Chapter Four

Dillon Quartermaine and Georgie Jones strolled into the park, their arms entwined, sharing secret smiles. They gabbed excitedly, tucked into each other as if no one else in the world existed. Georgie hugged him a little closer, grateful she was finally able to do that again. Then her gaze widened as it panned out over the normally quiet park. She tugged on his sleeve insistently.

"Um, Dillon, do you notice anything strange? Here in the park?"

"Like what?" he grinned, not even bothering to look. His Georgie was the queen of worriers. "I'm sure there's nothing strange. You're just being paranoid."

"Dillon!" she hissed in a whisper. "Look around…everyone is in the park. And I mean everyone."

Dillon jumped as soon as his head snapped up. He hid his confused laugh behind a fist and searched over the oddly expansive crowd. He had never seen more than three or four people in the park and tonight it was packed. Everyone from mobsters to Kelly's waitresses were loitering around with no apparent reason. He whispered laughingly,

"It's like everyone's waiting around to do a big musical number. You know how you always see the bystanders join the main singers. As if they were just standing on a sidewalk, waiting for someone to burst into song."

"Like Moulin Rouge?" Georgie laughed back, naming their favorite musical. Dillon threw out his arms and recited.

Dillon: Love is a many-splendored thing- Love lifts us up where we belong- All you need is love

Dillon: All you need is love

Overhearing, Faith sneeringly said back: A girl has got to eat

Dillon: All you need is love

Faith: She'll end up on the streets

Dillon and Georgie stared into each other's eyes and sang together: All you need is love

Faith: Love is just a game

Justus Ward appeared over her shoulder: I was made for loving you baby- you were made for loving me

Faith snorted her disgust: The only way of loving me baby is to pay a lovely fee

Justus: Just one night- give me just one night

Faith: There's no way 'cause you can't pay

Mike Corbin nodded his agreement as he took Bobbie Spencer's hand: In the name of love- one night in the name of love

Bobbie laughed: You crazy fool, I won't give into you

Jason Morgan, standing off to the side, his eyes trained in one specific woman, sang sadly: Don't leave me this way- I can't survive without your sweet love- Oh baby, don't leave me this way

Courtney Morgan sighed: You'd think that people would have had enough of silly love songs

Jax grinned and shook his blond head at her: I look around me and I see it isn't so- oh no

Courtney: Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs

Jax: Well what's wrong with that? I'd like to know 'cause here I go again!

Ned Ashton twirled his daughter high up in the air- much to the dismay of her mother: Love lifts us up where we belong- where eagles fly on a mountain high

Alexis Davis grabbed his arm disapprovingly and argued: Love makes us out like we are fools- throw our lives away for one happy day

Luke Spencer wrapped his arms around the redhead beside him and declared: We could be heroes! Just for one day

Skye tried to break away: You- You will be mean and I- I'll drink all the time

Luke: We should be lovers!

Skye: We can't do that

Luke: We should be lovers and that's a fact

Elizabeth Lansing took her husband's hand and sang, her pretty face wrinkled in worry: Though nothing will keep us together

Ric gazed at her attentively: We could still time just for one day

Luke continued: We could be heroes forever and ever, we could be heroes forever and ever, we could be heroes…

Dillon: Just because I will always love you…

Georgie: Just because I can't help loving you…

Both: How wonderful life is now you're in the world…

Then oddly enough, just as in a musical, the crowd began to disperse. Everyone began to go their opposite ways as if nothing had happened but there was no erasing some of the smiles and blushes that had begun.

Dr. Monica Quartermaine groaned as she eased into a chair in the hospital lobby, rubbing the aching muscles of her back. She had once again put in countless hours and sometimes she wondered if she remembered what home looked like at all. She had just closed her weary eyes when the effervescent worker from the gift shop nudged her shoulder. The girl, bearing the nametag of "Heidi", seemed to bounce as she spoke.

"Sorry to bother you, Dr. Quartermaine but these flowers were sent to you. I was told to give them to you as soon as possible."

Monica smiled tentatively, gently taking the spring bouquet of wildflowers and inhaling their scent dreamily.

"How nice," she murmured. "Who could have thought of such a thing so late at night? Must be a grateful patient or something."

Heidi beamed and pointed across the lobby towards a group of bustling, white coated men. She whispered conspiratorially,

"I think you have an admirer over there."

As the girl flounced away, Monica wonderingly opened the small card tucked amongst the daisies and black-eyed susans. It read: Monica, hope you haven't forgotten that today is one of our many anniversaries. I know I haven't. I love you. Alan. Monica looked up and caught the crystal blue gaze of her husband's across the way. She mouthed 'I love you' back across the hallway and sighed to herself.

"How did I manage to get so lucky?"

Holding the bouquet to her chest, she sang.

Monica: Perhaps I had a wicked childhood

Perhaps I had a miserable youth

But somewhere in my wicked miserable past

I must have had a moment of truth

For here you are

Standing there

Loving me

Whether or not you should

So somewhere in my youth

Or childhood

I must have done something good

Alan, crossing the hall and leaving a few interrupted doctors in his wake, stopped short in front of her. He slowly took her hand and caressed it with his thumb, singing back.

Alan: Nothing comes from nothing

Nothing ever could

So somewhere in my youth or childhood

I must have done something good

Monica: Here you are standing here- Loving me- Whether or not you should

Alan: So somewhere in my youth or childhood - I must have done something good

Together: Nothing comes from nothing

Nothing ever could

So somewhere in my youth or childhood

I must have done something good

Their tender gaze was broken by the harsh voice over the loud speaker, paging both of them to different floors. They went without another word but there was no mistaking the secret smile they shared.

Sam McCall stuffed her fists deep into the depths of her leather coat as she waited at the docks, cautiously peering around for Sonny's guards every five seconds. She impatiently blew a raven lock from her face and wondered what the hell she was doing. The last time she had attempted to speak with Carly; it had blown up in her face. It was obvious the woman despised her. Why had she called and asked to see her? Every suspicious gear was working double-time in Sam's brain. Crazy thoughts flew through her head- like perhaps Carly had hired a goon to get Sam out of the way…or maybe she would just do the deed herself.

When Carly Corinthos appeared down the steps, looking seemingly harmless, Sam let out half a breath. The other half she kept locked up in her chest until she found out what the secret meeting was about.

"Sam," Carly spoke first, her voice frigid and her eyes like ice shards. "Thank you for being woman enough to come."

The sarcasm lacing through her, Sam asked wearily,

"Carly, what's this about?"

Carly sang back daringly: I know he's leaving me for you

Sam: Who said that? Who told you?

Carly: Then it's true- what is he telling you? Could it be the same things that he told me?

Sam: He told me that he loved me

Carly: I heard that

Sam: He told me I was…

Carly finished for her: …Beautiful.

Sam: How did you know- how did you know?

Carly: 'Cause I've played that scene before - This is a retake of my life, I was his star for many nights- Now the roles have changed and you're the leading lady in his life- Lights, camera, now you're on, just remember you've been warned- Enjoy it now 'cause it won't last- Same script different cast

Sam: What you're saying could be true…but how can I take advice from you?

Carly: I'm not hating but I wish the one before me would have warned me too babe

Sam: Don't say no more…la la la la la la la

Carly: Uncover your ears, girl

Sam: I'm not listening…la la la la la la la

Carly: But I know that you hear me and maybe my reasons are wrong- But I know that you believe me…This is a retake of my life, I was his star for many nights- Now the roles have changed and you're the leading lady in his life- Lights, camera, now you're on, just remember you've been warned- Enjoy it now 'cause it won't last- Same script different cast

Sam: It's your fault you didn't love him enough

Carly: That's the problem I loved him too much and when you love him, he becomes unattracted to you

Sam: Oh no, he's changed and I'll prove you wrong

Carly: No you won't

Sam: So go away- leave us the hell alone! He loves me!

Carly: He'll hurt you!

Sam: He'll stay with me!

Carly: He'll leave you!

Both glare and join their voices together: For sure, for sure!

Sam: This is a retake of my life- You were his star for many nights but now the roles have changed and I'm the leading lady in his life- Lights, camera, now you're on, just remember you've been warned- Enjoy it now 'cause this will last- I'm the future and you're his past!

Carly: Enjoy it now 'cause…

Sam: This will last

Both: Same script different cast

Her face a mask of fire, Carly spat before she stalked off,

"You're a fool, McCall."

Sam sent a steely look back and hissed,

"Who's the bigger fool? Me for staying or you for leaving in the first place?"
