*Okay. I know many people are going to say, this story has been written a million times, but don't judge just yet! Yes, Rory meets Jess again in New York City. However, in season 2, when Jess left after the car accident, Rory went to go and visit him, but he never came back. So nothing with Rory and Jess happened in season 3, but otherwise, everything else did.*

(Everything else happened in Season 3, except for the parts with Rory and Jess. Rory went to the party by herself and Dean told her he was engaged and everything else that really happened. But the kiss at Sookie's wedding never happened. Basically everything else happened, including season 4.)

Lori: I love the story "Abby" and the ideas that you have will be great anyway. But that sounds good. I wont broadcast it for everyone, but good luck on your story, I look forward to reading it! J

Recap: Ch1. Rory gets the news that she will be interviewing Jess Mariano.

Ch2. Rory meets Jess and they talk over lunch. Jess asks if they could hang out sometime and Rory agrees to.

            Enjoy Chapter 3!!

That night, Rory had that same dream again. The dream of when she first moved to New York and she met Jess again. It would always end the same way. They would go out and become close and fall in love. Rory couldn't even count how many times she wished it was real, it was too much. Obviously, she could tell that dream meant something. You can't have a dream like that without it meaning something.

But the scariest part was that that night her dream ended differently. They dated, fell in love, but then the dream ended at Jess moving to California, leaving Rory behind.

Rory woke up, panting hard. She surely didn't want Jess to leave. She wanted to get to know him better and see if their relationship could go somewhere. But that dream really was scary for her. But no, she couldn't let that discourage her. Rory decided to block that out of her mind.

Rory rushed to work that morning. She was late because of a coffee problem at Starbucks, but hey, she had to have her coffee.

She walked into her office to see Jamie standing there, pacing back and forth in front of her desk.

"J-Jamie? You ok?" Rory looked hard into her face.

"Rory! Oh, my god! Where have you been? I've been a nervous wreck for, I don't even know what time it is!" Jamie cried.

"I'm 15 minutes late, Jamie." Rory walked around her desk and sat down.

"Well who knows what could happen in 15 minutes. I thought you got mugged or shot or you were just-"

"Late?" Rory smiled.

"Right." Jamie breathed out. When she saw that Rory was just sitting there, smiling, she knew it was time to just calm down and get back to work. "Do you need anything?"

"Not right now, but thanks." Rory said.

"Ok. I'll be back later." Jamie left the room quickly and Rory just laughed lightly to herself. She started her computer so she could start on her paper about Jess's book and career.

Rory's paper was going great. It helped that she already knew about his teen years and such and the interview yesterday gave her enough to write one of her best stories. Maybe if her story came out as good as she thinks it will, maybe Rose will give her a promotion. But she was pretty content with her position now.

Rory was close to finished with her story when her phone rang.

"Hi, Rory Gilmore speaking." Rory answered professionally.

"Hey."

Rory could recognize that voice from anywhere. It was the same voice that she heard the night before she went to New York for a visit to a friend. It was that friend.

"Hey." Rory smiled and stopped typing.

"That was very professional." Jess mocked.

"Right, it was. How did you get this number?" Rory asked, still sounding casual.

"Your boss, Rose. I told her about our passionate night last night and she agreed to connect me."  Jess smiled to himself.

"You what?" Rory sounded serious.

"Relax, I'm kidding. I just told her I knew you before yesterday." Jess reassured her.

"Ok, good." Rory breathed out with a smile. "You never called."

"Right, sorry, I had another quick, planned-before-I-could-object interview."

"Oh, so you're quite famous, aren't you?" Rory smiled.

"Are you mocking me?"

"You mocked me before!"

"But you didn't bust me!"

"I'm busting you now!"

Jess was running out of things to say. "You're probably squirming. I like it when you squirm. It's entertaining." Rory said.

"Oh yeah?"

"Yeah……Whoa. Total Déjà vu." Rory laughed lightly.

"Really?"

"Yeah, we've had this conversation once before." Rory smiled to herself.

"We did?"

"Yeah. It was the time when my mom went to a spa, and I was home alone. Remember…"

"Luke's care package!" They said at the same time, and then went silent.

"You squirmed." Rory laughed quietly.

"You were entertained." Jess pointed back.

Rory didn't say anything, she just smiled. She kinda had the feeling Jess knew she was smiling.

"Ok, so I guess I better get going." Rory had to end the conversation somehow. There wasn't much else to say.

"Wait. I was wondering what you were doing tonight?" Jess asked quickly. He had to work up the courage to ask.

"Um, nothing, I don't think. Why? What are you doing?" Rory tried to sound casual, although he knew she was just saying that to be casual.

"Nothing, so I was wondering if you wanted to go out?" Jess held his breathe. But why was he so nervous? He asked her yesterday and she said yes. So why was he so nervous. He wasn't a slacker. He was successful.

"Sure. But what did you have in mind?"

"Dinner. Movie. Whatever." Jess shrugged off to try and be semi-cool.

"Sounds good."

"Ok, I'll pick you up. Where do you live?'

"161 Grand St. Apartment #5."

"O-kay." I'll pick you up at seven." Jess said.

"Ok. Great. I'll see you then.

"Great. Bye."

"Bye."

Rory hung up the phone and leaned back in her chair.

She was now dating Jess. She had to admit, she was happy and excited. But she kept on thinking of that dream she had.

Rory didn't want to loose him so early in the game. She wanted to try this. But then again, it was ok because they fall in love first, and she was pretty sure she wasn't in love.

Rory left work around four and went home. She walked over to her answering machine and pressed the green button.

"You have no messages." The masculine voice said.

Rory frowned and picked up her phone.

"He-llo?"

"Mom?"

"Rory, hunny, what's up? I hadn't heard from you today I was getting worried."

"Did it ever occur to you that you could call me." Rory laughed.

"Ye-eah but that requires getting up and dialing a lot of numbers since you have a different area code and that's just too much work for mommy to do." Lorelai stammered.

"Fine. I give. Guess what!"

"What? Please tell me you didn't meet Bono!" Lorelai yelped.

"No, of course not. If I did I would have you on the phone in two seconds." Rory laughed again.

"One."

"If you prefer."

"Anyway, what's the good news?"

"I have a date with Jess tonight!" Rory screeched.

Lorelai didn't say anything. She was beyond shocked. She never anticipated anything happening between them. I mean, sure, Rory wasn't much for socializing and she really only had one real boyfriend, but Jess. It just had to be Jess didn't it?

"Mom?"

"Y-eah. I'm here." Lorelai stuttered.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing. It's just that…I don't know if Jess is the right person for you." Lorelai said uneasily. Rory knew where this conversation was going.

"Mom, I thought you were gonna cut him some slack! And I have never even dated him, how would you know if he is right for me?"

"Well, he doesn't have the best track record. And besides Rory, Jess is a bad boy and you are a good girl." Lorelai said gently.

"No, mom. I'm not a good girl. I'm a woman who doesn't need permission from her mommy to date someone." Rory was getting emotional. She started to get a lump in her throat and she had that feeling she would burst into tears any second.

"Rory….."

"Mom, I gotta go." Rory hung up the phone quickly.

It was 6:45 and Rory was sitting on her couch, staring at the clock in front of her. She was still upset about the fight she had with her mom. They never fought. Probably 4 times in their whole lives. Rory felt empty with her mother being away and now she felt even emptier knowing they weren't even speaking.

But she had a date with Jess tonight and she couldn't help but being excited. It was a casual date where they wouldn't have to talk about his book or a newspaper article, they could just talk about each other. Not that she didn't find his book interesting, she just wanted it to be a normal date.

Soon enough, her intercom buzzer went off. Rory jumped up from the couch and ran to the intercom speaker.

"Jess?" Rory said into the intercom as she held down on to the button.

"Yeah. It's me."

"Ok. I'll be right down."

"Ok."

Rory grabbed her heavy leather jacket and ran out the door. When she got outside, she saw Jess standing there chattering his teeth.

"You look cold." Rory smiled as she walked up to him.

"I'm fine." Jess smiled. He casually pecked Rory on the cheek and gave her a rose.

Rory smiled and gently but unnoticeably touched her cheek to feel the warmness of where the kiss was placed.

"So, shall we?" Jess held out his arm and Rory linked her arm to his.

They began walking while the freezing cold air blew in their faces and made Rory's straight long hair fly around her head.

"So, where do you live?"

"A couple of blocks from here. It's not that far."

"Ah. Good." Rory smiled nervously. She had no idea what she should say. So she figured she'd let him do all the talking until they get there.

"Your apartment seems nice." Jess said.

"Yeah it's nice. I like it." She laughed lightly as Jess smiled at her. "You can come up later and see it if you want."

"Whatever." Jess nodded.

"So I see you haven't changed." Rory laughed that he was still using the term 'whatever' after six years.

"Nah. That wasn't the first thing you noticed?" Jess asked sarcastically.

"Guess not." Rory smiled as she pushed herself a bit closer to him and he pulled her closer, getting the message that either she was cold or she wanted to be closer to him.

When they finally arrived at the restaurant called "Demark", they quickly got taken to their reserved seats. They gave their coats to the hostess and he hung them.

Rory and Jess obviously sat across from one another.

"Your waiter will be with you in a minute." The hostess said as he handed them their menus.

"Thank you." Jess said and Rory nodded to the man.

"So, what do you want?"

"Um, I guess I'll have a Chicken Parmesan." Rory said, still scanning her menu.

"I'll have the same thing." Jess nodded with a smiled.

The waiter came over in the proper attire for a restaurant.

"Hello, I'm Holly. I'll be your server this evening. Are you ready?"

"Yes, we'll have chicken parmesan and two cokes." Jess ordered for the both of them while Rory smiled gratefully at Holly.

"Great. Thank you." Holly smiled and walked away.

Rory liked how Jess was acting casual as to not make her nervous. He was good that way.

"So, how's that piece coming?" Jess asked to start a conversation.

"I finished. It may even be the best piece I've written."

"Sounds about right."

"Yep. So, how was it writing a book about me?" Rory smiled.

Dammit, she caught him. Rory cornered Jess. But how was he suppose to explain to her that he wrote a book about her?

"Ah. It wasn't really about you. You were my inspiration." Jess stammered.

"Ha. You're squirming again!" Rory smiled amusingly.

Jess just sat there, blushing.

"It's ok. So I was your inspiration. The accident?"

"Yeah."

"But I never died. Or at least I don't remember dying." Rory smirked.

"That's what I mean. It was just the accident that inspired me. In the book, it's his girlfriend, and you weren't my girlfriend." Jess said quietly.

Rory stared at her hands. "No, I wasn't."

"How long did things last with Dean?"

"I told you. We dated for a couple of months. We just weren't right for each other I guess. It took us two years to realize it."

"Oh, right."

"So you never, never ever had another girlfriend?" Rory asked curiously. She didn't want to pry. She just wanted to know!!

"Nope. Never interested."

"Huh." Rory said quietly.

The rest of the dinner went by fast. They talked about their past and how they were doing and their interests. Best of all was that there was no pressure. It was just a fun dinner with a reunited friend.

When they finished eating, they left and Jess walked Rory home. When the arrived they stopped in front of the door.

"You wanna come up?" Rory smiled.

"Sure." Jess nodded.

They both walked to the elevator and walked up to the apartment.

"This is it." Rory said after she unlocked the door and they walked in.

"Huh. Very nice. It's very white." Jess said observantly.

"Thanks. Yeah, I like it white."

"Ah, so after I have a fight in a pig pen I guess I'm not welcomed." Jess said sarcastically.

"Right." Rory smiled.

"Ok, well I guess I better get going."

"O-Ok." Rory swallowed. She didn't want him to leave just yet.

"Maybe I'll see you tomorrow?" Jess asked.

"Sure." Rory smiled.

"Great." Jess didn't know whether he should go in for the kiss or just lightly kiss her cheek. So he did the first thing he could think to do.

Jess leaned in and aimed for her cheek and Rory did the same, so they ended up kissing each others cheeks.

Rory smiled as they pulled apart. "Bye."

"Bye." Jess smiled and closed the door behind him.

Rory smiled again and walked over to her answering machine to see if her mother called. She pressed the button.

"You have no messages."

Rory sighed and walked over to her couch. She laid down and fell asleep in the quiet apartment.
