Chapter 16
Six years of exams in one
It was getting near to exams. But Soraya and everyone else except for Hermione didn't care about that for the moment as today was the last Quidditch match of the year with Slytherin against Griffindor.
"It's going to be a dirty game."
"Why's that Ron?"
"It's the Captains of the Slytherins last year at Hogwarts and after him Malfoy's going to be the captain of Slytherin."
Ron was right as the game was the dirtiest thing Soraya had ever seen in her life. They kept on hitting the Griffindors off their brooms without the use of bludgers. Most of them were dodged by the skill of the Griffindors but some hit home causing the players to fall to the ground in a crumpled heap. It was a good thing that Dumbledore was there and used a spell to slow them down before they hit the ground otherwise who knows what could have happened. He frowned at the Slytherins who just smirked as they got the effect they wanted. But then looked disappointed as the players came back straight away looking very annoyed.
Some of them swore at the Slytherins and hit them back. So penalties were being handed out left and right and Madam Hooch had a hard time keeping up with them. Then Harry spotted the snitch and flew towards it, he had to dodge the whole Slytherin team and both bludgers as he dived for it. He was hit by a Slytherin chaser and lost the snitch. The whole crowd booed and the Slytherin's cheers were drowned out as Harry had to go back up and look around for the snitch again. Lee nearly had the microphone taken from him as he swore loudly.
Madam Hooch was beside her self and awarded quite a few penalties to Griffindor. Even McGonagall was yelling a few obscenities at the Slytherin team and Lee was lucky enough to catch them on the microphone. McGonagall turned deeply red and Lee was in a lot of trouble. While all this was going on Soraya noticed that Harry had seen the snitch again and was speeding towards it before anyone else noticed what he was doing. The Slytherin team pulled themselves together and tried to come in for the attack again. But this time the Griffindor team pulled together and stopped them in their tracks. Even Malfoy had been caught out by Harry and was too late to do anything about it.
This time Harry caught the snitch and the whole crowd was cheering. It completely drowning out the boos from the Slytherins the end score was 330- 120. McGonagall was crying with joy as were some of the Griffindor team. Soraya looked at Snape and couldn't believe it to be possible at what she was seeing. He was looking nastier than he had ever done before and he looked right up at the ecstatic team and Harry. He was looking at Harry with even greater dislike and glared at the smiling boy. But no one else seem to care what the Slytherins were doing and were still cheering for Griffindors victory.
Harry and the team flew three times around the pitch in a celebratory kind of way. Soraya looked back down at the defeated Slytherin team and paid more attention to the captain than Malfoy. The captain Soraya thought looked ready to kill as he and his team stormed off the pitch and back to the changing rooms.
Days afterwards the Griffindors were still celebrating this victory day and night. McGonagall was even kind enough to remind Snape about it a few days later. A first year Griffindor by the name of David Clapton told everyone on the Griffindor table for breakfast who would listen.
"She went up to Snape and said. 'Good game better luck next time.' The look on his face was timeless!" David then immediately became quiet when Snape past the Griffindor table after he left the teachers table quietly glaring at them when he past. Soraya rolled her eyes and shook her head when he left the great hall.
Then the celebrations ceased almost instantly as the end of year exams were only a few weeks away. So everyone tried to concentrate as the sun was so inciting. Only Soraya could relax because of her photographic memory and so she went out in to the grounds. She had found another spot by the lake as she didn't want to run in to Snape. He was in a dreadful mood at Slytherin's defeat which may have been a long time ago now but it was still fresh in his mind by the looks of things. As a result he was being spiteful more than usual.
She sat on a moss covered rock near the lake and watched the water lap at its side. Soraya just sat there staring at the water for a moment and laid on the comfy rock. Then a thought hit her like a bolt of thunder. 'How am I going to do six years of exams in one week?' But then relaxed as she knew that Dumbledore must have already thought of this and just continued to stare at the water lost in her constant thoughts which seemed to bug her a lot these days.
A week before the exams started she was in the library with her friends. She was trying to find out more about herself and what she was meant to do. But everyday came out empty handed of the knowledge that could have helped her when the time came.
"I give up!" Ron said in a very annoyed way as he tried to revise the theory behind Defence Against The Dark Arts. Harry then did something very violent with a potions book which made Madam Pince come over and take away house points for treating the books badly.
Then at long last the exam timetables came and Soraya was right about Dumbledore fixing it for her. Ron handed her the exam timetable and looked between being jealous and thankful he wasn't in the same boat as Soraya.
"You only have one week of school exams!"
"Yes but remember she has to do six years of work in each exam."
"She has a photographic memory Hermione! Or do we have to remind you of all people that? Ok...you have a subject a day for five days. The first four look Ok but I think you should take a look at the last subject." Soraya took it and whatever happiness there was inside of her immediately disappeared and she felt like crying in dismay. Then she let Harry and Hermione take a look at it as they looked curiously at their sickened friends.
"Yuk! A whole day with Snape?"
"Eugh I know tell me about it. If I can get through the whole day without talking to him it will be a bloody miracle!"
"Soraya he is your uncle you know. So maybe if you did talk to him-" Ron interrupted and almost yelled at Hermione for being so stupid.
"Hermione! This is Snape we are talking about! Not a cuddly bunny!" Soraya and Harry laughed and she felt happy once again. Hermione ignored Ron's outburst and went back to revision quietly.
Then the day of the first exam finally came and panic gripped the students like a vice. They were testing each other every chance they got and moaned about how they were going to fail. Soraya couldn't have thought of better timing as she was getting really bored. Soraya wished the others good luck and proceeded to her first exam which was Transfiguration. Soraya thought it to be a very interesting sort of magic transforming one thing in to another. From the beginning of the day until lunch she transfigured all sorts of things perfectly. Soraya sighed in dismay when McGonagall went out of the room to find more objects for Soraya to transfigure. Soraya wished that she didn't do it all at once as it didn't seem to be a challenge at all. But the amount of objects she was changing kept her busy and her mind active. Then at last the lunch bell rang and McGonagall breathed a sigh of relief. She was exhausted trying to find things for Soraya to use in her exam.
"Top marks. Now come back after lunch for your written part of the exam." So at Lunch she was happy and chatted to her friends all about her day.
"It's all right for some! Care of magical creatures was a nightmare wasn't it Harry?"
"Yes Ron! Hagrid tried to make us tame a Hippogriff Soraya."
"You should have seen the look on Malfoy's face as he ran for the hills!" Ron laughed for a few minutes at the memory of it. When he regained his composure he did a very good impression of Hagrid so that Soraya would get a good idea of what happened. He raised his voice when Malfoy entered the room.
"Guess you failed then Malfoy!" Nearly the whole great hall erupted with laughter as Malfoy looked at Ron. The other Slytherins glared at the Griffindors who were in fits of laughter. Soraya left with a smile on her face and went back to McGonagall's classroom.
She found the written part very easy and just sat there writing everything she knew about transfiguration. In fact she found all of the exams very easy and had no problems with them at all. She felt very annoyed about this but didn't show it and continued without a word. She buried her face in her hands at the end of practical charms when she joined up with her friends at lunch. She told them about what happened with her face turning red.
"It was so embarrassing to have Flitwick fall off his cushion every time I performed a charm and got it right."
Defence against the dark arts was more written than practical.
"The creatures I wanted to use were considered too dangerous for the practical. So these are only a fraction I'm afraid." Soraya grinned and defended herself well. The Boggart in the trunk was a bit too much for professor Dye when he saw Voldermort coming out of it. He almost fainted at the site if him rising slowly out of the trunk like a vampire with a snake like face. But Soraya quickly yelled 'RIDDICKULUS!' and the Boggart disappeared in a puff of smoke. She didn't really have a fear of anyone or anything but herself. But she was just a baby when she first saw you-know- who and to her he looked quite frightening. When Dye could breathe again he gave her full marks and proclaimed the exam to be over.
Soraya joined up with her friends again and talked about the exam.
"You got to do a Boggart? What came out?"
"Um...I don't know if I should say Ron."
"Oh come on it can't have been that bad can it?"
"Well the only thing I am afraid of is myself and my powers. But Boggart's can't portray the person it's trying to scare their own image. So it took on the form of Voldermort instead Ron." Ron winced and Hermione looked horrified, Harry on the other hand just looked at her and then just carried on eating. Soraya looked at Harry and then lowered her eyes to her food as well. Their friends on the other hand had lost their appetites at the mention of Voldermort. Hermione just kept on eating as well because she didn't seem to fear Voldermort's name at all anymore. Soraya heard Hermione say his name after lunch when they left the great hall. Soraya had to hold down a laugh. She saw a lot of people jump and stare at Hermione in disbelief at mentioning you-know-who's name. But Hermione just rolled her eyes and didn't stop talking to her friends until they had to part ways again.
The next day Soraya had history of magic and it turned out to be one, long, boring written exam for the entire day. Soraya now wondered if she could drop this subject and take on something else next year as she answered question after boring question on the exam.
Then finally the last day came and Soraya was dreading this more than anything else at the moment. She went down to the great hall for breakfast feeling very sick at the prospect of being alone for a whole day with Snape.
"Augh! This is going to be hell!" She had her face in her hands and felt very ill.
"This has to be the worst day of my life!"
"I'm afraid this time I have no silver lining."
"That's Ok Hermione, who does?"
"Well at least he's your last one." Soraya gave Dean a very odd look. "Ok look just think about this...the sooner you go in the sooner you come out."
"That's great Dean thanks for the advice."
"I have my moments."
She hated saying goodbye to her friends when she went off for her last exam with a heavy heart. Not even Ron could make her heart any lighter by wishing her survival again and calling Snape a bat. Her mind was all over the place trying not to picture what Snape had in store for her. She tried desperately not to think about it until she stopped outside Snape's classroom door. She entered to see Snape sitting calmly at his desk writing on a piece of parchment. He didn't look up until she closed the door quietly behind her.
"On the table is a list of potions I want you to make before lunch."
The table he was pointing to was right in front of him. On it was a cauldron and it held a piece of parchment with a list of potions.
She took one look at it and widened her eyes in horror before smiling at the simplicity of it all. 'You want me to make six potions in four hours Snape? Ok, well let's see now...' She rose to the challenge at once and noticed that Snape sometimes looked at her. But she didn't stop for a staring match as she liked this challenge and gladly accepted it. She found her self doing two potions at once; whilst one bubbled in the cauldron she prepared the ingredients for the next one. There was even five minutes left of the exam and she just sat quietly labelling her potions carefully. She just left them on her desk as Snape instructed.
When she left she felt alive and didn't look back to see the look on Snape's face. But then thoughts ran through her head again that troubled her. 'Was he trying to fail me or give me a challenge?...Nah Snape is a total git towards Griffindors and I'm not going to change that just because I am his niece...or...no don't think it that's just totally gut wrenching!' She forgot about what she was thinking when she saw her friends at the great hall for lunch. When she told them what Snape got her to do they looked disgusted.
"He wanted you to do what? That's outrageous! Even in our OWLs we only did one."
"Don't worry about it Ron, I made that man think twice before trying to make a fool out of me."
"Way to go." Dean said with a smile on his face and a glint of malice in his eyes.
The written test was no harder than the potions. She sat there just like before in the history of magic exam answering one boring question after another on the parchment. Then left with a joyous heart when it was all over. She punched the air when she left Snape's classroom for the last time until September which was ages away.
On Saturday at first she helped her friends out with revision. Until they told her to leave and enjoy the rest of summer in school while it lasted. Hermione even threatened to use a banishing charm on her which would end up throwing Soraya out of the portrait and in to the corridor. So she spent all day out in the grounds and felt more relaxed than she ever had been in a long time. she remembered what that was like with the Hung's when she was ten before they died. After dinner it started to grow dark but Soraya went back out there to make the most of it until she had to go back in.
So she went to the edge of the dark forest and stopped as she heard a noise behind her. It was a rushing of air that sounded like a broomstick, it was coming closer to her and fast. 'Who on earth can possibly be flying a broomstick on the grounds in the middle of exams at this time of night?' She turned round as the noise of the broom was getting louder. As she did she saw a man dressed in black coming towards her. His head was hidden in a huge black hood and he had a white mask on underneath it. 'What the hell's a Death Eater doing here?' He dived at her and she dodged just in the nick of time. She found her legs again and ran along the edge of the dark forest back towards the castle. 'Harry told me Voldermort and his followers wouldn't dare attack Hogwarts because of Dumbledore. Well he's still here unless he took an early vacation. What the hell is going-'
She didn't get to finish her thought as she ran around the corner of the forest. Soraya was going at such a speed that she didn't look where she was going and three seconds later she regretted not doing so as she slammed in to Snape. They both fell to the ground with a thud and Soraya scrambled to her feet first. But her mouth wasn't as quick as Snape's to open to tell him about the Death Eater. He smiled evilly and spoke in one of the most silkiest and dangerous voice she had ever heard.
"Assaulting a teacher? Now let's see that will be seventy points from..." He didn't get to finish his sentence and stopped when she looked up. He too heard the noise of the broomstick behind him and turned round. Any colour that had ever been in Snape's face drained form it completely.
The Death Eater pointed his wand at Snape and then raised it over his hooded head.
"Avada Ked-" But before the Death Eater could finish his curse Soraya pointed her wand at him and quickly yelled.
"STUPEFY!"
A light shot instantly at the Death Eater who was falling unconscious to the ground whilst still on his broom stick. There was a loud snap to where the broom had broken from the impact. Snape picked up the Death Eaters wand as it landed by his feet and smiled maliciously at him.. Then he raised an eye brow at Soraya as she crossed her arms and glared at the death eater. She snapped out of it when Snape spoke again and Soraya swore she could hear a note of slight terror in his voice.
"We have to see Dumbledore now!"
They ran to the castle and stopped as two more Death Eaters flew towards them. Before they could do anything the smaller of the two Death Eaters had paralysed Snape. Then Soraya was grabbed by a huge Death Eater as she tried to dodge once more. At the same time he made her drop her wand and held her tightly to him as they took off towards the castle.
*** I like this very much and think I might do more stuff like this.
