Seven Years.
It had been seven years since Winifred Foster last saw Jesse Tuck, seven years since she stared into the bright blue eyes belonging to the young man that stole her heart.
Winnie met Jesse when she was ten, him seventeen. He told her he'd come back and to drink the water when she also became seventeen. Winnie's birthday was a month ago and still no Jesse. She thought of him everyday since the fateful moment when she ventured into the woods and found him sitting by the everlasting spring. She had decided a long time ago that she was, in fact, going to drink the water- more than willing to spend eternity with Jesse. She waited until the first week of August and the opportune moment to alter her life forever and drink the water.
Winnie heard a prim voice from downstairs, "Winifred! I'm going into town. I should be back in about four hours; I'll get you a new dress- a late birthday present?" Winnie heard her mother leaving and sighed. She must go now, her father locked himself in his study and her mother was gone. The opportune moment. She hurried down the stairs, sliding down the banister for time. She quickly undid the iorn latch and ran into the wood.
