Chapter1

The beginning

In an orphanage in the east of London is a girl. She is alone in the children's bedroom and she is now looking at herself in a mirror. She is 15, slim, quite tall and has long hair black as ebony that looks slightly wavy. She has a couple of other features which seem to be very interesting indeed. Her eyes are golden with a scar in the middle of her face going at an angle. A new boy had just arrived in the bed opposite her. He turned his bag upside down and all the contents spilled out on to the bed. He looked up and smiled at the girl and she smiled back. He then came over to her with his eyes filling with curiosity.

"Do you know that scar looks exactly like Squall's in Final Fantasy 8?"

"No... who's Squall and what is Final Fantasy 8?"

So the boy then goes back to his bed and pulls out a poster from the various items on his bed. It was of a teenager not much older than her self. He also had a scar much like her own and in more or less the same place. He looked like he was in a very bad mood.

"Oh, I see what you mean."

"My names Dean by the way." Dean held out his hand for the girl to take.

"Soraya." Says the girl as she takes his hand and shakes it. Dean apparently was obsessed by computer games; all his items had something from a computer game. From his clothes to his posters. But Soraya didn't care; she thought Dean was a very nice boy. Dean then looked at Soraya and noticed her eyes.

"Wow golden eyes. Never seen those before, they must be really rare. I bet all the girls are jealous of you." Soraya jumped at these words, she never thought of her eyes like that.

Dean went back to his bed to sort out his things. Soraya sat down on her old four poster bed with greying covers. She looks around the room which she shares with the other kids and teenagers. The walls were covered in light blue wallpaper and it was peeling at the edges. There were thirty beds all sitting in three straight lines down the room ten in each row. One row on each side of the room and one row down the middle. Her eyes were reflecting the sunlight which was pouring through the old windows. These have been there since the place had been built as far as anyone could tell. Some of the panes were missing or smashed, so in winter to keep the cold out at night they put wood panels over the holes. The orphanage was situated on top of a hill so it was extremely cold in winter. Where as in the summer it was nice and cool...unless you were in lessons. That's when the old windows reflected the sunlight and amplified the heat five times over. Making it stiflingly hot and hard to breathe as the windows were so old...no one had to courage to open them in case the top half came loose and crashed on top of your head.

Soraya then looked back at Dean; he had just finished unpacking his things from a bed opposite her on the right side of the room. He came back to Soraya and they played a game of hangman on a piece of paper using pencils. She had just finished beating Dean at the fifth game of hangman in a row when a little girl with shockingly white hair and stunning light blue eyes entered the room. "Come here Amily I want you to meet Dean, he just came here today."

The little girl turned to meet the voice and walked over to Soraya and Dean. Dean held out a hand for the girl to take but instead she just looked at Dean and turned to Soraya.

"Come on little sis he's not dangerous I promise!"

So the girl turned back to Dean and shook his hand. Amily then made some hand gestures towards Soraya. Soraya nodded and Amily walked out of the room again. Dean then spoke inquisitively to Soraya.

"Amily seems like a very nice kid. Ummm..... I don't mean to pry but..." He looked at the door to make sure Amily was gone. "...is she deaf?"

Soraya just looked at Dean.

"No. She can't talk.....a year and a half ago she couldn't stop talking but now." Soraya sighed sadly and looked in the direction that Amily left. "She saw her parents die and it was very traumatising for her. She didn't scream or cry but looked silently at the bodies. It was like she was in some kind of trance; they were my parent's friends and adopted me when my parents died. I don't remember much of my parents as I was only a baby when they died. Amily's father Lei Hung knew martial arts well. So he took it upon himself to teach me and Amily in case anything happened later on in life. I am a black belt and Amily is a brown. But there is always something new to learn but until then I'm just teaching her the rest of what I know"

"In what?" Dean asked, he clearly looked impressed.

"Nahunja. Amily's mother Luna was one of the kindest and unselfish people I have ever met. Amily doesn't look much like her mother. The white hair came from Luna's mother so that sort of skipped a generation. Her eyes she got from her father as he had light blue eyes too." Soraya sighed long and deep, with a heavy heart. "I miss them so much."

Later Dean went back to his bed and busied himself with one of his playstation posters before looking back up at her.

"So you're here because you and Amily have no parents?"

Dean just realised what he said, and quickly apologised to Soraya for not thinking before he spoke.

"That's OK it doesn't bother me I never knew my parents. I .....also think I am starting to forget Amily's parents too. I just wish I could remember then more clearly." Soraya sighed again. "So what are you in for Dean?"

Dean jumped back a foot.

"You make it sound like this is a prison!"

Soraya laughed.

"Your not wrong there mate."

The two of them told some more stories until 12:00. The sun was gleaming in the windows and the room was getting too hot. So they went outside to the cool playground. Three days past and it seemed Dean and Soraya hit it off instantly. Apparently he was sent here by his parents because his brother. He kept having fights with Dean all summer.

"You should have seen the look on my mothers face!" Dean told Soraya. "She went mad when we broke her vase and said that was the last straw. She meant it about it being the last straw; she made us draw straws to see who comes here. I drew the shortest so here I am."

Soraya laughed at this very amusing story and Dean couldn't help but grin to the ridiculous situation.

Just then they passed one of the classrooms so Soraya decided to show Dean something.

"Come here, I want you to know why I am so glad I don't have lessons on August."

"OK."

So Soraya positioned Dean in front of the door and opened it. Dean quickly understood what she meant for as soon as the door opened a heat wave hit him hard in the face. He started to sweat and gasped for air.

"Soraya this is unbearable close the door quick!"

So she closed it and Dean looked shocked.

"How can you work like that in July?"

"Not easily I can tell you. It's like being in a sauna with your clothes on, now imagine going through that 5 hours a day."

"I'd rather not thanks."

She closed the door and looked in to the room grudgingly, and then looked up to the sprinklers and grinned.

"I never worked out what happened two weeks ago in July with the sprinklers."

"What happened?"

"Well it was really hot in the room and I couldn't bare it. So I looked up at the sprinklers and imagined it raining. A second later it did...the sprinklers turned themselves on somehow. I never figured it out; no one did not even the engineer. It was like magic or something."
Dean gave Soraya a very odd look as if he was hiding something from her.

"What?"

"Nothing...er...has this ever happened before?"

"No.....I mean yes a couple of times in the past. Why?"

"No reason. The lunch bells ringing lets go."

"But Dean what did you mean when-"

"Nothing now let's go."

The didn't say anything more until hey reached the lunch queue. But Soraya couldn't help looking at Dean with a great puzzlement all over her face about the question he asked. That left with the smell of food approaching as they went to the back of the queue.

Amily came up to them and said hello to them and went to the back of the queue.

"That's funny..."

"What's funny?"

"Oh nothing....its just that after her parents died she's never really taken to anyone besides me. She was always distant towards other people and didn't really trust them. You haven't been here long but she's really taken to you."

"Oh, OK. Wait....maybe she's becoming more confident with other people."

"Maybe...oh well no point in worrying about it now were on holiday."

Just then a huge girl with one eye brow and braces appeared. She had a very mean look on her, and her gang members were also huge. "Oi Soraya!" Her voice was gruff and sounded more like a boy than a teenage girl. Soraya who had been praying for the girl not to talk to her a second ago reluctantly turned round and answered in an annoyed tone.

"What do you want Cartmen?" The girl waddled towards Dean and Soraya.

"Gimme half of your lunch or I'll belt ya." Her gang began to laugh. Some were smaller than Cartmen but all of them were massive compared to Soraya and Dean.

"Do I have to remind you what happened last time Cartmen? Have all your missing teeth been replaced yet?" Now this time the other kids laughed at the look on Cartmen and her gangs faces. "I don't like to brag Cartmen but I am a black belt in Nahunja. So I will defend myself when required...don't attack me Cartmen and you won't get hurt, I promise!"

"Oh, Yeah?" Said Cartmen her voice shaking with anger.

"We-well what if I – if I....." Cartmen's fat head and bulging belly looked as though they were doing some fast thinking. It looked like very hard work and very painful for her. "I'll just belt your sister then" People looked fearful whilst Soraya just laughed.

"Cartmen she's not that far behind me when it comes to Nahunja. So she will proceed to do the same, so I wouldn't mess with her either."

Catrmen had no more ammo and tried to look menacing. She bared what was left of her cracked teeth, looked sideways at Dean and then left with her gang walking behind her.

"Who was that?" Dean asked looking after Cartmen and her gang as they went to the back of the queue sulkily.

"The headmistress's niece, a nasty piece of work I can tell you. She struts around like she owns the place. YUK Spinach again!"

They had reached the front of the queue and had just been served their food when screams and shouts could be heard at the back of the line. Soraya looked down it to see that Cartmen had cornered Amily. Cartmen went to swing a punch, Amily dodged and Cartmen's fingers hit the wall. "OWWWW!" Then Cartmen used her big belly to hold Amily still and went to swing another punch. That was it; Soraya saw red and dropped her tray. Then she ran at Cartmen before she could swing her punch. Soraya performed a running jump kick at Cartmens head and a sickening crack could be heard. Cartmens nose had broken under the impact. She released Amily and staggered back holding her nose. One of the knuckles on her hands was bruised and blood was streaming from her nose between her fingers to the floor. Then she ran as fast as her fat legs could carry her out of the cafeteria. With her gang following their wounded leader like loyal dogs.

"That's it I'm dead."

"Why Soraya?"

"When her aunt gets wind of this I'll be having detention for a month...Amily too. Cartmen will probably tell her it was Amily who broke her fingers."

No sooner had Soraya said this the speakers rang out. "Will Soraya Griffis and Amily Hung please come to the head teacher's office straight away!" With a heavy heart and a sigh she bid farewell to Dean and moved slowly towards eleven year old Amily. She picked her up and carried her to the head teacher's office.

**** Thanks to my first review which was very laughable. I shan't stop writing...but thanks for pointing out my mistakes. Now this chapter is better than before and I'm going to keep it like this. So that first review can form a line behind me and kiss my **s!
