She sat starring longingly into the scarlet flames of the burning fire. Tears falling silently from her distressed storm blue eyes, as she sat there, in almost complete darkness. She ran her finger disgracefully on her arm, tracing out the thin lines of strawberry gashes that covered her body to completion.

The flames flickered, forming shadows that danced across the walls. She sat, drowning in her thoughts, secrets and lies as another figure entered the common room and listened mutedly to her hushed cries.

Her tears drained down to her palms as she carelessly placed her hands upon her shivering knees.  The figure slowly made its way up to her suffering body and placed an arm on her shoulder, forcing her to give in to the warmth of his touch.   She raised her head from her knees; her soulless eyes met the deep grey stare that faced her rosy cheeks and tormenting cries.

He smeared the salty tears across her face, trying to dry them with his bitter hand. He grabbed onto her shoulders and gently pulled her towards him.

"This is the truth then?" He questioned looking frightfully towards her arm, staring at the thin pink-ribboned lines that caressed her milky skin. She painfully nodded letting more tears flow uneasily from her eyes.

"What happened? Why did you do this?" he questioned his voice now harsh with fear.
"I never… Imagine a place that's so terrible that when you go into a dungeon you feel more welcome… imagine a place where nothing is ever good enough and no matter what you say or do, you are always the screw up…." She replied, slowly lifting her trembling head, her eyes glimmering in the fire, and her features serious as she starred back at his pale face. He quickly pulled her closer letting the world stop and allowing himself to melt with her shaking body.

They sat together for hours, her head on his shoulder crying as he tried to settle her down.  Eventually she dazed off into a dreamless sleep, leaving him sitting there, holding onto her motionless body, running over the dreadful things he had recently come to realize.

"We have more in common then you think." He whispered to her sleeping body, as he picked her up and started carrying her down the hall to her dorm room.
