First, standard disclaimers. I don't own Hellsing and I never will. I
only own the things I came up with. This applies to the whole story, so
I'm not going to repeat it every chapter.
Now, this is my first Hellsing fanfic. I deviate pretty far from the established plot in this story. I dropped the idea of the FREAK chip. This story starts a month or two after the attack by the Valentine brothers, but they're no longer artificial vampires. Incognito doesn't show up in this story, but I have another big evil bad guy in his place.
I kept everyone as close to on character I could, and I've been told I did well.
Now that everything is up, I'm going to revise all the notes I put at the beginning of the chapters and pull them into one big thing at the end, just to have a better flow in the story itself.
So, read and review!

Hey Dad,
I know what questions must be coming to your mind: "Where am I? How am I? What am I doing?" I'll answer them all with as much detail as I can give. I don't know yet if I'll be able to send or receive any messages after this is sent.
But before anything else, I want to say that I hope this message finds you well. Know that I miss you, Mom, Amy, and everyone else terribly, and I pray I'll be able to see you all again one of these days.
So, where to begin... As you know, I was heading to England from there in the US for two weeks for some study abroad in electrical engineering. I'd earn at least twelve credit hours for the two weeks; the sort of thing you can't pass up. Well, I was all ready to come home, but I figured I should grab some stuff to bring home to the family. That's pretty much all you know at this point.
Ever since I woke up the morning after all this happened, I really couldn't remember all the details of the night. Here's what I remember. I went to a mall near the hotel, something the size of the Paddock Mall in Ocala. Nice stores there. I found some nice stuff to bring home. I was getting ready grab the last few things and leave when I heard a lot of commotion from the far end of the mall and saw a bunch of people running in my direction. Well, you know me and how my curiosity can work; I went to see what was up. It was a standoff, like something out of a movie; one guy standing by the wall and a group of people towards the other wall with each side pointing guns at the other. My curiosity satiated, I started to join the herd moving away... Then, my mind abruptly fogged. It's almost like I blacked out, but I didn't fall down and my vision turned gray. Next thing I knew, I was a hostage of the lone guy. But he didn't hold his gun at me; he held it at the other group. Well, I had enough of my brain back to analyze the situation, so I studied the other group. Soldier types mostly, with one exception. At the head of the group was a young woman in a police uniform. I noticed one important detail; she had the strangest red eyes... I was able to turn my head and eyes enough to look at my captor. He had red eyes too, and rather long, pointed canine teeth... Dad, you've always been a smart man. I'm sure you can put two and two together.
Outlandish and unbelievable as it may seem, I was being held hostage by a vampire and involved in a standoff against a bunch of soldiers who had their own vampire. Don't worry; it makes sense when you're shown the whole picture... kinda. So, my hearing was still distorted by whatever the vampire holding me had done to my brain. I couldn't tell what each side was yelling to the other. I haven't asked yet. Kinda had other things on my mind. Anyway, something finally cuts through the fog. A voice. It was the woman's. I don't know if she was speaking vocally or telepathically, and I can't remember exactly what she said, but she said roughly this: "The guy behind you is an evil bastard and we have to kill him. To kill him means shooting you. But you don't have to die. You can join me. It must be your choice. Choose quickly." You know me, dad. What else could I do? I said yes.
Next thing I know, I'm lying on the floor next to a pile of ashes with a big hole in my chest, being lifted up by the young woman. She reminded me it was my choice... then... I'll put it this way; if you've ever wondered what it's like to have your blood sucked out through your neck, don't ask. You don't want to know. It's almost hard to know what's worse: having your blood sucked out, or having to suck some of their blood afterwards...
I can't go into details, but I can say this much. There's an organization in England tasked with destroying all vampires and other 'unholy creatures of the night'. I suppose it was kinda my choice, but in the end I had no choice but to join. It took a week, but I convinced the organization's head to let me e-mail you and let you know what happened. I'll try to convince her to let me continue. It's been a quiet week, no deployments, but I heard from others at the base here that this is odd. When something does happen, and I prove myself to them, I might be able to e-mail you again and pick up your reply.
Well, I'm not sure how to sum this up. Dad, I'm a vampire. I no longer know where I fit in on this world. Right now the only saving grace I know of is that I don't have to suck blood from people. Medical blood works just fine. I'll admit I haven't had any yet... but it's only a matter of time. I don't know what I'll be when I do, but I think that as long as I don't drink blood from a person I keep my humanity. I am not going to loose it.
I don't envy you the task I'm asking you to do. Please find a way to tell mom, Amy, Akira, and anyone else you can think of who should know. (Probably few others, if any.) I'll update you if I can, let you know if I can ever come home... That is, if you'll still have me... Let me know, ok? Reply to this message. I'll read it when... and if... I can.
In case I can't, take care and fare well.
Love to everyone,
Matt
