relax for a second?" Rose shook her head slowly.

"You're right. So, how are you?" Rory asked, trying to act relaxed, although she wasn't.

"I'm good. Howard's still being Howard." Rose laughed loudly, finding herself hilarious.

Rory fake laughed. "That's men for ya." She smiled, acting like she knew what she was talking about since he had no experience at all.

"Yeah, well." Rose managed getting out through her small laughs.

"So, what's my next piece?" Rory asked again eagerly.

Rose exhaled loudly. "You know what, Rory. I would like you to go home, take a nice bubble bath and relax. You are always so quick and tense and that's what I love about you. But I would like you to relax for a little. And I promise I will call you around 2 and tell you your story."

"I just want to write my story. I don't need a bath. I went to Yale and graduated with honors for a reason. So I could write amazing pieces for you. So please just give me my assignment!" Rory begged.

"Go!" Rose pointed to the door.

"Ok, fine. But what is two hours going to do me?" Rory asked, standing up.

"Insanity. Now go!" Rose smiled and pointed to the door once again.

Rory sighed and walked out of the glass doors. She slowly walked home, thinking that the longer it took her to get home, the quicker 2:00 would come and she could get her assignment.

She arrived at her very well furnished apartment at 1:00. She put her key and bag on the kitchen counter and went over to her answering machine. Rory pressed the button to see if she had any messages.

Hi, Hun, it's mommy. Just wanted to see how you are doing there in your corner of the world. Oh, yeah, and I wanted to make sure you were getting your daily dose of caffeine. Call me later. Love you. Bye!

Rory smiled at the thought of her mother. Her best friend. She wouldn't know what to do without her mother. They were so close, they were more friends than daughters anyway.

Rory took off her shoes and went into her room to change her clothes. She changed into gray sports pants and a tight long sleeve shirt. She put her long brown hair up into a neat pony-tail. She didn't really like when her hair was short, she felt better with it long.

She sat down on her couch with a pint of Ben & Jerry's ice cream and turned on the TV. After eating the ice cream she placed the ice cream on the coffee table in front of her and cuddled with a quilt on her soft couch.

Ring!

Rory jerked her body up from the couch. "What the-. Oh, the phone." Rory ran to the phone. "Hello?"

"Rory?" Hi, it's Rose." Rose answered with her usual cheerful voice.

"Rose, hi. What time is it?" Rory yawned.

"It's 2:30, sleepy head. It looks like someone took my advice." Rose laughed loudly once more.

"Yeah I must have fallen asleep on the couch or something. Anyway, what's my assignment?"

"Well, since you are dying to know. I have set you up for an interview."

"An interview? My-my first interview?" Rory stammered excitedly,

"Yes, yes, darling. It's with this new author. Wait I have the name here." Rose said, and Rory could hear her rummaging through her papers.

"His name is……."

Rory held her breathe.

"Jess Mariano."

Her heart stopped. Rory's heart stopped. Jess. Oh, god that name again. Rory couldn't talk, she couldn't get the words out. She opened her mouth, but nothing came out.

"Rory? Rory, sweetie, are you there?" Rose asked, sounding concerned Rory wasn't answering.

"Yeah, yeah. I'm here." Rory said, finally finding her voice.

"Good, good." Rose said cheerfully, yet again.

"So, J-Jess Mariano?" Rory repeated, letting all of the images in her head run wild.

"Yes. I have set a lunch reservation for the two of you tomorrow at 1:00 at that new restaurant The Shaft."

"Uh, right, sounds great." Rory said, sounding confident so she didn't scare Rose any more.

"Excellent. You shall be interviewing him about his life, and his new book and anything else that you can get." Rose explained.

Rory sighed silently so Rose couldn't hear. "Okay, sounds good."

"Great. Who knows, maybe he could be the man of your dreams!" Rose laughed.

"Literally." Rory said quietly. "Maybe." She laughed nervously, but Rose didn't sense it.

"Okay, darling. Enjoy yourself."

"Thanks Rose. Bye." Rory pressed the end button on her cordless phone.

Jess.
