A/N - I wasn't thinking, so this ch. will have to have taken place pre-Korea. I know that doesn't make sense w/ the Marshall scenario in the first ch. but just bear w/ me.

"I'm not sure." Sydney turned her face so Vaughn couldn't see her cry. He had the puppy-dog look on his face. God, why did he have to be so damn hot? "I'm not sure I remember how to." There was a pause as Syd collected her thoughts. "It's been over two years since we were last together . . . physically and as a couple. I can imagine the feel of your lips and the touch of your hand, but I'm never really sure if what I remember is the truth or . . . my mind playing tricks on me."
Sydney turned back to Vaughn. He was staring at her so intensely it made her nervous. She moistened her lips and saw - no; she felt his gaze lower and follow her tongue as it traced a path along her pale lipstick, strawberry flavored, of course. He lowered his mouth onto hers slowly, gently. Syd's breath quickened, and he deepened the kiss. She was lost in a vortex of emotions and feelings. She felt so . . . alive. Every nerve in her body tingled, ached for the feeling of him next to her.
Vaughn pulled away, and Syd's eyes slowly flickered open. Their eyes spoke volumes. Each echoed the other in the deep passion that was present there. They both wanted each other, but even more important, they needed each other. They needed each other to save themselves from the lonely monotony of life.
"Now you know."
"What?" Sydney tried to fight past her daze and figure out what Vaughn was talking about.
"Now you know if it's your imagination or . . . your memories."
"I'm afraid it was my imagination." Vaughn looked crestfallen for a second, then Syd looked up from under her eyelashes and continued, "*That* was way better than anything I imagined."
Vaughn broke out into a huge smile. " 'Bout time you realized that I'm better than anything else."
"Don't get cocky, Mister, or I'll have to practice my . . . Judo on you. You'd be surprised at the things you can do *with* a black belt."
"Ooo. I think I'm going to like this. Does that mean I'm forgiven?"
"After we go through the appropriate . . . punishment."
"Syd, may I remind you that *I* am not the one tied to a bed right now."
"But you're not doing . . . anything to . . . remedy the situation."
"Bob may be watching."
"Then let's give him a show." Sydney reached her hands up as far as the invisible links would allow her to, and she pulled Vaughn onto the bed. "Much better."
"We really shouldn't."
"There are a lot of things we shouldn't do. Would life be any fun if we followed the rules?" After a second break Sydney continued, "After all, we broke every single rule in the book on agent/handler protocol."
Vaughn smiled at the bittersweet memories. "Not that it helped. We still had to defeat SD-6 before we could be together."
"And we worked all the harder to defeat them. Just think, Vaughn, what if we hadn't have had each other? We'd still be trying to take down SD-6. Without you . . . without hope. . . without a reason bigger than saving the world . . . I would never have succeeded on my own. Vaughn, look at me. I mean it. I love you. I've never stopped loving you. I didn't want to before SD-6 was gone." Sydney looked at Vaughn and grinned, "You were a distraction." Then she continued in a serious tone, "I didn't want to when I was gone, and you were with Lauren. I didn't want to when I got back, but I love you."
"I love you too, Syd." Vaughn took a deep breath, "Do you want to love me now?"
Sydney grabbed his neck and pulled him into another breath-taking kiss. "What do you think?" Syd asked with a slight smile.
"I think that if you keep kissing me like that, I'm going to be *very* uncomfortable."
Sydney's gaze dropped down, and she giggled. "Well, maybe we can do something about that."
Vaughn weighed the options in his mind. It was a tough decision. "No, not in front of Bob. I've made a lot of mistakes, but I'm going to make it right. Our first time together . . . again, is going to be special. I'll make sure of it."
"I'm going to hold you to that." Sydney grinned flirtatiously, and gave him a quick peck on the cheek.
"Hey! I said stop it. You're going to . . . you know," but Vaughn was grinning as he spoke.
"Hmmm." She was now placing tiny kisses all over his face. Each one dropped like a carefully planted seed. Forehead. Eyebrow. Jaw. Nose. Neck. "No, I don't know, Mikey. Why don't you spell it out for me?" Vaughn just groaned and started to explore Sydney the way she was exploring him.
"HEY!" A rude voice interrupted from the ceiling. "You two lovebirds knock it off in there. I don't want my super-spies going all mushy. Like cereal. Don't you hate it when cereal gets mushy? Actually, it's quite good with some cereals, but not Fruit Loops. They have to have just the right amount of crunch to them, but that Toucan Sam, now he's something special. I'll bet if they had one of those celebrity death match things, Sam would totally beat Tony the Tiger." The voice trailed off for a moment. "Where was I? Oh, yeah. Stop the lovey-dovey-no-you-hang-up-first crap. Nobody wants to see that shit."
"Hi, Bob. Nice to hear from you, too," Syd yelled in reply. "I guess this means we better behave." She smiled seductively.
"For the time being." He grinned back. Then Vaughn turned onto his side, facing Sydney. "Syd, do you remember that time we got to your apartment late?"
"Hmm? What happened?" She mumbled sleepily.
"We had gone to the bar, and we came back to your place. Francie and Will were out on a date." Vaughn paused, considering Syd's feelings about the death of Francie and the betrayal of Frallison.
"Go ahead. It's been a while. I'm dealing."
Vaughn took a relieved breath and continued. "We got to your place around four in the morning, and we were, well, pretty trashed."
"I think I remember this."
"We were almost to your bedroom when you thought you heard something. What was it?"
"A mouse. I thought there was a mouse." Sydney smiled at the memory. She could hardly imagine being scared by a mouse, but she had been drunk . . .
"Right. It was a mouse." Vaughn flashed his heart-breaker smile. "So we went to search for it. And you kept saying . . ."
"'Here little mousy, mousy', and I kept yelling at you because you were being so loud."
"We kept bumping into things and knocking stuff over."
"You would kiss me, every other second. Even though I told you we were on a mouse safari and had to be 'very very careful'"
"In that Elmer Fudd voice! Then the neighbors came over to see what the problem was."
"They thought that you were beating me."
Syd and Vaughn smiled at the memory.
"Those were the good days," Sydney finally said.
"We can have more."
"Mouse safaris?"
"No, good days," Vaughn replied chuckling.
Sydney caressed Vaughn's face with her hand. "There's nothing I'd like more."
