The foamy sea rolled and swirled onward-just as it had always done. There
was no new direction to the wind, and no new vision on the horizon. Yet,
somehow, things felt different to Jack today. For some reason his heart was
beating a bit faster, and his spirits felt a little lighter.
"Probably left over from last night's rum." He thought to himself. He dismissed the feeling and kept steering ahead, scanning the bright line where the sky met the water, humming merrily to himself.
It had been scarcely a week that he had his precious Black Pearl back. Jack was one for living adventures, and honestly could never predict what was to come next. Just a week ago he was on the mount with a noose about his neck, and a treasure was found before that.
He had met a good man then-the son of one of his old comrades, in fact. Jack thought for an instant about Will....probably engaged to that blasted shrew Elizabeth by now. He was still bitter with her because of a certain incident pertaining to his precious rum.
While he thought his gaze never faltered, and his commanding grip never loosened on the wheel. The ship was under his power, and he stood there, a tanned and dirty man, as if he were the king of the entire ocean.
Off to the right, in the distance, a narrow outline of land was forming. It was becoming sharper and greener with every moment they traveled. They hadn't stopped since they left Port Royal and would likely need supplies sometime soon. Whatever place that happened to be would be as good a place as any to stop.
So Jack gave the necessary orders, and they anchored the Pearl around on hidden edge of a harbor cliff. They were to wait there until nightfall....
