*Okay. I know many people are going to say, this story has been written a million times, but don't judge just yet! Yes, Rory meets Jess again in New York City. However, in season 2, when Jess left after the car accident, Rory went to go and visit him, but he never came back. So nothing with Rory and Jess happened in season 3, but otherwise, everything else did.*
(Everything else happened in Season 3, except for the parts with Rory and Jess. Rory went to the party by herself and Dean told her he was engaged and everything else that really happened. But the kiss at Sookie's wedding never happened. Basically everything else happened, including season 4.)
And many people might say that this story is the same as 'Abby' but its VERY different. Since half of the things never even happened! Just please give it a chance!
Recap: Ch1. Rory gets the news that she will be interviewing Jess Mariano.
Rory woke up the next morning, scared, yet anxious to see Jess. It had been 6 years of dreams. That was a long time and honestly, she kind of enjoyed that dream.
She got out of bed and quickly jumped into the shower. When she got out, she put on some vanilla sugar lotion so she would smell good. Then she went into her walk in closet to pick out clothes.
Now, she wanted to be formal, yet casual. Like, maybe a pair of tight jeans and her high black shoes. But she couldn't find a nice shirt. Rory looked for a shirt, but couldn't find anything.
"Oh, god. I have nothing. I at least want to make a good impression, I haven't seen him in six years." Rory got use to talking to herself especially since she lived alone.
She held up a red sweater. "No, no."
She held up some more shirts and continuously put them back down. By the time she was done, all of her shirts were lying on her down comforter.
"Casual it is." Rory smiled and picked up a whit tank top and a green cashmere coat that her grandmother had bought for her.
She walked out into the living room in then into the kitchen to turn on a pot of coffee.
"Oh, crap, my mom." Rory ran to the phone and dialed her mom's cell.
"Coffee queen." Lorelai answered.
"Hey, mom." Rory smiled.
"Rory! What's up? I haven't talked to you in days." Lorelai asked, happy to hear her daughter's voice. Since Rory moved to New York, they haven't been in much contact. Lorelai was super busy with the Dragonfly.
"Nothing much, I have my first interview today." Rory exclaimed, sitting down on her couch.
"Really? Congrats. So who are you interviewing? Some preppy expensive lady who discovered how to put eyeliner on without smudging it?" Lorelai said sarcastically.
Rory laughed. "Well, that's partially why I'm calling. You will never guess who I am interviewing."
"Who? George Michael?" Lorelai gasped.
"Jess."
Lorelai didn't speak, nor did Rory.
"Jess?"
"Jess."
"Jess?"
"Mom, its Jess. Can you please stop saying his name?"
"Sorry, I was just, really shocked." Lorelai said.
"Yeah, well." Rory sighed.
"Are you ok? How do you feel about this?" Lorelai asked, slowly. She remembered that little punk. That night when he came to her house and stole a beer out of the fridge. Then the other time when he stole Rory's bracelet that Dean mad her. Then, the reason she hated him the most. The car accident. The words 'I'm in the hospital' echoing in her head.
"I'm fine. I'm nervous. But I'm fine." Rory reassured her.
"Ok." Lorelai said, sounding a bit uneasy.
"Well, I better go, it's almost 1 and I have to meet him at 1:30." Rory said.
"Ok. Well, I feel completely useless, but call me when you get back, I want to know all the details." Lorelai said, sounding a bit better on Rory's end.
"I will." Rory smiled. "Bye, mom."
"Bye, Rory." Lorelai hung up, as did Rory.
Rory went into the kitchen and poured her coffee into a disposable cup to take with her on the walk. She put on her jacket and walked out of the door.
All Rory could think of was 'I can't believe I am going to see him.' It was all just so sudden. Like one day she is just dreaming about him, the next day she was seeing him after 6 years. She was wondering what he looked like. Would he look the same? Would he think she looked the same?
Nobody knows how badly she wished Jess came back after she visited him that time. That was one of the happiest moments in her life.
Before she knew it, she was at the restaurant. She looked up at the sigh that said in big bold letters "The Shaft."
Rory sighed. "Great."
She walked up to the restaurant doors and slowly opened them.
The restaurant was cold and dark. It smelled like candles, or maybe like one of those Hot Topic stores. She walked up to the reservation booth.
"Hello, Welcome to the Shaft. I'm Mel." The hostess greeted her.
"Hey, Mel. Um, I think the reservation is under Rose, Rory, or Jess Mariano." Rory guessed.
"All Marianos?" The hostess asked.
"Oh, no. It would be just plain Rory or Rose." Rory explained with a smile.
"Alrighty, well we have a Jess Mariano and he's here already, I can take you to him if you like." Mel offered.
"Um, sure, sure." Rory hesitated.
"Ok, follow me." Mel smiled and grabbed a menu for her. They walked down a long hall where there were many doors. It was a very private and big place. Each group got their own separate room, that's how big the place was.
"Okay, this is room 23. May I help you in?" Mel asked politely.
"Um, no thanks, Mel. I think I can take it from here." Rory smiled reassuringly.
"Alrighty, a waiter will be in a few minutes."
"Okay, thank you." Rory smiled as Mel walked away.
Rory was so confused. Her head was filled with a million thoughts trying to make sense of it all. First off, she thought the restaurant was the craziest place because of all of the room numbers. It made her feel like she was in a hotel. Next, what the hell was she going to say to him? Why was she so nervous? He never did anything to hurt her.
"I can't just stand here. I gotta go in." Rory said quietly and took a deep breath as she slowly opened the door.
Rory slowly stepped into the private and quiet room, besides the soft piano playing in the background.
And there he was. It was Jess. The guy who made her feel happy and sad at the same time.
Being a polite guy, Jess stood up, but kept his eyes on the ground so he didn't see Rory right away. When Rory saw his face, she smiled brightly on how he basically looked the same, he was still cute.
"Hello, I'm J-"Jess began to say until you looked up and saw Rory.
"Rory?" Jess asked in disbelief.
"Jess." Rory smiled and Jess smiled back.
"What are you doing here?" Jess continued to smile.
"I'm here to interview an author and I take it that's you." Rory said, walked up to him.
"Yeah. That's me." Jess smiled and pulled her into a friendly hug. Rory felt like she was going to fall. His body heat made her go crazy.
When they pulled apart, the both smiled at each other, and they couldn't stop. Rory looked at what Jess was wearing. He had on black jeans and a black sweater.
"Here." He offered to pull her seat out for her.
"Aw, thanks." Rory smiled and sat in her chair as he pushed it in. Then he walked around the table and sat in his seat.
"So, wow, it's been like, six years." Rory said.
"I know. Crazy how we are being reunited." Jess laughed lightly.
"Yeah. The last time I saw you was here, actually." Rory continued smiling.
"Yeah, that's a fact. I'm sorry I didn't call or visit. I just, couldn't do it." Jess said guiltily.
"It's ok. I get to see you now." Rory laughed and Jess joined in.
Jess couldn't believe that he was sitting across Rory. It's just insane because of all the reasons of the past. He always liked her, possibly loved her. And she was the same old Rory. Funny, smart, caring.
Jess just nodded.
"Oh, right, we are here for an interview." Rory remembered and pulled out a pad and pen.
"Right." Jess said and leaned on the table with his elbows, holding his hands up.
"Ok, so, you're a writer?" Rory asked.
"Yes, I am."
"What's the title of your book?" Rory looked him in the eye.
"Right or wrong." Jess breathed out then looking her in the eye.
Rory wrote out the given information and then looked up at him again. "What's it about?"
"Um, a guy who's girlfriend dies in a car crash and he re-evaluates his life and he discovers that his girlfriend is still alive and their love blossoms again." Jess explained slowly.
"Oh, wow. Sounds good." Rory smiled.
"Well, critics like it." Jess nodded. "So, you became a writer too."
"How ironic, right? Two people who love to read as much as us." Rory laughed lightly.
"Right. Oh, so, how was Harvard?" Jess asked leaning back in his seat.
"You mean Yale." Rory smiled proudly.
"Yale? Oh, oh man. You're a Yale Girl?" Jess laughed.
"Honor Yale Girl to be exact." Rory joked.
"Good, good, sounds about right." Jess smiled.
A waiter walked into the room. "Hi, I'm James, I shall be your server tonight. Can I get you guys something to drink?"
"Um, I'll have a coke and she will have a-"Jess motioned for her to fill in the blank.
"Um, I'll have a coke also." Rory stammered.
"Great." James said and walked out of the room.
"This place is so strange and I feel so underdressed." Rory laughed.
"You look nice." Jess complimented her.
"Thanks." Rory blushed.
"So, how have you been?" Jess asked, trying to make conversation.
"Good, I've been good. You?"
"Also good."
"Good."
"Yeah, it is good." Jess nodded. "I don't mean to pry but just trying to make conversation but whatever happened to Dean?"
"I came here in June and we dated until that next October. We broke up and he got married to a girl named Lindsay right after graduation. I haven't dated since, except for a few bad dates at Yale." Rory smiled. "How about you?"
"Nope, not at all. I was hung up on this girl, but I never saw her again." Jess said slowly.
Rory could tell right away that he was talking about her. Was she falling for Jess a second time?
"Yeah, well, we should probably get back to the interview." Rory said.
"Right."
The waiter brought their drinks in and they quickly ordered.
"Okay, so I guess I could skip the questions about your child hood since I already know it." Rory laughed.
"Yeah. So, what's the next question?" Jess asked, sipping his coke.
Rory looked at her list of questions. When she saw the questioned, she panicked a bit.
"Are you single at the moment?" Rory stammered.
"It depends. I have my eye on someone." Jess smiled widely.
Rory blushed, again realizing that he was talking about her.
"You?" He asked.
"Same here. I'm still deciding."
"That's cool." Jess said, trying to make her feel comfortable.
Rory knew it. She was falling for Jess so early in the race. They were just getting to know each other after six years and she could tell Jess felt the same way.
Soon enough, their food came and they both dug into their food.
"Do you plan on writing another book?" Rory asked between bites.
"It depends if I find my inspiration." Jess wiped his mouth with his napkin.
Rory wrote that down. "Ooook………and done!" Rory smiled.
"Good. Got enough information for a good piece? You know I am going to read it. You know, frame it on the wall of my apartment." Jess said sarcastically.
"I got enough information thank you very much." Rory laughed.
"Glad to be a help." Jess nodded.
"Job well done." Rory smiled.
The waiter came in and gave Jess the check and he paid for it.
"You know you didn't have to do that." Rory said, feeling bad for making him pay for a $60 lunch.
"It's fine, don't worry about it." Jess smiled comfortingly.
"Okay, well, let's get going." Rory said, getting up. Jess did the same.
They walked together down the long hallway and out of the door. Rory wrapped her jacket around her body as the wind blew in her face.
"Well, I had a lot of fun, and thank you for lunch." Rory smiled.
"You are welcome and I had a lot of fun too. Maybe, you know, maybe we could, go-" Jess stammered, nervous and not quite sure how to word it.
"Are you asking me out?" Rory smiled, amused by Jess being nervous.
"Uh, yeah." Jess smiled slightly embarrassed.
"I'd be happy to go out with you again. Here's my number." Rory wrote down her number on a piece of paper and ripped it, then handed it to Jess. Then Jess did the same, and gave her his number.
"Alright, well, I'll call you tonight." Jess smiled.
"Ok, then, I'll talk to you tonight." Rory said.
"Great. Bye, Rory." Jess nodded.
"Bye, Jess. " Rory said as they walked their separate ways.
Rory couldn't believe how well that had gone. She never even got to go out with Jess because she was with Dean. Now was her chance to get to know Jess and date him to see if she made a mistake all of those years ago.
When she got home she threw her keys and bag on the counter and ran to the phone. She quickly dialed Lorelai's cell phone.
"He-llo?" Lorelai answered.
"Mom!" Rory exclaimed.
"Hey sweetie! How'd it go?"
"We have another date!" Rory said excitedly.
"Really?" Lorelai sounded disappointed.
"Well, not officially. But he is going to call tonight to schedule." Rory said.
"Oh, so there s chance he may not call." Lorelai sounded relieved.
"No, he's gonna call and I have his number, so all is well in Whoville." Rory said happily.
"Well, good." Lorelai said uneasily.
"Mom, please. I know your not thrilled, just give him a chance." Rory whined.
"Rory, I will cut this guy all kinds of slack. But one mishap I'll kill him." Lorelai giggled.
"Fine, just give him a chance." Rory pleaded.
"I'll try."
"You'll really really try." Rory extended.
"I'll try." Lorelai simply said.
"Really-" Rory began to say but Lorelai cut he off.
"I'll hang up!" Lorelai warned.
"Fine!" Rory said.
"Ok. Call me when you have an update." Lorelai said, trying to be supportive.
"I will. Bye."
"Bye, sweetie." Lorelai said as they both hung up.
Rory put the phone back in the receiver and then went to pour herself some heated coffee. She took it into the living and laid on the couch, drinking coffee, watching TV, and thinking about Jess.
